    Disappointing

    rating04 Oct 2025

This stay was just a night towards the end of a road trip around Europe but it was the worst night of the extended holiday (and not the cheapest night by far). The communal areas are pretty flash but the rooms were dreadful. The first room we were given smelled of drains (which the staff were clearly already aware of when I queried it). The huge windows on the fourth floor rooms opened fully, despite a bed being next to them, which I’ve never seen on my travels and is a clear health and safety issue with children. The next room we were given was far smaller but did not smell and was on the ground floor so the windows were not a concern. However it was cramped and the only overhead lighting was from a ceiling lamp which did not give sufficient light and had a cable that draped across the sofa bed. The breakfast was pleasant but the overall stay was disappointing and not worthy of the Mercure brand. We did not get any refund for the lower standard room compared to what we booked. Demeures de Campagne Chateau de Fontainebleau, Other at Mercure Demeure De Campagne Chateau Fontainebleau, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, even though we are sincerely sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. We apologize for the inconveniences you encountered, particularly regarding the first room and the change that followed. Please rest assured that your comments have been shared with our technical and front desk teams to ensure this does not happen again.Regarding the safety of the windows, a full inspection has been initiated to guarantee the comfort and security of our guests, especially families. Finally, we are pleased that you enjoyed the breakfast and truly hope that, despite this experience, you will give us another opportunity to welcome you again under better circumstances.Sixte de BricourtGuest Experience Manager

    Try to avoid...

    rating03 Oct 2025

The hotel exists purely because of the INSEAD Business School and the fact that students of the school require accommodation, which is scarce in the city. Hence, the Mercure is a busy hotel but instead of at least to try to please its international guests, the hotel management seems to prefer to run a mediocre hotel. Rooms are poor and that is a pleasing description! There are no shelves in the cupboard, the towels are worn and thin, beds are uncomfortable and the TV programs are all French. The 'restaurant' if you wish to call it that, serves mediocre breakfast and a poor lunch / dinner menu - a shame for France, who claim to be a somewhat culinary country. Overall, there is nothing good to be said about this hotel so try and avoid it! Demeures de Campagne Chateau de Fontainebleau, Other at Mercure Demeure De Campagne Chateau Fontainebleau, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions following your stay with us. We are, of course, sorry to learn that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. We would, however, like to clarify a few points. While our hotel does indeed welcome guests from the nearby INSEAD Business School due to its proximity to the campus, this represents only a part of our clientele. We are proud to host visitors from all over the world — families, leisure travelers, and professionals alike — who choose our establishment for its calm setting and welcoming atmosphere.Regarding the television channels, we understand your feedback and are pleased to share that we will soon be equipping all our TVs with Chromecast devices. This will allow our international guests to enjoy a wider and more personalized selection of programs in their preferred language. As for our restaurant, it is led by a Chef who holds the title of Maître Restaurateur, a French certification recognizing the use of fresh, seasonal products and homemade cuisine. We receive many very positive comments about the quality and authenticity of our dishes, which we are proud to serve daily. We sincerely appreciate your detailed feedback, as it helps us continue to improve both our services and facilities. We hope you will allow us the pleasure of welcoming you again for an experience that will better reflect the standards we strive to uphold.Kind regards,Sixte de BricourtGuest Experience Manager

Good location but hotel needs renovation

    rating05 Jun 2025

Good location. Very close to Insead and 10-15 minutes walk to the city. Rooms towards entrance/ little road are very quiet. Outside area pleasant to sit in the evening.However:- Hotel needs renovation, rooms very dated and not up to par: Claustrophobic shower in bath tub, window can only be fully opened, blanket too warm for this time of year, carpet has not been replaced in a long time.- Breakfast setup confusing with cartridge coffee machines- Staff friendly but seemed bit disorganized on check out - Key cards declined to function on a couple of occasions so had to go down to reception to regain access- Price level quite steep for what you get Demeures de Campagne Chateau de Fontainebleau, Other at Mercure Demeure De Campagne Chateau Fontainebleau, responded to this review Dear misterThank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your stay at the Demeure de Campagne Château de Fontainebleau. Not bad.

    rating17 Dec 2024

Good option in Fontainbleau. Festive reception and a lovely fireplace. Although one had to keep putting logs on ourselves. The hotel was a convenient five min walk to Insead. The rooms were okay, but the bathroom was old and could do with an upgrade. It was clean and good enough.
