    We stayed at the hotel before it was renovated and liked it and this year in August returned.It is now even better!The staff are delightful,the rooms spotless and the restaurant first-class.The location is perfect near to the beach,Borely park,cafes ,a great boulangerie and good public transport.It is the ambience of the hotel that is so special.It is relaxing,joyful and welcoming.A real gem that we highly recommend.     Poor quality hotel and terrible customer service

    We stayed at the Villa M Marseille 4 nights and we complained 3 times at reception but to no avail – the staff seemed not to care, and there was no manager on site to deal with our issues. Following our stay, I emailed the reception and manager but no reply. This really adds insult to injury.Our stay felt like staying at “Fawlty towers”. Our room was sparingly furnished – no bedside lights, the sofa bed was completely wonky and not fit for purpose. Cushions were used as pillows with wrong size pillow cases. A picture frame above the bed fell onto the bed one night, thankfully we weren't sleeping otherwise one of use could have been seriously injured. The floor of the bedroom and terrace were dirty, there were stains on the walls, lamps, pieces of furniture and most of the sockets and switches were not levelled – pet peeve of mine!The bathroom must have been partially but poorly refurbished: broken shower head, stained bathtub, dirty shower seal, poorly installed air vent & shower rail. No soap, towel or bin in loo. Breakfast in the morning was comical with us chasing teaspoons, salt/pepper shakers or even coffee – fighting off seagulls from breakfast tables that hadn’t been cleared up by discouraged staff. The corridors of the hotel were littered with left-over food trays and empty alcohol bottles sometime left there for 48 hours. On the second evening we discovered that the hotel restaurant had been privatised for the night and so it was not available to serve hotel guests. The party went on till 1.30 am and keep us awake as our bedroom was just above. No apologies nor notification in advance of the event.On the evening we dined at the restaurant, the service was sloowww, and we found out from the neighbour table that the champagne was served in plastic flutes - a Wonderfull touch at 13 euros a glass. The food was decent enough.Finally, a little note on our morning routing: we had to deal with loud lounge type music coming from the restaurant starting automatically at 6.30 AM! So our nights were short.Having had a recent change of name (Villa Massalia to Villa M Marseille) and possibly of management, the budget was clearly all spent on rebranding and a pleasantly decorated communal and restaurant area. But it would have been equally important to see some decent investment in the rooms and in training/recruiting staff. I was told we would have a night refunded to make up for the inconveniences. At this stage, I am still waiting, 3 weeks later, and 3 ignored email. For some reason, they couldn’t refund my credit card on the spot and I had to send bank details. Never seen this poor of a service ever.Completely unacceptable.

    Not a 4 star hotel. Despite claiming that there was both aircon and gym, the aircon was not working (A fan is not aircon), and the fitness center was "not available". They conveniently forgot to mention any of this in the booking process. Otherwise: Good size rooms, decent breakfast, and reasonably clean. Pool area was crowded, as could be expected in July. Good location

    The standard double rooms are very comfortable and large. My room had a balcony, and I assume all the rooms had one, if not a terrace for the more expensive rooms. The swimming pool area is very nice and smokers can retreat separately, with extra chairs and in the shade.The food is in my opinion a bit expensive, but the quality is excellent...maybe 15 or 20% less on the bill would be more reasonable.The hotel is about 10 minutes walking distance from the beaches and beach side restaurants, but if you want a simple expresso, you can't have it at the counter...you must sit at a table (and pay more than what a coffee should cost).I strongly recommend the Equinoxe Brasserie if you want a very good meal, with good but limited choices on the menu (mangeznotez.com). Stay away from the pizza restaurants, as they are nothing like the original pizzerias...Air conditioning is good, but sometimes hard to control, especially if your room faces the sun all day long.
