The little hotel with great excuses... and will speak to you like a golden retriever!

    rating14 Feb 2026

NGL, got a little corner room with a view (apparently a Plat upgrade), but the pleasantness stops there. Stayed here for 4 days, 3 nights for context. These are all minor service issues, but hotel staff has the ability to generate EXCUSES for every single issue.1. Long elevator wait... only one functioning elevator for 10 floors plus parking garage. EXCUSE: Oh, let's put up a very permanent, laminated "AUSSER BETRIEB" on the second elevator. Me: Well, how long has it been out of order? I've been here 3 days, and most hotel elevators with issues are fixed the same day. FIX IT, this is Germany!2. Room not serviced. Also ran out of coffee pucks and bottled water (day 2). I asked housekeeping staff cleaning a room down the hallway to please service my room and replenish items. Not cleaned. Ran into supervisor later in the day and asked again. EXCUSE FROM SUPERVISOR: "They don't understand English or German." Later, room tidied, but still no coffee pucks or water. Bath mat removed and not replaced. 3. Room not serviced again (day 3)! I ran into (a different) housekeeping supervisor. Google translate to let her know what I wanted. Had to run to Reception for coffee pucks. EXCUSE FROM FRONT DESK: Same language issue ("sie sprechen weder Englisch noch Deutsch"). "And, oh that room is new and they don't clean it" (say what??). "Also, because guests normally stay only for 1-2 nights, they don't replenish used coffee pucks or water (say what??)." P.s. there is no phone in the room, so you have to schlep downstairs by taking said "long wait" elevator to speak to the front desk. 4. Paid for breakfasts but had to checkout early on last morning. Most hotels would pack you a "to go" bag. But they can't do this because... FRONT DESK EXCUSE: "You have to request this before 12 noon." Me: How am I supposed to know your house rules. Front desk explained then painstakingly explain that breakfast staff had left. Repeated excuse to me like a golden retriever several times. I think the golden retriever understood this the first time, but was hoping the front desk human would figure out how to meet guest request. How about let try this: The breakfast restaurant remains open, so so you'd think the afternoon kitchen staff (they are there, I saw many of them with my own eyes) might be able to put a juice, yogurt, fruit, and croissant in a "to go" bag. Gets better...5. I asked the the front desk (I won't mention a name here) to help solve my problem. He said he can't because he is NOT the manager. When I asked for a card with the manager's name and contact so I can raise these issues, I was surprisingly (wait for it) met with this RESPONSE: "Well, you can speak to me then, I am the ASSISTANT MANAGER!" Well, this(same) assistant manager can't solve minor service issues but will assume the manager's role in taking guest feedback. NOOOOOOOOO!Throwing excuses at guests is not helpful and lame. Guests want their needs satisfied, not hear your excuses. This is a YOU problem! Service issues happen, even at the JW Marriott Berlin (see my earlier post), but they made it right (kudos to the GM). Staff the right people who can be creative to satisfy unhappy guests. The breakfast staff works hard though. Now, let's see if THE manager reads this and would reach out. I will report back! Nice hotel, disappointing management

    rating04 Sept 2025

The room was very nice, as well the breakfast. The price is reasonable and the location is not too bad either. The only big negative point Is the politeness of the reception team (a tall guy in particular) and the very bad attitude of the hotel manager. For their mistake I have been charged my stay twice and instead of solving the issue, the Hotel manager was extremely rude.Compliments Novum hospitality! Basic, but bright and cheerful

    rating30 Aug 2025

The Niu Dwarf is a Holiday Inn gone “hip””. The good thing about that is that it is spotless and reception is cheerful and helpful. Our standard room was not much bigger than the bed and came with a safe but no facilities such as kettle, fridge or bottles of water. Just the bed, some open shelving for clothes and a small table. We liked the location, a couple of minutes walk to the train and well connected by buses. There is excellent coffee two blocks up the road, but probably not a lot within walking distance of the hotel that you will be interested in. It is quick by bus/train to get to other areas though.I enjoyed the stay here and I can recommend it if you won’t be spending a lot of time in your (small) room.

    At last!

    rating10 Aug 2025

This was a last-minute visit to Berlin, booked on Thursday, with my journey starting Friday evening after work. My choice of hotel was influenced by its location south of the city and its excellent transport links to and from BER Airport, as well as proximity to a parkrun I wanted to do. Travel time from BER to Schöneberg late Friday was around 40 minutes via the S-Bahn, with one line change. From the station, it’s a left turn and a short 3-minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is modern, fresh, and uniquely designed in terms of layout and size. The reception area is lovely, and the welcome was brilliant. Check-in was efficient, and I was asked whether I preferred a quiet or noisy room. I opted for the quiet side, opposite the road—although the whole area is fairly peaceful thanks to a neighbouring building that buffers sound. My room overlooked a small church and cemetery, adding a touch of charm.Rooms are decorated in a wonderfully imaginative way—starting with a watering can mounted on the wall! The room was well-equipped, and finally, a hotel where I could connect my phone to a speaker—not just one in the main room, but also a mirror speaker in the bathroom. Bluetooth-enabled and surprisingly powerful. The room was quiet, though I suspect most guests weren’t planning to blast techno… unlike me, once I found the speaker! The bathroom and shower were excellent. The body wash smelled like bubblegum, and everything felt fresh, new, and very clean. The bed was comfy, and I slept well with the window open, listening to birds outside. Despite being near a main road, the hotel felt shielded from traffic noise. There was a safe, plenty of storage, and the TV was excellent.I didn’t eat at the on-site restaurant and bar due to a lack of gluten-free options—including no gluten-free beer. No problem though—a short walk back to the station revealed several restaurants and shops. The local area may look a bit rundown, but it’s actually very pleasant. I chatted with a couple of friendly shopkeepers and stocked up on gluten-free beer and snacks. Take a walk beyond the main road (Sachsendamm) and you’ll find lots of cafés. I watched some football (FE Inter Berlin) and visited Pretty Hill Café, which was perfect in the sun and very peaceful. Nearby, PapalaCup Café was also lovely, with plenty of bars and eateries in the area.I continued my walk and visited Bowie’s former apartment on Hauptstraße.Checkout was easy, and I stored my bag while I explored for the day. On my return, the reception staff kindly helped me charge my phone and never made me feel rushed before heading back to the airport. For parkrun fans, this hotel is a great choice:Mauerweg parkrun: S-Bahn from Schöneberg to Südkreuz, then S25/S36 to Lichterfelde Ost, followed by a 2-mile walk/jog or the M11/X11 bus.Hasenheide parkrun: S46/42 to Neukölln, then U7 to Hermannplatz.Havelkanal parkrun: S42 to Südkreuz, then S25 north to Hennigsdorf. I previously took the S25 directly from Potsdamer Platz and jogged to the start, though buses are also available. This hotel was a refreshing choice. Schöneberg is real Berlin—it’s not polished or pretty, but it has character and soul. It’s authentic and gives you a taste of urban Berlin living. The hotel was perfect for a city break or longer stay. Quirky yet familiar in that IHG way. Efficient, welcoming, and well-located for exploring both the city centre and beyond.Brilliant also for getting around Berlin and getting into Mitte.Brilliant staff, very friendly, and an excellent hotel experience. Honestly, the Bluetooth speakers alone made it brilliant. Great hotel.

Hello,I stayed at this hotel for a few days in May of this year: the rooms are really comfortable and very nice, the cleaning service was excellent, and the staff was very kind. I also had a great breakfast.Unfortunately, there was a small issue with my credit card that was not resolved—in fact, I received a rude response from the general manager on duty, who abruptly asked me to leave.
