Fantastic view, experience could be much much better

The view from the hotel was amazing, the place itself was really interesting and it’s such a shame they don’t make more of it. Five tips to make it better: upgrade the reception experience ( basic things like greeting the guest while on the phone to ask to wait a minute or knowing where to take the dog for a walk); mark some hiking routes; upgrade the cleaners as the whole place was really not clean enough; service in the restaurant at breakfast was very poor and dinner was better but should be even better; give a dog bed in the room or don’t charge for the woofie. All these things are just basic and wouldn’t cost much.

Too hot, too dated for the price

The Abbey is beautyful, full of history and very interesting The rooms however and the hotel structure is very dated and in desperate need of a refurbishment. We were accommodated in the Saint Michelle room in the main building above the restaurant and it was very hot. Once we arrived the receptionist switched on a unit that was meant to be an AC but was in fact a fan totally useless in the heat of mid July. When we pointed that out, a young receptionist was very kind and showed us other two room available in the main building but all had the same ventilation unit so no AC. The rooms in the outbuildings were not avalilable so they might be more functional but we didn’t have a chance to see them. The manager came to the room when I complained and he guaranteed me that the AC was working till the day before. He seemed a bit lost when looking for a thermostat in the room ( there was none) and an AC outlet outside the window (none again). He justified himself saying he had just started to work there. Luckily the receptionist lent us a fan but unfortunately it was still too hot and the sleeping was miserable. So until the refurbishment takes place I would recommend to skip the Abbaye especially in the summer months.

A bit outdated but beautiful. Greatly located if you wish to visit the Provence. Could be much cleaner. Fantastic pool. You can enjoy a really provencal ambience and a wonderful view. It is worthwhile to pay. Good breakfast. extra for Saint Jerome suite. Appalling value for money in this badly managed hotel

Appalling value for money in this badly managed hotel. The room was cheaply fitted out and dilapidated - cardboard cups in a hotel of this supposed quality. The external areas were amazingly unkempt, with no attempt to brush areas or tidy up. The planters on the dining terrace were full of dead flowers. The area adjacent to reception was filled with old trolleys full of dirty linen and an ancient coat rail - at the foot of the main staircase. The dining room window frames are totally rotted and are falling apart. To totally spoil my visit, my evening meal was dreadful - 2 small pieces of lamb edged with uncooked fat. As a final insult we were charged for 2 coffees that we didn't have. Our final bill of 401€ ( each of us only had 1 course at dinner ) was an outrage for this shabby second rate establishment. This stunning location deserves significantly better.
