    A wonderful Lyon stay

    rating28 Mar 2026

We had travelled all the way from Canada & even our flight had a two hour delay so we were utterly exhausted when we arrived at 12 noon. The lovely Grace at reception raced around and found us a room that was immediately available. What a joy that was! Room 112 is a spacious room with an eclectic old world charm. Dark wood furniture, interesting art work, a desk, refrigerator & occasional table plus two bedside tables & two comfortable easy chairs. The bathroom has been recently renovated & was very comfortable. Very fluffy towels too. The room was impeccably clean and the linens were fresh and crisp. This is a very quiet room. We asked for a kettle and the very friendly staff brought us up the kettle, a range of teas and instant coffee and the kettle. We did have a delicious breakfast one morning. I also compliment this hotel in having a grab rail in the bath/ shower plus they gave us a safety shower mat. Too many accidents happen in showers to people of all ages. We loved our stay here between the two rivers. Many great restaurants nearby and there are two small supermarkets directly opposite.

You can walk around the city from here but a disappointing hotel for a 4 star rating

    rating08 Mar 2026

I was disappointed with this hotel, it certainly didn't have the ambiance of 4 stars. My husband and I stayed here for three nights at the end of February in a booking made by a cultural association that we were travelling with. Our room had a very old fashioned feel and the bed was comfortable but we had just one small pillow each. The shower room had a shower with a black plastic shower curtain, there was no shower cap supplied and the lighting was very poor for applying make-up. No magnifying mirror. The wardrobe was very difficult to share as the hanging space comprised a hanging rail that went from front to back rather than from side to side, so very difficult to access anything. I kept most of my clothes in my suitcase. The hotel offered a free drink at the bar if you chose not to have your room made up!The breakfasts were good and the staff efficient. The bar was also a pleasant place to sit. There are steps everywhere in the hotel, the ones immediately in front of the lift were particularly difficult to negotiate. The hotel is situated in a neighbourhood that offers fairly quick access to the interesting parts of Lyon but the area itself is not good for quality restaurants, the ones in the immediate vicinity offer very traditional Lyonnaise cooking (ie meat, potatoes and gravy), very little fish and not the modern Lyonnaise cooking that I was hoping to enjoy.

    Great location!

    rating27 Sept 2025

Excellent location, close by Fourvière, Vieux Lyon and Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière.Many international food restaurants and bouchons around. Place des Terreaux, nearby, has a great concentration of restaurants.Subway is 5 min away making your access to attractions very easy. The standard rooms are small but well designed. It has enough space to accommodate a couple’s clothes for a week. The staff is great, all of them very helpful! The only 2 things we didn’t like were, the breakfast - better reserve your room without it - and the swimming pool, which is a joke.

    BEAUTIFUL!

    rating10 Sept 2025

We stayed here for one night prior to joining a river cruise. The hotel is absolutely stunning! The receptionist was friendly and offered suggestions on things we could visit as it was a little early to check in. Calling the pool a pool doesn't do it justice. It was a peaceful spot to relax for a little bit before dinner.Only downside, the elevator is REALLY small. ha. But it was quite funny trying to get inside with us and our bags.

A deeply disappointing and unprofessional experience – avoid this hotel

    rating10 May 2025

At 9:00 AM, my wife and I left the hotel briefly to have breakfast at a nearby café. Shortly thereafter, we received a voicemail from the hotel receptionist accusing us of having left without paying our bill. Upon returning to the hotel, we sought clarification, only to have the accusation repeated to our faces. We reminded the receptionist that check-out was not for another two and a half hours and explained that we had simply gone out for breakfast. Her response was: “You didn’t tell me you were going for breakfast. How was I supposed to know?” When we asked whether she had made similar accusations against other guests that morning, she claimed that all other guests inform her of their whereabouts when leaving the premises—a highly implausible and, we believe, dishonest statement. When we requested her name, she refused to provide it. Only after repeated inquiries did she tell us her name was “Grace,” though we have strong reason to believe this may not be accurate. She also failed to respond when we asked whether she had seen us leave with luggage (we had not) or whether she had checked the room (she had not). Nor did she explain why she made no mention of this supposed concern when we dropped our key at the front desk, as required by the hotel. The following day, we sent a detailed email to the hotel director, Madame Estelle Baumann, explaining the situation. We received no reply. A week later, we sent a polite follow-up, stating that we were holding off on publishing a public review in case she wished to respond. To date, we have received no acknowledgment. Given this continued silence, we feel a responsibility to inform other travelers. In terms of the general quality of the hotel, we can only echo other critical reviews. This establishment does not meet the standards of a four-star hotel. The rooms are small, stuffy, and lacking many of the amenities one would reasonably expect. For example, there was no functioning air conditioning—despite warm temperatures during our stay in late April in southern France. The reception informed us that AC would not be available until summer, a claim contradicted by other guest reviews. It appears the hotel simply removes the remote controls until they see fit to return them.Overall, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had in over 200 stays across Europe. Never before have we been falsely accused of attempting to leave without paying, simply for stepping out for breakfast before check-out.For travelers visiting Lyon, we strongly recommend alternatives. Hotel Silky offers excellent three-star accommodations with courteous, professional staff. Hotel des Célestins also provides good value and a much more pleasant experience. If you are seeking four- or five-star options, there are many in the area—but we urge you to avoid Grand Hôtel des Terreaux. The four stars on their signage are entirely undeserved.
