Below par service, dangerous and rude personnel.

I was one of the lucky ones in our party, who got a decent size room. The overall impression is dated, but not completely worn down. The restaurant is for breakfast only - and you need to go to the city center to eat lunch / dinner. There is a restaurant at the Novotel down the road, but it is closed during the weekend. The elevator was stuck twice during the week we stayed - we spent the weekend in Paris - and when we came back on the evening 16th of September one elevator was not functioning - and when I pressed the button on the other elevator "Up" - nothing happened. I asked the receptionist if the elevator was working and she reacted in every shape and form - body language, deep sigh and eyes in the sky as if I was a complete moron that I didn't know that I should have pressed "Down" - to get up.Unstable elevators is of course pretty bad - but worse was that when the elevator was too busy we tried to use the fire escape - and it was blocked on the ground floor - that is quite frankly ridiculous ad just too dangerous. I know this hotel is cheap - but it is for a good reason - use your money elsewhere. hôtel mercure centre, Service clients/Réception at Mercure Tours Centre Gare, responded to this review Dear Sir,Thank you for your comment regarding your recent stay with us.We are very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced during your stay with us. We do our utmost every day to offer you the best possible service and we regret that our services did not live up to your expectations. In fact, we are experiencing a technical problem with one of our elevators, which is beyond our control as we work with an external company to maintain it. We apologize again for the inconvenience.Best regards,The Mercure Tours Centre team

Should have stayed at the Ibis next door.

Having just arrived from a Mecure in Clermont-Ferrand, to call this hotel a Mecure, damages the brands name. The whole hotel is in need of a major revamp. On arriving at your room, you always want to feel that it's adequate for a good night sleep. The very thin sheet right on top of the unprotected mattress did not give me that impression !The room looked dated. There was a rip in the blackout curtains backing. We were facing the railway, and the soundproofing was adequate. The fridge had been removed, but the extension lead and space for it was still in place, and on mentioning it the next day to reception, the reply was, "Only Privilege rooms have them" . Which we knew was wrong as we were travelling as a 4 and our friends had a fridge. Their room was just as dated as ours.

Reasonable hotel near the centre of town

    rating04 Nov 2022

I've given this hotel the benefit of the doubt in giving it four stars but I hesitated between three and four. I would rate it as "good" - not quite "very good" but better than "average". On the plus side, it is well situated close to the town centre and the room was big and clean. On the negative side, it is starting to look a little sad; it probably needs to be smartened up a bit. The reception staff were very helpful. Nice hotel and great location

    rating12 Oct 2022

Spent 2 nights here with friends with 3 hotel rooms, and everything was fine. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but it was so well located there were a few really nice restaurants and boulangeries within easy walking distance. The train station was very close by as well.
