Location

This hotel is located at the heart of Montpellier, only a stone's throw from the Place de la Comédie. Various shopping and entertainment facilities are to be found in the near vicinity of the hotel and the historic old town can easily be reached on foot. The closest beaches lie outside of the city about 10 km away and Montpellier airport is also just a short drive from the hotel (around 10 km away).

Facility

The hotel was built in 1898. 80 non-smoking rooms, including 4 single rooms, are located on 4 storeys and can be reached by lift. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a drinks machine. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops as well. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional facilities include a TV room. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a babysitting service, room service and a laundry service. Bicycles can be kept in the bicycle storage area. Rooms

Individually adjustable heating ensures that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. The rooms have a double bed and a sofa bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Guests will also find a tea/coffee station included among the standard features. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience.     My husband and I were on a cycling holiday from Avignon to Sete and I was very nervous about cycling through Montpellier to reach the hotel. It turned out to be easy in the end and the hotel was beautiful, filled with elegance and charm. Our room was comfortable, clean, and quiet and the breakfast was delicious. Having our bikes locked in a secure garage was an added bonus.     The hotel was awful on all fronts. We booked a large room, and yes the room was spacious but that was all I could say that as positive about it. There was no ramp to get the heavy luggage up the stairs, despite paying for a better room, there was no fridge, they only had paper cups that we had to keep reusing, they had run out of bedroom slippers and said they were simply not available, the breakfast was really ordinary with little worth eating, Hotel Oceania le Métropole, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Oceania Le Metropole Montpellier, responded to this review Dear guest,Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.     Recommend for a city break

    Great central location to Montpellier and 2 mins walk to the Comedy square. We drove into the city which was very challenging owing to the narrow streets and recent pedestrian measures put in place however hotel parking is available if you can work out the complex parking instructions! Room was great, modern & spacious for a city hotel. Only negative for us was the fact that we had planned to spend time by the pool chilling out but it was much smaller than it looked in the photos and probably only about 16 chairs/loungers so these were all occupied by the afternoon. However all in all, a lovely hotel with lots of French charm and I would definitely recommend for a city break.     Good location but some issues

    I booked a Junior Suite that (at the time) was described on the hotel website as having a large terrace but when arriving at the hotel we found there was no terrace in the Junior Suite. When I pointed this out the hotel agreed with me that it was an error - they have since updated the website room descriptions - but they could not move us to a room with terrace as all are fully booked. Rather disappointing as the only reason I chose this hotel at all was due to the room types being described as having a large terrace. I was offered a small discount as a goodwill gesture which was appreciated but it didn't alter the fact that I probably wouldn't have stayed here otherwise. Indeed, although the hotel has some nice original features, and is well located, we had a few issues, especially considering we are in one of the supposedly 'premium' room types (well over 300 euros a night on the dates we stayed). The hand-held shower did not work and could not be repaired due to it being a weekend (the rain shower did work). Although the room has a Nespresso machine, only flimsy paper cups are provided to drink out of - not a very luxury or sustainable approach - and they are not well enough insulated to hold when coffee is first poured in. The pool area and views from the rooms overlooking the pool area are rather grim - the hotel website shows some very cleverly taken photos which make it look rather nicer than it is. The room itself was OK with a large bathroom and separate lounge area which felt rather cluttered due to too much furniture for the space.
