  Great hotel in a perfect location

  The Yachtman is in a great location. We had two rooms ( two couples in our party), both had views over the marina with long windows and railings so we could open them and look out. The curtains were blackout ones which was perfect for a good nights sleep and with the windows shut overnight it was very quiet ( we used the air con). The room was extremely clean and well furnished. The bathroom was a good size and looked fairly recently decorated. Tea and coffee making facilities were good too. Towels w ere changed daily and we had robes and slippers. The women in our party used the pool a couple of times and it was a reasonable temperature and well maintained. We used the bar but didn’t eat in. The staff were friendly and efficient. We would book again if we visit La Rochelle.

  ?Our worst stay across an 11 city tour of France

  Our Experience at Yachtman Hotel (Room 340)We are currently on a five week tour across France, having stayed in 11 different cities and hotels. Our stay in room 340 at the Yachtman Hotel was the most disappointing experience of the trip, largely due to management’s indifference to basic safety, hygiene, and service standards.Despite reporting significant defects within an hour of checking in, not a single issue was resolved across our entire three day stay: * Room Security Hazard: The bedroom door mechanism is a serious security risk. When unlocked, the external handle remains active and allows entry from the corridor unless you actively know to lock it again from the outside. With no instructions or warning provided, we only discovered this flaw on our second day, meaning our door was effectively left accessible to anyone in the corridor all night. * Unsecured Safe and Room Oversights: In addition to the door issue, the in room safe was not bolted down, rendering it completely pointless for securing valuables. The room also lacked bedside charging sockets and bathroom towel rails, while the mugs provided did not fit under the coffee machine spout. * Bathroom Safety and Management Inaction: The shower riser rail was pulling away from the wall with screws and wall plugs fully exposed. The manager only inspected the room on our second evening after a direct written complaint, yet carried out no repair and offered no solution, leaving a known hazard in place for three days. * Air Conditioning and Hygiene: Reported within an hour of arrival, the unit produced only room temperature air throughout the visit. The access panel was left hanging open, exposing filters heavily clogged with dust and grime, indicating a lack of basic routine maintenance. * Substandard Breakfast Quality and Hygiene: The hot buffet was consistently cold on both mornings we tried it, including the eggs, bacon, and beans, and the orange juice was noticeably watered down. No clean cloth or tongs were provided for holding loaves while slicing bread, resulting in guests handling shared loaves with bare hands. The quality was poor enough that we ate elsewhere on our final morning. Furthermore, the outdoor terrace was unusable for breakfast due to heavy cigarette smoke drifting across the dining tables. * Lift Maintenance: The lift was unreliable throughout our stay, broke down, made loud mechanical noises, and arrived at floors with a harsh, unsettling thud. * Front Desk Accountability: Over three days, three separate front desk staff were unable to communicate in English, requiring us to translate every routine exchange via phone. Staff were dismissive and offered no accountability for reported defects.For a hotel holding a 4 star rating, leaving documented safety hazards, security flaws, and maintenance issues unaddressed across a multi day stay is unacceptable. The total lack of follow up shows a disregard for basic hospitality standards.

  Super location, spacious family suite on top floor, great pool - small but never very busy. And the lovely Marcel to make you a nice drink before you head out for dinner.

  This hotel is ideally situated at the port in La Rochelle. Nice rooms, very friendly and welcoming staff. The breakfast room overlooking the pool is really nice and the options for breakfast were very good. Nearby secure parking is a bonus.

  What a wonderful hotel! The beds are huge and extremely comfortable. The view of the port is stunnimg and it's centrally located so that you're walking distance from the train station and few minutes walk from the from dozens of great nearby restaurants.The staff is friendly and always ready to help. In fact, my wife forgot her pair of favorite earrings in the room and the manager called us to let us know. He even mailed it to us.All in all, this will always be my first choice hotel in La Rochelle.
