  Warm welcome! I was very well received at the Greet Hotel thanks to Ericka a kind, attentive, and truly competent person. She takes the time to explain everything clearly and makes guests feel comfortable. This level of customer service is rare! The hotel is also well located, which is a great advantage.

  Good budget hotel in dodgy part of town

  This is a good quality budget hotel; good for its price relative to other hotels. Many have commented positively on its location and I booked it mainly based on those reviews and I was very disappointed. Apart from being close to the main station, I could not agree in any way that it’s in a good location! The main street - La Canebière - which the Greet is on the corner of, is a horrible street full of cheap take away shops (either chains or down at heel local variations) and lots of groups of men hanging around on the street. Most of the men are no doubt harmless and are just newly arrived immigrants with not much money and nowhere else to go, but it is not enjoyable as a woman walking past all these men and having to be “on guard” all the time. You can easily walk to the nicer parts of Marseille in 15 minutes or to the charming parts of Marseille in 30 minutes but the immediate area of the Greet is not pleasant. If you are a sole female traveller, I would definitely advise you to look for a different hotel elsewhere.

  Could have been a great budget stay except for how staff handled lack of AC

  Not a terrible place. Great location, nice quality breakfast, and rooms clean and comfortably furnished, if a bit small. Minimal in-room amenities, but great tvs. I'm generally a budget traveler and not picky, so this would have been a much better review had the weather been cooler. However it was during a heat wave when the promised AC was really a necessity. And there was none. First room literally had no air at all. After being told by one person that the technician would check it out, still no change after being out for a bit. New people at desk first said it was hot because of the sun, then said technician had come and couldn't fix it, then offered a fan, then finally offered a new room. New room had moving air but not cold air. Then dealing with the night person, I asked for a fan, which was provided after some argument. Finally got an okay night's sleep. Fortunately I live in a hot place and don't like AC much anyway and could sleep in a warmer room. Then looking at recent reviews, it was clear there had been no AC for weeks. So - a known issue, no mention or resolution of it, multiple stories depending on who you talked to, and unpleasant staff (who were quite cool and comfortable in a super chilled lobby). Thus what would have been a 4-star review for a technical problem handled well by staff is now a 2-star review because the staff did not handle it well at all. On the plus side, my friend who traveled with me said she saw a bunch of portable AC units getting brought in when she was checking out. So someone was finally dealing with the problem.

  Good hotel, super location and friendly staff.

  Stayed here when watching Wales at the rugby World Cup. Was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but found it absolutely great. Super location near the station and about a 15 minute walk from the old port. Room was clean and spacious, beds were very comfortable and we had a nice bathroom, with a wet area shower. Breakfast is simple, but fresh and adequate, only one surprise in France, no croissants. Loved the room it was served in and the random furniture, crockery and cutlery. Staff were really friendly and always helpful. It is a noisy area, but it’s Marseille, but with the window shut, you were not aware of it. I would definitely use again.

  The hotel was about a 10 minute, easy walk from the station. On arrival I thought I’d gone in the wrong entrance as the reception also doubles as a bar area but the staff were friendly and welcoming and I was soon checked in. I had booked a family room as this was all that was available although I was travelling on my own. There was a double bed and bunk beds with very little floor space left. There was also a small desk (but no chair) and a small hanging area with about 5 hangers and some shelves. The room would be very cramped if at full capacity with the only place to sit being the double bed. There was one useable socket (another wouldn’t take my adapter) and a double usb only outlet. The bathroom by contrast was quite large with a good shower over the bath. Both bathroom and bedroom had opening windows. The breakfast was continental style with cereals, cheese, meats and bread, pastries and crepes. Also freshly made orange juice which was delicious . Almond and oat milk was available. The hotel was centrally situated within walking distance of the main sights and just a couple of minutes walk from Noilles metro if you want to use that. Overall this is a budget hotel but is perfectly decent for a short stay.
