    Deeply disappointing

    rating20 May 2026

We stayed three nights at Château d'Artigny, paying over €1,000 for two people and one room, expecting the level of comfort and service associated with a 5-star hotel and spa. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. The room itself felt dated, especially the bathroom, but the real issue was the extremely strong sewage smell coming from the toilet area. We reported it immediately upon arrival, yet still spent the evening, the entire night, and half of the following day dealing with the odor. The hotel categorically refused to move us to another room — clearly because no equivalent rooms were available and they did not want to upgrade us.What was most frustrating was the inconsistent response from staff. First, they claimed they had never heard of such a problem before. Later, they admitted it can happen when rooms have been closed for some time. Reading other reviews afterward, it is obvious this issue was already known internally. The “solution” consisted of filling the room with heavy perfume and pouring strong-smelling vinegar into the bathroom pipes, while forcing us to leave the windows open for hours despite the cold weather outside.Aside from a few pleasant exceptions, the staff overall felt either poorly trained or simply indifferent / rude.In the end, the compensation offered amounted to roughly €80 in value: one inexpensive bottle of champagne, spa access, and the cheapest wine from our first dinner removed from the bill. On a stay costing over €1,000, this felt frankly ridiculous considering the circumstances. They also refused to offer the first dinner despite the fact that we had spent the evening, night, and following morning with a literal sewage smell in the room. For a 5-star property, this is simply unacceptable. The spa itself was also disappointing. While the €20 access fee is reasonable on paper, the facilities felt overcrowded and poorly managed, with no control over time slots, aging infrastructure, and even worn-out unisex changing areas. Overall, the experience never felt luxurious — more like a beautiful property struggling to maintain the standards it advertises.

    Charming

    rating08 Apr 2026

We stayed two nights and were charmed by the hotel. It is very picturesque. The overall impression is spectacular. The reception was quick and pleasant and the room spacious and comfortable. We had dinner both nights in the restaurant and consider them among the best we’ve had although the service which was very good was a bit more leisurely than we would have liked. Our issues with the hotel are remediable. Our room had next to no hot water pressure so the soak in the tub I planned after a long day visiting chateaux was for naught. Also they should consider adding some ramps to wheel luggage up the steps. The very helpful front desk staff did carry them up but a ramp is needed.
