  Hotel de la Mer is a Gem

  Lovely little hotel in the heart of Nice. Building is about 300 years old, so it lacks some of the comforts many of us are accustomed to, but it is definitely a good option. Only thing to keep in mind is that rooms are on first floor, which in France means 2nd floor. (No lift. ) Management is wonderful.

  A handy little place.

  We stayed one night here. It is difficult to see the hotel at first but it is tucked away above the official shop for Nice soccer team.There is no lift. There was just one flight of stairs so we didn't need it but you should bear it in mind if any of your party have mobility issues. The rooms were clean and comfortable, air conditioned and very nicely decorated. The bathroom in our room was very small and poky though so it was difficult to get into the shower. We didn't avail of the breakfast as we preferred to get our own. They very kindly stored our luggage while we did a few last minute things after we checked out. About the only demerit about the place was the extremely loud disagreement between two staff members who were cleaning out another room at about 8:30 in the morning. It kept going, on and off, until about 9:30 or a little after. I was awake anyway so it didn't bother me much, but one member of our party is very sensitive and such things tend to upset them. No apology was made, even though anyone within a few rooms would have heard what was going on. Generally, a good find and a good place to stay.

  Property takes payments from guests credit card without authority and when cancellation is specified as free

  I booked to stay here with Booking.com for 17 March to 20th I cancelled some months prior in good time and it was free cancellation as stated on my reservation. In April I discovered the hotel had taken my payment from my credit card saved on booking.com without authority. It has taken me quite some time to retrieve the funds and I still have not managed to. Booking.com has spent quite some time organising this and reassured me the property was incorrect to take payment they said they would refund me if the hotel did not respond in 5 days. 12 days later no response I called booking.com again and they said they will give the property a further 5 days' notice if the property does not respond booking.com said they would refund meI would not recommend booking here for the reason of poor principles of the property and lack of correct administration and disrespect to guests. I have contacted them over 5 times either myself and/or booking.com and they do not answer the phone or respond to any emails.

  Have to say this was one of the safest hotels i have felt safe in during a city break and had no worries at all.The hotel is actually on the first floor and after about 6pm you need a code to get into the main door to the building then to actually get into reception and the hotel floor you then need another code and all rooms have their own actual key so very safe.The hotel is located next to a easyjet baggage shop and Nice fc shop and is in the main square in Nice about a 2-5 minute walk form the promenade and beach and loads of bars and restaurants so fantastic location too.The wifi is good and we had room 6 which was not the largest i have been in but the decor was simple but nice and it was spotless and big enough for us and ideal for a city break and the bed was comfy.The view from the window was superb and the windows opened up to a view of the Massena square and the water fountain and statue which was lovely.There was a tv in the room and the bathroom was a okay size with walk in shower which was also very good and again was spotless also the room was cleaned everyday.Breakfast is served from 8.00am till 10.00am and is not self service you basically get given a basket with a selection of food in it ( bread/croissant/pana chocolate/yoghurt/jam/butter and cheese.You also get fresh orange tea and coffee and this is located in a small area next to the reception overlooking the main square and there is usually a tv on too.To get to the hotel from the airport you walk straight out of the terminal and get tram T2 which has a destination of Port Olympia and you can get your ticket from the machine at the station but do not forget to validate your ticket when you get on.Stay on the tram until Jeam Medecin tram stop in Nice centre which is under ground but when out of the station the hotel is about a 5-10 min walk.Staff were very helpful and there was usually always someone on reception and there was a contact number for emergencies.If in Nice i would certainly recommend this hotel as it is in a perfect location for all the transport links in the city and really enjoyed my stay here.

  Location, location, location!! This hotel is so well situated, close to beach, in the heart of old Nice, A longer walk or tram to the buses that take you along the coast, very close to restaurants and shops. This hotel offers it all, then add pleasant staff, clean rooms you couldn't ask for more. But, do not expect many amenities other than soap, and small packets of shampoo/body wash,hair dryer and towels, the room was small and pretty bare. My room had a very very firm mattress and pillow.The breakfast was fine, everyone gets their own basket of croissant, baguette , yogurt, cheese, butter, jam and coffee. Regardless of the small negatives, I will rebook when I return to Nice.
