    Great stay!

Excellent one night stopoverMeet by friendly reception staff on arrival..Unfortunately restaurant was closed on the Sundays, but receptionist booked taxi and reservation for us at a local restaurant. Rooms very basic, but bed very comfortable and shower excellent. Tea & coffee facilities in the room but no air-con. A well presented breakfast in the morning. Ample parking on site, impressive building and views. Thank-you for a pleasant stay.

    Not good!

    rating04 Jul 2025

By far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. On arrival we checked in, we were told that breakfast was from 0700 to 1000. We went to our room which had a bad smell. Being totally exhausted we went to sleep. It was a big room with a big bathroom. I didn’t use the bathroom during the night. In the morning I opened the bathroom door and was hit with a smell of impregnated urine. I was retching and had to stop myself being sick. I went to reception, complained and my room was changed without any apology or concern at all. We then went for breakfast at 0930. There was various cereal, cakes, bread and all the normal breakfast items. There was also something that looked like scrambled egg and something that resembled sausages wrapped in bacon. The presentation was appalling and not much left. I asked the ‘waiter’ If there was any fresh eggs available, his response was ‘why?’. Simply, there any much left in the container and that what was left was stuck to the sides. After about ten minutes he brought some out but in the same disgusting container. Next day was the same thing. On Monday, we went to BF at half nine only to be met by the look of astonishment by to the staff, BF had finished at 0900. Went to reception to ask why. Receptionist, amongst other things, was blunt, rude and not very helpful. She pulled an instruction leaflet out, started tapping it with her fingers and said, ‘it is black and white, it is very clear……. What do you want me to do?’ I told her that I would like a breakfast but then gave up, it was like talking to a brick wall. No air con made the rooms unbearable at times. Fans were available. Tried to get refreshments on Sunday night, The bar was shut. BF was not included, it was approx £14.00 each - definitely not worth it. The beds were comfy. Had to sleep with windows open therefore letting insects in. Needless to say we suffered insect bites. One good thing about this hotel was the checkout time was at 1100.I could go on but I’m sure you’ve got the jist. Would I stay there again? NO WAY!

    Beautiful Surroundings

This is an amazing hotel with impressive architecture and huge grounds which allow a stunning view over the surrounding area. Staff were welcoming and the room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was served in the large dining room and offered a wide selection of continental breakfast items. My only concern was that the outdoor tables were under my bedroom window and those who were drinking late into the evening could disturb someone who was not someone who went to bed late. With all the grounds, it might be possible to relocate this seating area. But this is only a small point.

    Pleasant Hotel but disappointing service

    rating07 May 2018

I brought a group of 17 priests to stay at the Domaine St Joseph for a Spirituality Experience. The hotel was to be our base whilst we visited Lyon, Cluny and Taize. The rooms were clean and modern and generally very acceptable although an armchair would be a helpful addition. The bar was small and the service was very poor. After the first evening they ran out of gin and never restocked. Generally there was no staff on the bar and you had to call and request service but often there was no response. We had dinner on most evenings and the food was generally disappointing. In the meal package they provided 3 bottles of wine for 17 people which seemed very stingy (basically one small glass each). Extra wine could be purchased but was expensive at €24 a bottle. There was very little communication from the staff. When we asked about a place to meet for discussion it was suggested that we meet in the bar. When the invoice was presented this included a charge for a meeting room on one evening but we were never advised as to the the whereabouts or availability of such a room. The hotel were very inflexible over a mistake that was made in a booking for lunch on the first full day. When we asked to cancel this they said this was not possible without a charge and offered a packed lunch. Although the Domaine St Joseph is a pleasant place to stay the level of service we received was very disappointing. The inflexibility and lack of communication from staff suggests that the hotel is more focussed on maximising income and less on customer service. Isabelle M, Directeur général at Domaine Lyon Saint Joseph, responded to this review Dear Sir,You have organized the stay of 17 priests at the estate and we thank you for it. We were delighted to welcome you. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.80 rooms have been renovated and only double rooms are equipped with an armchair. Our bar, overlooking the Monts du Lyonnais welcomes about twenty people. Our restaurant staff is also in charge of the bar service which is not always easy to manage according to schedules. However, they try to best meet the expectations of our customers. When booking, all our customers sign the general conditions of sale. Indeed, for all meals ordered, if the cancellation takes place less than 72 hours before the event, meals are charged. In your case, we offered you a picnic basket to replace your lunch to avoid paying another meal elsewhere. Our team tries to find solutions adapted to our customers. Our team respects our 4 essential values: the sense of service, the team spirit, the taste for progress and the awareness of our responsibilities. We hope to see you again at Domaine Lyon Saint Joseph.Best regardIsabelle MIQUETManager
