    Unsatisfactory

    rating28 Jan 2026

Let’s just say quite disappointing . We arrived at the hotel mid afternoon . The minute we stepped in we’re greeted by a gentleman that immediately offered a “very good cab service back to the airport “.No welcome , nothing. Didn’t explain how everything worked at the place etc. My first instinct was to leave as soon as we opened the room door. Super dated furniture, uncomfortable bed , somewhat updated bathroom but a pain to get into the shower. We were just too tired to even look for another hotel after a 5 hour delay on our flight. We decided to leave a day earlier which was communicated with the gentleman 3 days prior . On Sunday evening we reminded him we’re leaving in the morning. He completely had a meltdown saying that I should’ve told him earlier, which I did ( same guy) and he had to call the manager etc. I apologized for his miss understanding and chuckled to language barrier. Eventually it all worked out. Anyway buyer be aware. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

An average hotel but in a great area

    rating28 Oct 2025

I stayed in the hotel for 10 days when I was recently in Paris. The hotel was centrally located in a very good area (Le Marais) with lots of stores and restaurants etc. which I enjoyed. My double room was quite smallish in size and consisted of a bed and a desk and faced the street, which wasn’t noisy. The room itself was not updated and the bed was very uncomfortable with a too soft mattress so unfortunately I woke up every morning with a back ache. I’d say it’s not an upscale hotel, very average but decent enough. The area it’s located in is what made it more enjoyable.I had paid in advance for the breakfast which was served from 7:00 to 10:00 am. It was self serve and had various options of cereals, croissants, bread, pastries, boiled eggs, cheese and deli meatswhich I found to be sufficient for breakfast. The staff were okay, some were far more friendly and helpful than others but if asked to call a taxi they did.

    Don't Stay Here!

    rating08 Aug 2025

Our first impression, as we walked in, was how dirty and dusty it appeared. We stayed 5 nights. The first 3 days the bathroom sink was clogged. It would almost overflow and grim would come up as my husband shaved. No hot water for 2 days and we didn't have air conditioning until our last night. We tried to open the window for air, but due to the size of the room, and my suitcase was under the window, the window wouldn't stay open. I also had to crawl into the bed from the bottom due to suitcase and bed against the wall. It was tight quarters. The bed was made everyday and nice fresh towels were given, but the sheets were not changed the entire 5 days! We ate breakfast the first morning in the cute, but dirty, basement area, 11 pounds, as I recall. I would say fair for the price, but the Hostess was unhelpful and rude. We spoke to the day and evening front desk help about the room deficiencies. They offered no assistance other than that they would report it. To whom I wonder?? We never saw a Manager or Concierge! I will give one star for the Location. It was close to several subway stations and restaurants. So go for the area but find a different hotel.

    Good location, depressing vibe

    rating26 Jul 2025

The hotel was in a great location in the Marais district, good Metro access in great neighborhood on a quiet street. Both the lobby and the room were depressing; bad lighting, and furniture that looked like it had been picked up at a garage sale. When I tried to move the wooden desk lamp in my room, the stem toppled off; it was clearly broken and that must have been obvious to anyone who had cleaned the room. Burned out light bulb next to bed. Cold stone floor with an industrial-looking gray mat, like something you’d put on your porch to wipe your feet, next to the bed instead of a throw rug. The room was small and you’d have to be a contortionist to squeeze between the bed and window to access the closet, but for me that wasn’t a big deal—it was really the neglected vibe of the place that was a downer. The bed was fine, the AC worked well, the bathroom seemed to have been recently remodeled and was fine—no major complaints, but a little TLC would go a long way here. Desk staff was mixed; some quite nice and helpful, others who couldn’t be bothered to look up and seemed annoyed to be disturbed. We were told coffee maker in the breakfast room was available 24/7 and that was true, but hotel does not leave any cups by the machine so you can grab the coffee to go, and I was stopped a few times as I walked to the breakfast room early in the morning and had to explain I was just going for coffee and knew breakfast wasn’t open yet. I learned to bring the paper disposable cups down from my room to get my early morning coffee. Elevator extremely slow but that seems to be common in small European hotels. I’m not sure where the outdoor courtyard pictured on the website is, we never saw that and were there for a week, but admittedly didn’t spend much time at the hotel. I’m not sure if the level of accommodation we got was to be expected for the price we paid in Paris, but I’d try someplace else next time (although I definitely would stay in the Marais district again!). A little attention to detail would go a really long way here.

    Castex Hotel

Charming, Vintage Hotel in the heart of Le Marais. Conveniently located in walking distance to shops, restaurants, museums, churches and Victor Hugo's House on Place de Vosges. A lovely welcoming bottle of wine and friendly service. Walk around the corner for Cafe and Pan Chocolate for breakfast or go directly across the street to Thai Orchidee's beautiful atmosphere and delicious food for dinner.
