    The host started by stating everything not allowed; no eating in your room, no picnic in the garden. Upon presentation of our room, further advised our kids must not run around so that residents below would not be disturbed. The place claims to have a restaurant, which rather is a meal service offered under pretty tight conditions. The host communicated those by email less than three hours before our arrival. At least for myself I would not check my email while driving; a call would have been more appropriate. With hindsight, given the rather cold reception, we were actually quite happy we did not reserve. When inquiring about a place where we would actually be entitled to enjoy the leftovers from our trip, the hostess’ answer was uncourteous, bordering outright rude. The host did not even mention to us the possibility of having breakfast, however I did overhear him briefing other guests about the breakfast hours. Room rules (attached) offer a rather depressing but at the same time entertaining reading. Clients are not allowed to apply body lotions before going to bed and you are threatened with a 10 EUR surcharge if you dare unplug any appliances, etc. The two minuscular pieces of complementary pastries our children were offered before we left the premises were appreciated but do not alter the rather negative impression of our stay. Perhaps the hosts would be better off closing the gates to their fancy castle and keep it to themselves?

    Wonderful Gem

    My stay on a short notice visit to the R&D for my company. The owners Farncis and Horia are most wonderful. Horia upon my arrival on Sunday with no notice whipped up a great dinner for me. The apartment I I had was spacious and with a full sized kitchen. All was superbly clean. All your needs for cooking and cleaning were present.Each day a reasonably priced half board with a three course meal. Horia and Francis are great chefs and cook local foods that are delicious.I recommend to visit, bring a bike or explore the wonderful are around. Many exciting Castles and Chateauxs in the area and the Rhone Valley is endless.

    We stayed here for a night on our way to Côte d’Azur and it was a great find. A little jewel in Vertrieu which we will definitely re visit. The owners were very welcoming and attentive. The breakfast was hearty and comprised of all home made produce which was very tasty. A bit off the beaten track about 40 k north east of Lyon this 17th century château is well worth the detour .We highly recommend a visit.

    A gorgeous spot on the banks of the Rhône river, a stunning 17th century home, very comfortable and peaceful in a beautiful setting. Lovely hosts in Francis and Horia who are passionate about the renovation and decoration of the villa. Excellent home cooked dinner in the dining room which is a lovely chance to meet fellow guests. Parking available on site. Lovely short walk into town of Vertrieu or along the banks of the river. Highly recommended.

    Worth a Detour

    The house and bedrooms have been meticulously restored to the highest standards with no expense spared. Our bedrooms were very comfortable and well appointed. The owners were generously hospitable and dinner was excellent comprising home cooked locally sourced fresh produce, served with local wines. Finally, the apero with the owners and other guests was most enjoyable. Altogether, “worth a detour”
