    Deeply disappointing check-in experience for a five-star property. I approached the front desk three separate times before I was finally able to check in each time facing a queue of 20 to 30 people and no communication whatsoever from staff about expected wait times. Not once did anyone come out to address the situation, offer assistance, or simply apologize. The room itself and the rest of the stay were fine, but check-in is a hotel's first impression and Marriott Berlin failed that test entirely. First time I've experienced anything like this at a hotel of this category.     The location was fantastic. Hotel is new and rooms are specious, clean and quiet. Pool and sauna is a bonus, gym was decent size. The public transportation is right infront of the door, the shopping malls are accessible via underground with good choice of shops and restaurants / food court. We walked to major attractions and on a rainy day took the public transport. Oh and extra bonus? You can take the train to the airport directly from Potsdamer Platz. Perfect!

    Confusing charges, repeated card holds, and poor communication — very uncomfortable experience

    Summary: Very uncomfortable and unclear financial experience. My card was repeatedly charged with unclear transactions and no proper explanation, despite assurances at check-out. Transparency and communication were lacking. If this is your last option, consider paying in cash and be cautious when using your credit card.I had a very confusing and stressful financial experience during my stay at Marriott Berlin.Despite traveling frequently and staying in many hotels, I have never felt this level of discomfort before. From the moment I checked in, the hotel placed a €300 deposit hold on my credit card. Starting from the first night, I began receiving multiple charges and authorizations for different amounts — even though I did not use any hotel facilities.When I asked the front desk, I was told it was a “technical issue” and that all amounts would be released. However, the same thing happened again on the second night, and continued throughout my stay. It honestly felt like my card was being used repeatedly without clear explanation.At check-out, I specifically asked for confirmation, as I no longer felt comfortable with my card being charged daily. I was clearly assured that all amounts, including the deposit, would be fully released, and that I had no outstanding charges.Unfortunately, after nearly a month, not all amounts were returned, and more than half of the deposit was actually charged without prior notice or clear explanation. When I followed up (which was not easy since I was no longer in Berlin), I was told that this amount was a city tax and could not be refunded — despite being told at check-out that there were no charges.What makes this even more confusing is that I was traveling for business with three colleagues from the same company, under the same booking arrangements and provider — yet I was the only one who experienced these charges.The situation became so concerning that I had to freeze my credit card due to the repeated and unclear transactions.Overall, this was a very uncomfortable experience financially. My advice: if you are concerned about unexpected or unclear charges, you may want to be cautious. If you stay here, consider carefully how you handle payments. At our property, this authorization amounts to EUR 50.00 per night and serves solely to cover potential incidental charges. During the night run the authorized amount is recalculated automatically for the next business day. This can result in multiple authorization notifications appearing on a credit card statement, even when no hotel services are used. While these notifications may appear as pending amounts, they are not charges initiated by the hotel. The timing of the release of these authorizations is determined exclusively by the card issuer and may vary depending on the bank’s internal processing timelines.Your reservation was made via a third‑party booking provider, to whom the accommodation charges were paid directly prior to arrival. As stated in the booking confirmation issued by that platform, the mandatory Berlin City Tax is payable at the hotel. This tax corresponds to 7.5 percent and is imposed by the City of Berlin. The full amount is forwarded to the city, and hotels are legally required to collect it without exception or discretion.At the time of check‑out, there were no outstanding hotel charges related to your stay.
