A very royal visit to Versailles.

We picked this hotel because of its proximity to The Versailles Palace, and found it not only 15 minutes walkable, but that the hotel was nicely located to restaurants and train transportation to/from Paris. The room was well-equipped and comfortable for our two nights stay. Breakfast was far above the usual fare including the ability to poach our own eggs to perfection. E-mail exchanges beforehand with the hotel (Steven) answered our many questions about transportation and palace ticketing. A great visit.

Absolutely great hotel! We stayed for one night and were lucky enough to get a parking spot, there are only around 10. The staff were super helpful and spoke great English. We had forgotten our travel chargers and the reception kindly loaned us a couple for the night. We then somehow, left a bag of gifts in our room after checking out. The cleaners found it and brought it out to reception for us to collect once we realised. Every single staff member was kind, helpful and warm. The location itself is fantastic. A few steps away from a quaint French market, 5 min walk to Versailles palace and 10 mins to the train station that takes you straight into Paris.

Came here for three nights during a work conference. Decent breakfast, with fresh orange juice, pancakes, fruit, bread, coffee machine etc. Very clean rooms. Thin walls though, and thin pillows! Staff were friendly. Mini fridge in room. Bar downstairs. Decent location with shops and restaurants nearby.

Des Lys was a very nice and pleasant stay. Within walking distance of the Palace and many cafes and restaurants. Very quiet and clean. We had an issue regarding room size and that was addressed. Versailles is a great and safe place to visit and Hotel Des Lys is a good place to stay. Recommend getting a large room as the small rooms are more difficult to traverse. If you need a cab, talk to the very helpful dark haired French gentleman who scheduled two days ahead of time a cab that promptly got us to the airport. When we initially arrived we asked for a cab to be scheduled and the clueless young girl at the front desk told us we had to get our own cab.

The reason we've given the Hotel des Lys 4 stars rather than 3 is the location. Just around the corner from the Market Place in the centre of Versailles where there are lots of bars and restaurants and a fairly short walk to the Palace of Versailles.The hotel itself is ok - a little bit dingy in the public areas but our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.The car park is difficult to access p a very narrow alley at the side of the hotel and once you've got in, it's very difficult to make a 3-point turn.We booked the hotel as the first stop on a two week tour of the Loire Valley based on previous reviews and we'd certainly recommend it if you want to be central and have easy access to the Palace
