    Bit dirty, bit small.

    rating15 Feb 2017

We (4 people) spent 6 nights in one of Le Grand Panorama II apartments. The apartment was designed for 6 people but my feelings are that 2 are absolute maximum. When we arrived the apartment was dirty (done photos and movies if Le Grand Panorama II wants to question my review). We reported it day after and the host informed us that we don't need to clean it "much" at the end of our stay (thanks, I guess). Unfortunately, they changed their mind at the end of our stay ... As for the apartment itself - it is small and far from being sound proof. What's is nice is that our kitchen (annex) was equipped with all essential stuff and we had a nice view on the mountains. Also, one of the slopes is pretty close (2-3) mins. Other important notes:- It's hard to find a place to park your car. There is an option to pay for a indoor parking (we paid 39 euros/week)- but your car has to be less than 2m height.- There is no WiFi in apartments. The WiFi available at the reception is not free - also the reception is only opened at certain hours.- Nearest shop is around 1km from the place. (maybe less)- In winter - remember to take snow chains with you (if you travel by car).

    DIY cleaning

    rating15 Jan 2017

Overall, a comfortable apartment and reasonable VFM.We were "upgraded" - from what I don't know, the apartment was big enough for 2, as we had booked, but would be a tight fit for more. You have to be queue to be issued your bedding/towels. You also have to do a deep clean, there is an extensive set of instructions given, at the end of your stay or be charged a substantial fee. This is subject to an inspection before check-out.Having paid a lot of money it's a bit off to have to spend several hours scrubbing - I went on a ski holiday, not a learn how to clean a hotel room holiday.By the way, you need to purchase the cleaning products, nearest shop is Carrefour who add a substantial premium to all prices compared to other Carrefours where the customers aren't "captive".It was comfortable, warm and convenient for ski lift/ski bus. However, I would not return - I expect to be treated as a guest, not an inconvenience.

    Good for the price

    rating26 Jul 2016

We stayed here as 3 people in a 6-bed apartment - it was perfectly sized for us, but I wouldn't recommend trying to fit more than 4 people. The bedrooms are tiny, but have plenty of storage space so are manageable.Reasonably clean on arrival (and we cleaned ourselves when leaving rather than pay the charge), but most of the furniture has seen better days though everything was perfectly functional. No kettle provided, but there was a filter coffee machine. The balcony has an amazing view out over the valley. The swimming pool was cold and it's building could do with refurbishing. The on-site restaurant was closed most of the time we were there - this was the very last week of the season so understandable, but reception thought it was supposed to be open and we turned up one evening only to find that we would have to walk into the town to find somewhere else.Despite these niggles, we were happy with our stay, as the price was so cheap for a ski-in-ski-out location (well, until the run past it was too slushy and patchy!)

    Good value

    rating12 May 2016

The hotel is easy to find at the top left hand corner of Valmeinier 1800.We went April 2016 and many runs were open but the snow was slushy. It is around a 50 meter walk to join either a small green run to the lift or the shuttle bus into the main area of town. If you have 9am ski lessons you will have to catch the bus into town as you wouldn't want to walk to town with ski boots. The green run is quite narrow in places and when we were there on an icy day some were giving up - the bottom part is steep and icy.The lifts are great and the resort is lovely with nice lifts, minimal queues and nice cafes up top. I noticed lots of safety holders on the lifts this year which was nice and the lift attendants seemed helpful and on the ball. We ate in town and had a pizza one night- this was easy to book and reasonable for it's location. The hotel room was functional. The beds were reasonable. The kitchen reasonably equipped. The resort was blissfully quiet at night. The apartment (we were in block B) had a strange noise and I couldn't decide if it was plumbing, air conditioning or from the bar nearby. It wasn't loud but annoying! The apartment was really dirty when we arrived and I literally had to clean the whole place. It is disappointing the people before were allowed to leave it like that. The cleaning materials provided weren't great - a decent mop would help people to clean properly. The ski locker was just about big enough for 3 of us, not idea how you'd manage for 4 of you! It was unheated so the boots were not pleasant to put on as they were still damp . If it was February I think we'd have taken them up to our apartment. There is no free wifi and the one you pay for is only in reception during their limited hours. (as far as I could ascertain). The location is great in easy reach of Modane by train.

Dirty but close to the slopes

    rating12 Mar 2016

Read the small print! As you may have gathered from the reviews in French, there is no housekeeping here, and you will be charged 59 euros per apartment for cleaning at the end of your stay.....or you have to do it yourself, which I found totally bizarre. I have travelled around many countries and never ever been required to clean. What's more it wasn't even that clean when we arrived, dust under the bed and in the corners of the rooms. The second bedroom in the 2 bed apartments isn't particularly private, being off the living room and separated by a sliding barn door! The resort itself is about an 8 minute walk and there is a green run that finishes about half way between which can shorten the journey home at the end of the day. I thought food around the resort was very good.
