Beautiful location, but serious issues you deserve to know about

    rating25 Apr 2026

I booked 4 nights and left after 2! Here is what you won't find on their website and need to know before booking this hotel:NOTE: We had one room booked, but changed rooms after all of the troubles.ROOM ACCESS IS A LABYRINTH. Reaching room 321 (1st room) required navigating a disorienting series of corridors, unexpected level changes, a significant number of steps, and a meeting room that might have people in it. I kept thinking: what happens in a fire at night? Could a disoriented guest find their way out in the dark, in a panic? I'm not sure I could have.Once we were able to get to the room, it looked rather pleasing - despite the huge stain on the carpet {see photo} and clashing patterns. But the functionality of the room is what needs to be known.NON-FUNCTIONING AIR CONDITIONING despite being explicitly advertised. The room was stifling upon arrival. When I raised this, staff suggested that April temperatures in Paris make AC unnecessary. Think about that logic: what if the previous guest had the room at 30°C (86°F) all week? You have no way of knowing, and no way of fixing it. The AC units exist but are locked and inaccessible to guests. In fact, in the second room, we heard AC noises but got no cold air. I lived in France for years and now reside in the US, I booked this hotel specifically because it advertised AC, not because I don't know how Paris works.ACTIVE RENOVATIONS - with the only mention anywhere being in the name. Normandy le Chantier translates to Normandy Under Construction, but that's supposed to be a joke, right? You will hear construction. You will feel it. Plan accordingly, or better yet, plan elsewhere until the work is done (if it gets done... because if it does, they might have to change the name!).THE BATHROOM. The toilet room in our original room (321) was smaller than the lavatory on the A350 we had just flown in on. Not an exaggeration.NOISE: with two separate problems across two rooms. In the first room, the guests above were up all night: constant footsteps, objects being dropped, toilet flushing. We were moved to a larger room as a goodwill gesture, but the upgrade came with its own problem: proximity to the rooftop meant constant noise from the building's HVAC and fan systems above the ceiling. (But as I said before - no AC running. So why did we hear it?)SMELL. BUCKWHEAT - LA CRÊPERIE is a restaurant in the hotel, and its sickly-sweet smell fills the corridors. Even when we were on the fifth floor (2nd room), we could smell it.THE SLIPPERS! Our first room had no slippers, although my wife found the slipper packaging tucked inside a bathrobe sleeve. We had already bought our own from the nearby IKEA by then. That one is on us for not reporting it, but it speaks to the overall state of the room. We only realized this was an omission when the second room - thankfully - did have them. But let's not forget…THE "ALTERNATIVE" ELEVATOR. When the main lift proved inaccessible to our room, the check-in clerk suggested we use the other (maintenance?) elevator. It arrived with two garbage bins inside. [Photos attached].ONE POSITIVE HIGHLIGHT that I have to mention. The breakfast espresso and omelets were excellent. And I say that as someone who grew up in France and knows what a proper coffee should taste like. Much needed after the sleepless nights.I raised these issues during my stay, accepted a room change in good faith, but in retrospect, I wish we left sooner. I'm sharing this so future guests can make a fully informed choice.

It should be a 5 star hotel.

We needed a hotel for an overnight emergency. Starting with the price in regards to the other hotels around the area, the hotel had better prices for a last minute booking. Additionally, the front desk manager was very friendly and fully bilingual. Now the rooms, wow! The room was very clean, had many outlets, big rooms and bathrooms (especially for Paris standards). The room decor was welcoming and the toiletries were of excellent quality. The rooms on the 6th floor have a balcony too. My only complaint is the the usb charging port was not working or I was unable to make it work. Front Desk Manager, Service clients/Réception at Normandy Hotel, responded to this review Thank you very much for your thoughtful review and for sharing your experience with us. Our team will look into it to ensure everything is in perfect working order for future guests. It was a pleasure to host you, and we truly hope to welcome you back for a longer stay next time!

    Are you kidding me?

    rating30 Apr 2025

Well, we had a lot happened in this hotel, including them putting us in a tiny little room that’s half of even Paris ‘ standard. We paid quite a bit for it but almost got lung infection here. Now after we expressed our anger, they moved us to a larger room. Bait and switch but got caught? They switched me to a better room, water under the bridge, it’s Paris, I had to let it go. But this I can’t: I order uber eats 2 nights ago to have it delivered to my room. The front desk called me at like 1:30 am to pick up my food. Today I waited as well it, only that after one hour, the food wasn’t here. When I checked my app, it said it arrived already. And when I went down stairs, the food was right at where the front offices guy was. I told him nicely almost half jokingly that I thought he would call. With a nasty, rude, smirk on his face he said it’s not my job. When I asked are you serious man? He kept on being very aggressive with his look and demeanor. I think we can all agree that’s not how any one should treat their guests. Or maybe I really love Paris and had thoroughly enjoyed my days being here and running into someone like this is really not what we expect to run into in Paris. The owner of this hotel should really take notes on the operation and the people they hire. Out of many many reviews, I give non 5 stars only 4 times, meaning I don’t like to leave bad reviews. I hope we can do better in treating each other and being better human beings. Front Desk Manager, Service clients/Réception at Normandy Hotel, responded to this review Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your experience. We are truly sorry to read that your stay did not fully meet your expectations. While we are glad that we were able to provide you with a larger room, we sincerely regret the difficulties you encountered, particularly regarding the delivery of your food and the interaction with a member of our team. Please accept our most sincere apologies — this is not the level of service we aim to provide. Your comments will be shared with our management team so we can address this situation directly and reinforce our standards of hospitality and professionalism. We value your observations and the spirit in which you shared them, and we hope you might give us another opportunity in the future to restore your trust and offer you the warm, seamless experience you deserve in Paris.
