Great location & soundproofing, friendly staff; small room, damp smell, and sloppy housekeeping—best for short business

    rating20 Dec 2025

I stayed at Mercure Paris Opéra for about five days. The location is excellent—very close to the метро and a major station, and within easy walking distance to big shopping areas like Printemps and Galeries Lafayette. The neighborhood is also lively and convenient, with plenty of restaurants and cafés right in front of the hotel. However, my room felt quite small, even after an upgrade. There was also an unpleasant smell in the room, like damp carpet that hadn’t dried properly. On one day, when I returned to the room, it looked like my folded laundry had been bumped during housekeeping and it wasn’t neatly put back, which was disappointing. That said, there were several strong positives. The staff were genuinely kind and friendly, and the soundproofing was excellent. Even though my room faced the street, outside noise was not an issue at all.Overall, I’d recommend this hotel for a short business trip or a quick stay because of the location, staff, and quiet rooms. For a family stay, it may not be ideal unless you book a larger room, as the space is limited. Mercure Opera Garnier, Other at MERCURE PARIS OPERA GARNIER HOTEL & SPA, responded to this review Dear Syifa A,Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed and balanced review of your stay at Mercure Paris Opéra!We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our central location, the lively neighborhood, the excellent soundproofing, and the genuine kindness of our staff. Your kind words will certainly be shared with the team.We are truly sorry, however, for the inconveniences you experienced regarding the room size, the damp smell, and the lack of care during housekeeping. This does not reflect the standards we strive to maintain, and your feedback has been shared with the relevant teams so we can improve, particularly in terms of room maintenance and attention to detail. We appreciate your recommendation of our hotel for short business stays and agree that selecting a larger room is important for family visits. We sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an even more comfortable and enjoyable experience. Thank you again for your valuable and constructive feedback.Sincerely,Tiya - Front desk

1/5 — Deeply Disappointing and Invasive Experience

    rating20 Oct 2025

I stayed at Mercure Paris Opéra Garnier and had one of the most uncomfortable hotel experiences I’ve ever had.The main issue was the complete lack of respect for privacy. I placed a clear “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door (written in both French and English) and even personally asked reception to ensure no one entered my room. Despite this, staff entered while I was out, removed the sign, redid the room, and moved all my belongings — including intimate personal items. When I raised this with reception, they claimed the sign said something else until I showed it to them in person. I again made it clear that no one was to enter. Yet two days later, while I was in the room and not dressed, staff opened the door and tried to come in — even though the Do Not Disturb sign was still up and the door was locked from the inside. What is the point of having a lock or DND sign if staff ignore both? I felt completely exposed and anxious knowing that anyone could enter at any time.As for the “upgraded” Privilege Room — it was grossly misleading. The room was tiny, not even large enough for two suitcases, and the walls were oddly angled, cutting into the usable space. The bathroom was not as advertised; instead of the pictured rain shower, I had a bathtub with a small handheld head. The website also shows a balcony, which was another complete falsehood — there was none. For nearly €300 (about $500 AUD) per night, this hotel failed on every level — comfort, honesty, privacy, and basic guest respect. To make matters worse, there’s no occupied indicator on the reception toilet — multiple people tried to open the door while I was inside. Not a good start or end to an already uncomfortable stay.Avoid this hotel at all costs. Guillaume BATA, Other at MERCURE PARIS OPERA GARNIER HOTEL & SPA, responded to this review Dear John,Thank you for your feedback regarding your stayWe would like to apologize for having entered and cleaned your roomWe are deeply sorry for the inconvenience because we had the information that you did not want the room being cleanedWe checked the different entries in your room with the key software and nobody entered in your room on October 18th and 20thHowever, on October 19th, there has been a misunderstanding with the instructions between our different services and we indeed cleaned your room on that dayAs a commercial gesture, we would like to offer you a 50% refund for this nightThis will be automatically refunded on the credit card used for the reservationPlease accept our apologizes for the inconvenienceWe hope to have a chance to welcome you again for another stay in ParisBest regards

Great convenient location, lots of places to eat and shop

    rating04 Sept 2025

This hotel is located close to Saint-Lazare station and short walk to famous department stores Printemps and Galleries Lafayette. The only watchout is the noise from restaurants across that street but it had minimal impact on us since the noise subsides by around 11pm. The other tip is the directions on Google Maps/Uber drivers...they tend to get directed to drop us off at the end of the one-way street. If you need the car to go the front door of the hotel, ask the driver to enter the d'Ilsy from Rue de Rome (and not Rue du Havre). Lastly, the rooms were clean and bed was comfortable. Mercure Opera Garnier, Other at MERCURE PARIS OPERA GARNIER HOTEL & SPA, responded to this review Dear Orange888,Thank you for your kind words regarding your recent stay at Mercure Paris Opéra Garnier Hôtel & Spa. We are delighted to hear that you appreciated our convenient location, and hope you could enjoy Paris thanks to it.We are also glad that the comfort of the cleanliness of our rooms were to your liking, and hope to give you a service as satisfying as this one for your next stay.We acknowledge your feedback about the noise from nearby restaurants, and we appreciate your understanding of the situation. Your tip regarding the best route for drivers is very helpful, and we will be sure to share it with our future guests to enhance their arrival experience.Thank you once again for your valuable insights. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future.Best regards,Lilas - Front desk

