A great stay in the Marais

    rating11 Apr 2026

I stayed in this boutique hotel during my first visit to Paris in over 30 years. Lovely! The location in the Marais is ideal. It is close to several metro stations and a 5-7 minute walk from Place de la Bastille. There are only 12 rooms and it has a very traditional atmosphere, with tiled floors and exposed floorboards. But despite the fact that it's an old building, it has everything that the modern traveler expects, with the exception of laundry service. There's a laundrette less than 50 metres away though, so that's fine. The room was a good size with two spacious closets. As a traveler from another country with a weak dollar (Canada) I did find the price a bit high, but from what I've been able to determine it was pretty standard for the season in an expensive district like the Marais. It was very clean and quiet even though I was on the street side. Service was impeccable. I had minor plumbing issues at the very beginning of my stay which were efficiently and effectively resolved. And the service was outstanding. I will definitely return to this hotel. My price included breakfast, and because there is always room for improvement, I will say that the breakfast is all right but not terrific. The spread includes supermarket cheese in plastic pouches and fruit salad that seems to be mostly melon. And they ran out of yogurt one morning! But these are small quibbles. This will be my go-to hotel in Paris.

    Think again before booking here

Sloped ceilings, not good for claustrophobic or tall people. Dirty narrow sloped stairs. Unauthorized charges, that have taken hours from my time! Not acceptable!

Good for metro to other areas but lots to see close by

I had reserved the superior room on top floor, the room was nice plenty of storage BUT a terrible smell coming up through the shower tray from the sewers. We did tell reception who said someone would go and look but they couldn't fix it. After two days there was availability for us to move to a smaller standard room but with a larger bathroom. Not so much storage. The bed was wide but short. Shower was nice and hot. Lovely toiletries. Hairdryer was a bit wimpy. There was a kettle and mugs but if you were lucky you got two teabags and on one day none, so take your own. Breakfast a bit boring typical continental but they will cook some eggs for you.On check out we expected to pay less for the two nights in a smaller lower grade room but apparently not as we had received a discount for booking on line in advance but surely that should have meant we would also get the lower grade room discount, but apparently not! They refused which we thought unfair and not very customer friendly especially as we had to suffer the smell and having to move! but as we were on way to airport we did not pursue. It took us an hour and a half to get to Terminal 2 via the metro and train. On arrival we took a fixed price taxi for €56 from CdG airport . There is a small health food store close by the hotel where we got wine, milk etc. Very handy for the metro. Le Presbytère Hotêl, Propriétaire at Hotel Saint-Louis Marais, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you very much for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your stay with us. We truly appreciate your balanced feedback, as it helps us improve our services. We are pleased to read that you found the hotel convenient for public transport and appreciated some aspects of your room, such as the shower amenities and toiletries. We are also glad that our location and nearby shops were useful during your stay. However, we are sincerely sorry for the unpleasant smell you experienced in your initial room. This is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, and we understand how uncomfortable this must have been. While our team did their best to investigate the issue and later offer you an alternative room, we regret that this solution did not fully meet your expectations, particularly in terms of storage space and room comfort.Regarding the rate applied at check-out, we regret any frustration caused. As your reservation was made with a discounted advance online rate, unfortunately this did not allow for an additional price adjustment after the room change. That said, we fully understand your disappointment and are sorry that this situation left you with a negative impression of our customer service. We have also shared your comments about the breakfast selection, in-room amenities, and hairdryer with the relevant departments so improvements can be considered.Thank you again for your honest feedback. We hope that, should you choose to visit Paris again, you might give us another opportunity to provide you with a smoother and more comfortable experience.Kind regards,Front Desk Manager

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in

    rating23 Nov 2025

We stayed at this hotel in Paris for 5 nights, and unfortunately our experience was disappointing.Negatives:• Two weeks before arrival, I emailed the hotel to request a late check-out for an extra fee. I received written confirmation for a 5:00 PM check-out at a cost of €90. However, upon arrival we were told that late check-out was not possible because the hotel was fully booked, and that the staff member who had confirmed it was a new employee who had only started the day before. This felt very unprofessional.• The room was extremely small, with barely enough space for two people to move around.• Maintenance was poor: furniture was old, items in the room were dusty, there were hairs in the toilet, the bathroom cabinet was broken at the bottom, and the faucets were rusty.• The air conditioning did not work in heating mode, even though the outside temperature was only 4°C. When we asked at reception, we were told “it’s not too cold yet,” which was not acceptable.Positives:• The bathroom was large and spacious.• The shower had strong water pressure.• The location was convenient, close to a metro station and several points of interest. Le Presbytère Hotêl, Propriétaire at Hotel Saint-Louis Marais, responded to this review Dear madam,Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback following your stay with us in Paris. We sincerely regret to learn that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Please accept our apologies for the confusion regarding the late check-out. While we understand how frustrating this situation must have been, the availability unfortunately changed due to full occupancy. That said, the communication you received prior to arrival should have been clearer and more reliable, and we fully acknowledge that this caused disappointment. We are reviewing our internal procedures to ensure that confirmations provided to guests are always accurate and consistent. We are also very sorry to hear about the condition of your room and the maintenance issues you encountered. Cleanliness and comfort are extremely important to us, and your comments regarding dust, bathroom fixtures, and overall upkeep have been shared with our housekeeping and maintenance teams for immediate corrective action.Regarding the heating system, we regret that the temperature in your room was not comfortable during your stay and that our response at reception did not meet your expectations. We understand that comfort is essential, especially during colder weather, and we will reinforce our procedures to better assist guests in similar situations. We do appreciate your positive remarks about the spacious bathroom, strong water pressure, and our convenient location close to public transportation and points of interest.Once again, we are truly sorry that your stay fell short of what you expected. Your feedback is valuable and helps us improve our service. We hope you might consider giving us another opportunity in the future to provide you with a much more pleasant experience.Kind regards,Hotel Management Team
