A charming historic hotel with amazing staff

    rating07 Jul 2025

I stayed at Mercure Lyon Centre Château Perrache for a few nights and really enjoyed it. The hotel has a beautiful historic feel — especially the lobby, which was elegant and classy. It’s super close to the train station (just a few minutes walking), which made it really convenient for getting around. The room was very spacious, the bed was comfortable, and everything was clean. Yes, the decor is a bit old-fashioned, but it didn’t bother me — it actually added character. The best part of the stay was the amazing reception staff. A lovely woman and two very kind young men helped me so much — they guided me on tourist spots to visit, helped me get my train ticket to the airport, and were just always ready to assist. Their kindness truly made me feel welcome. While it’s not right in the center of the city, it’s very easy to reach the main attractions by train — I just took two quick trains and was in the heart of Lyon. I’d definitely stay here again! The hotel was fine...

    rating04 May 2025

Great location if you need to be near the Perrache station. If not, I would 100% pick another hotel closer to Bellecoeur which is more central to shopping, Vieux Lyon etc. In any case the hotel was about a 10 min walk from some restaurants so it wasn't too bad (Brasserie Georges is nearby and great and very popular). The lobby and dining room are great examples of period architecture and seem well maintained. I cannot say the same for the hotel hallways or rooms. Walls are marked, paint is peeling on door trims in particular and over all attention to the upkeep of the hotel is very much needed. This could be a sparkling example of an historical building if only it were maintained. Pictures included of the ancient doors leading to the dirty room balcony.I was in a single room and only had soap/body wash in my room (it was Nuxe which I love and found ironic that such nice soap was in this hotel).. My cousin was in a privilege room so she was "privileged" to have conditioner and body lotion. I thought it was cheap that my room didn't have these so-called luxuries. Also it was about 80+ degrees when were visiting but because it wasn't "summer" the AC did not work. Ahh, the frugal French...Breakfast buffet was decent--lots of choice so that was good. Uber drivers always drop you off on Rambaud (which I consider the back entrance to the hotel since the building is barely marked with the hotel name). This necessitates an elevator to the lobby. Of course when I was there this elevator was broken so I had to carry my heavy bags up 2 flights of stairs. Tell your Uber/taxi to drop you off at the Perrache station car rental section (photo included) and that will take you to the lobby level of the hotel so no stairs need to be navigated.Would I recommend? I guess if you need to be near the station for some strong reason it's fine or if it's all you can afford. It's not a bad hotel by any means, it could be really great if the entire place were at minimum painted, furnishings updated/upgraded.Staff were helpful when I had issues w/my hair dryer or needed assistance with something.