BED BUGS!!!!!! ALSO DEAD MOSQUITOES IN ROOM

    rating11 Aug 2025

My partner and I decided to visit Paris for our first trip away together since having our daughter—a special getaway to reconnect and enjoy each other’s company.Upon arrival, we were slightly disappointed to find that the room we’d booked looked nothing like the photos online. Still, we didn’t make a fuss, as we only planned to sleep there and spend most of our time out exploring. We arrived Friday afternoon, went out for dinner in the evening, and even ordered the same food and drinks. Everything seemed lovely. Back at the hotel, we went to bed, but on Saturday morning my partner noticed a few bites on his body. We didn’t think much of it at first, assuming they were mosquito bites, especially since we saw several dead mosquitoes in the room.By midday Saturday, my partner began feeling unwell. We returned to the hotel for him to shower and rest, but he didn’t want to let it ruin our trip, so we went out for dinner that evening. Later that night, around 1 a.m., he woke up feeling very sick and began vomiting. This was strange, as we’d eaten exactly the same food and I felt fine.On Sunday morning, we woke to find my partner covered in bites and unable to eat. By Monday evening, we returned home, and on Tuesday morning we contacted a doctor because the bites had started oozing yellow pus.The doctor confirmed these were not mosquito bites but bed bug bites that had become infected—25 bites in total. This is absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. While the hotel’s garden was lovely, the food was good, and the staff were pleasant, the fact that guests can be “eaten alive” by bed bugs makes it impossible to recommend staying here. Mercure Opera Garnier, Other at MERCURE PARIS OPERA GARNIER HOTEL & SPA, responded to this review Dear Chloé,First of all, thank you for taking the time to discuss this situation with me last week by telephone. As mentioned during this conversation, we are sincerely sorry about the health issues faced by your partner. The comfort and well-being of our guests are our top priority, and that’s why we take your feedback very seriously.I would like to assure you that our hotel does not have any issues with bed bugs. While it can occasionally happen, like all public properties, as we do not have control over the personal items of the guests we welcome, we remain extremely reactive if such a case occurs to ensure immediate extermination. We maintain a high level of vigilance and have strict procedures to avoid this kind of situation. Daily checks are carried out by our housekeeping team, who are instructed to thoroughly inspect and clean each room. Preventive and repellent products are also applied regularly, and all our beds are equipped with bedbug-proof mattress protectors to limit any potential risks. Moreover, we work with a specialized external company which performs regular periodic checks, including expert dog inspections, to prevent this type of situation.Following your comment, an additional in-depth inspection has been requested to ensure that the room you occupied is fully secure for our future guests. It has been confirmed there was no bed bugs in the room you occupied. As kindly explained during our phone call, given the appearance of the marks and the symptoms described, this could very likely be an allergic reaction to mosquito bites rather than bed bugs. Bed bugs usually cause itching but not the type of physical reactions you have mentioned. In any case, it would be highly recommended to consult another doctor if your partner reacts so strongly to mosquito bites. We fully understand your disappointment and sincerely regret that your trip, which should have been a pleasant moment for you both, was affected in this way. Please know that I always remain at your disposal by phone, the usual direct line, or e-mail should you wish to discuss this matter further. Above all, I sincerely hope that your partner feels better very soon and I will not hesitate to keep being implied should I can provide more assistance.Once again, we are truly sorry for the experience you had and thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.Sincerely,Carla – Front Desk Assistant ManagerMercure Paris Opéra Garnier Hôtel & Spa

Comfortable room in a great location

    rating25 Jul 2025

Located in the Saint Lazare and Haussmann area, it was easy to get around. Lots of shopping and restaurants and bars nearby, I think it is a good location. Easy access to metro and buses as well. Room was small but comfortable. If I have a bone to pick, it would be the shower where water will splash out of the tub as there is no shower curtains. We like the open-air bar, as well as the small but functional gym where we could at least exercise. Mercure Opera Garnier, Other at MERCURE PARIS OPERA GARNIER HOTEL & SPA, responded to this review Dear Mr Kyoto !We would like to thank you for taking the time to share the experience of your recent stay at Mercure Opera Garnier Hotel & Spa.It is always a pleasure to know that we made our guests felt comfortable and welcome !We have takes notes of your request for the shower and we will pass the information on to the relevant department.Once again, thank you for your feedback and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in a near future.Best regards,Léandre - Front Desk.
