  Great hotel near the train station

  A great place to base from in Marseille as it is just across the street from the Marseille-St. Charles Train Station.A bit of advice : when exiting the train station , use the doors near Starbucks. When you exit, turn left to cross the busy street. There is a paved ramp to the sidewalk on the right of the crosswalk so you don’t have to drag your bags across steps. The Alex Hotel will be across the street to the left. An easy short walk.Our room at Alex Hotel was very comfortable and clean with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast offered every morning had hot and cold foods with a nice coffee machine.I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again as we took trains daily to outlying Arles, Aix and Avignon.

  Excellent location being near main railway station with metro links.

  A typical French 3* hotel in an excellent location adjacent to the main railway station in Marseille and with good Metro links to the main sites of this vibrant city. Quaint breakfast room and lounge. Continental breakfast buffet with a hot option. Staff were very friendly and helpful and prepared to go the extra mile to make your stay more enjoyable. Fitness room in basement. Our twin bedroom could have been larger and with more seating but it was clean, with two comfortable single beds and attached was a modernised bathroom with a good walk - in shower. It met all our needs.

  My second stay here, this time in the main hotel. This place is about as close as you can get to the train station, which is great if you are getting an early train. The check-in was a bit frosty = despite me arriving at 2:50pm my room wasn't available until 3:40pm...which is pretty sloppy. Time is money! My conclusion is, don't bet on good service here.There is, at least, free and fast Wi-Fi in the room even if it is a bit sparse. The room was tiny like a shoebox, the only redeeming feature was a small balcony facing the sun. The aircon seemed to work well.Personally I think you can do better for less money, such as the Meininger hotel just a short walk down the road.

  Ok, but let down by the essentials

  Stayed here for 6 nights in March 2025.Pros: practical location near the station, decent breakfast with choice of hot and cold food, including scrambled and boiled eggs. Well equipped and spacious room, very small but ok gym. Room seemed clean enough. There was a kettle in the room.Cons: we didn’t have hot water in the evening. We flagged this multiple times to the staff. They were very responsive in trying to address it each time but with limited success. We only had hot water on one of our six night stay. In addition, our room door did not lock properly unless you really pulled it shut due to the lock being broken. The cleaning staff left the door unlocked after cleaning a few times. We flagged this to the staff a few times, but for whatever reason the message did not get though. One of the staff working the breakfast buffet seemed to be clattering the plates and cups as noisily as possible, so maybe take earplugs to breakfast.Overall the hotel is ok, but it was let down by essentials such as lack of hot water and a lack of a securely locking door. À ce moment-là, nous vous avons offert un accès au spa en compensation pour la gêne occasionnée. Dès le troisième jour, nous avons pris des mesures correctives en mettant le ballon d'eau chaude en marche forcée. Le lendemain, notre équipe de maintenance a effectué une vérification complète de l'ensemble des installations de votre chambre pour s'assurer de leur bon fonctionnement. Après plusieurs vérifications, aucun problème persistant n’a été identifié, et plusieurs autres clients ont séjourné dans cette même chambre sans rencontrer de difficultés similaires.Concernant la porte, nous avons constaté un problème de fermeture. Après votre départ, nous avons pris les mesures nécessaires en dégondant la porte pour effectuer les réparations.
