Perfect location & stay in heart of Paris

    rating30 Sept 2024

We were here 2 people for 2 nights in a twin room, second floor (which is really the 3rd floor). There is a small elevator that tightly fits 2 people & their carry on bags. The elevator is not big enough for a wheelchair. We did not eat breakfast there which I believe is 15 euros per person as there are bakeries in any direction within 2-3 blocks. Very central for walking and lots of metro & RER lines nearby (see the website for list). Our room did have air conditioning, was clean (but yes old as expected). Beds were pushed together but separately made (the way to go). They were comfortable. Small shower stall (like a cruise ship). Room was made up daily and fresh towels if requested (by leaving your used ones on the floor). Shampoo, shower gel, soap, lotion, blow dryer, teapot provided in room. This is in the heart of an active neighborhood. You'll hear people on the street at night and trucks in the morning. If that isn't what you're looking for, don't stay here. But regardless, don't blame it on the hotel when there are environmental circumstances completely out of their control. Valérie V, Directeur général at Grand Hotel Dechampaigne, responded to this review thank you so much for this amazing feedback !We will close our hotel in 3 weeks for a entire renovation and we hope that we will have the pleasure to welcome you back in 2025main regards,

Cleanliness and the overall quality are quite questionable

    rating15 Sept 2024

The staff is nice and courteous. The overall appeal is dull. Tiny room and bathroom. There was a weird smell through the hotel. Lacks hygiene in a big way. Breakfast is sub par. Requires a lot of repairs and maintenance. A lot of the things/items/furniture were flimsy/broken. Valérie V, Directeur général at Grand Hotel Dechampaigne, responded to this review Hello,We are truly sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Your feedback is very important to us, and we take your comments seriously. Regarding the size of the rooms and bathrooms, we understand that it may not have been what you were looking for, and we will ensure better communication with our guests in the future. We've also noted your concerns about breakfast quality and the maintenance of the facilities, and we have already implemented a plan to address these issues promptly. We hope you'll give us another chance to provide you with a better experience during your next stay.Best regards,The Hotel Team

    Terrible Hotel Experience

    rating01 Jun 2024

We came on a business trip for a week, excited to stay in a quaint and conveniently located hotel, based on photos and reviews, and had a terrible experience. Steam from one of our rooms, from the shower, apparently triggered a fire alarm in the hall while my colleague was bathing. Only to have a front desk man come into her room and accuse her of smoking while she was just stepping out of the shower and unaware of the situation. He left as abruptly as he came in with no apology. Management was contacted and defended the action, citing it as “protocol”, then offered a dismissive apology and a room upgrade. We didn’t accept, since we weren't looking for any freebies. In addition, the rooms were very run down, we had pigeons with piles of dung running down the walls within the courtyard. You will also get charged for any bottles of water you need and breakfast is not included but rather 21€ for a croissant and coffee. This has been a terrible experience with an unprofessional and poor reaction from Management. I came last year and had the complete opposite experience at Hotel Mercure, a bit further away- they were kind, friendly, anticipatory of needs, and generous with their advice. We will be absolutely staying in a different hotel next year, and recommend that women take care when showering. Valérie V, Directeur général at Grand Hotel Dechampaigne, responded to this review We are sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. We offered our apologies, explained our safety procedures, and proposed an upgrade to a superior room, which you refused. Who is showing disdain? It is important to clarify certain points. The fire alarm was triggered by steam from your colleague's shower, an unfortunate incident. However, our staff followed the necessary protocols to ensure the safety of all occupants, in accordance with the requirements of French safety authorities. These procedures are reiterated to us annually during our mandatory training. We understand that the intervention might have seemed intrusive, but our receptionist acted in accordance with the procedures in place, with no personal or accusatory intent towards your colleague. We apologize for any misinterpretation and for any discomfort this may have caused.Safety is our top priority, and we never compromise on it to protect our guests and employees. However, your comments towards the end of your feedback border on defamation against our colleague, who was simply following procedures professionally. It is shocking to read such unfounded accusations. Please respect everyone's efforts and understand the importance of our commitment to safety.Regarding the condition of the rooms and the issues you described, we take your comments seriously and are committed to improving these aspects. Measures are being taken to address the aging issues mentioned, and the hotel will undergo a complete renovation in November. As for the additional charges, our hotel's pricing policies are clearly indicated during the reservation process and displayed on several platforms. We regret that this contributed to your disappointment. Our full buffet breakfast, not just a coffee and croissant as you claimed, is priced at 15 euros per day per person. I invite you to check your bill, as we had offered consumed breakfasts to you as a goodwill gesture. Finally, I remain at your disposal, as I was during your stay.Best regards.

    Comfortable hotel

    rating21 May 2024

Centrally located and within walking distance of the Louvre and other Paris sites. Cafe ‘Merci Jerome’ is blocks away and a fantastic spot to grab some sweets and people watch. Close to Metro station. Hotel itself is sufficient—dated with well-worn carpet, but many charming aspects (one-person elevator, uneven winding spiral staircase, giant heavy keys, thick felt-type red & yellow wallpaper, fascinating giant exposed beams running through the ceilings). Our two rooms with twin beds were clean & equipped with a mini-fridge. Breakfast was sufficient (though cooking eggs was tricky! 😂) Staff was helpful. Valérie V, Directeur général at Grand Hotel Dechampaigne, responded to this review Thank you very much for your detailed and positive review! We are delighted that you enjoyed our central location, close to the Louvre and other iconic Parisian sites. We appreciate your comments regarding the hotel's decor and amenities. We understand that some elements may seem a bit dated, but please note that our hotel will soon undergo a complete renovation while preserving its unique character. We are glad that you found our rooms clean and well-equipped, and that you appreciated the charming aspects such as the one-person elevator, the spiral staircase, and the exposed beams. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again on your next visit to Paris!Regards,

    Recommended hotel

Strength: Centrally located in the heart of Paris next to a Metro station and a 7 min walk from the airport train station (RER B). The Louvre Museum is within walking distance from the hotel. Friendly staff and clean but small room that is typical of Parisan hotels. Weakness: A bit noisy with early morning garbage truck pick up several mornings in a row. Overall: a nice choice and reasonably priced hotel, which is due for renovation after the upcoming summer Olympic Game. Valérie V, Directeur général at Grand Hotel Dechampaigne, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're delighted to hear that you found our hotel's central location convenient. Please note that we are indeed scheduled for renovation after the upcoming summer Olympic Games, which we believe will further enhance our guests' experience.Thank you once again for your valuable feedback.
