Worst Hotel Experience of My Life - Avoid at All Costs

    rating10 May 2026

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. The Grand Hotel du Calvados - Opera is not just bad, it’s a waking nightmare disguised as accommodation. We walked out after 5 minutes and im surprised it took that long. The rooms? Filthy beyond belief. The carpets reeked of stale rot, the walls were stained with mould, and the air carried a suffocating stench that clung to my clothes long after I left. The bedding looked like it hadn’t been washed in years, and I wouldn’t be surprised if something was crawling in it.Bathrooms were a disgrace: cracked tiles, foul odors, and grime so thick you could scrape it off with a knife. Even the so‑called “common areas” were depressing, with broken furniture and a smell that made me gag.Every single detail screamed neglect and decay. The atmosphere was so unbearable that I couldn’t sleep, constantly worried about what might be lurking in the shadows or crawling under the bed. This hotel doesn’t just ruin your trip it ruins your mood, your clothes, and possibly your health. Staying here felt like punishment.Verdict: The Grand Hotel du Calvados – Opera is a disgrace to hospitality. Dirty, smelly, mouldy, creepy, and utterly revolting. Do yourself a favor: stay literally anywhere else. Sleeping on a park bench would be cleaner, safer, and more comfortable.

A terrible hotel to never go to.

    rating08 Aug 2025

The hotel is terrible. The photos are not accurate and give on line a positive impression that doesn’t exist. The price is very high for the extremely low standard of the facility. The staff is unprofessional and very rude.Is the worst hotel I’ve ever seen for this price level.

**They don't care about you, only your money. Simple as that.**

Rooms are quite stacked and you can almost hear everything from other ones, including their exciting moments.Place isn't very clean either.Towels were hanged on top of the toilet so they're full of .... :))Staff is also full of it and awful-After the passing of my parent, we asked if a partial refund can be organized, they instructed me to reach out via Booking, but they never replied.Today after giving them a call they confirmed they received the mail but didn't respond for weeks. Very unprofessional. We paid for 2 nights and only used the place for 4-5 hours maybe.

The location of hotel can erase other deficiencies which face during of my stay.

The location of hotel is the only best point cause you have the access to metro and city center most of all Hussman street and Pegal easily, but the hotel alone doesn't have any points to add here no aircondition and no mini bar. one more thing I have to add there are some restaurants around its area.

Tiny hotel for quite a price

    rating14 Oct 2019

When I first entered it, I was a bit surprised by its size. Everything is tiny. The receptionists speak several languages. Their English is fluent. I had a room on the 2nd floor. The lift is only for 2 people.Rooms are locked by a card. There is a safe deposit box, a wardrobe, a lamp, 2 glasses, an electic kettle, and a chair in this room. I booked a single room, but they offered me a double one. It had 2 beds placed together. The room was a bit old, but relatively clean and neat. The view from the room was awful. You can see a photo below. On the plus side is the room service. Towels were changed every day. Although dust wasn't wiped well. It also smells stuffy with some mixture of other smells in the room. The breakfast was very basic. Croissants, pastry/ jam/ yogurt/ tea/ milk/kakao/juice /water.The location of the hotel is its best advantage. It's a 1 minute walk from Gare Saint Lazare metro station and a 10 minute walk to the Opera Garnier. You can also enjoy your 20 minute walk to Monmarte.I wouldn't recommend it to people, who dislike narrow rooms and proper breakfast.
