Great location; very minimalist and environmentally conscious

    rating30 May 2026

Very convenient to main train station. Very clean and generally quiet, except Saturday night when the bass notes of the music in the bar on the 6th floor could be heard on the 3rd. Human contact with staff was minimal. Check in was electronic, but we had to get assistance two times from the one staff person present in the lobby whose primary function seemed to be checking luggage for those who arrived before check in time. In an apparent effort to reduce paper and plastic waste, there were no travel brochures evident (tourist info office was a few minutes walk away at the Hauptbahnhof; there were books about the city scattered artfully around the small lobby), no toiletries except in full size bottles, 2 coffee pods in a box that was made for 4. There was a tablet on the bedside table that "welcomed" us and might have provided hotel information and more, but as soon as the wrong button was pushed it ceased to function. The room was small and spotless; all black and white. The "amenities" were the coffee maker, a box of tissues and a toiletry kit consisting of 2 makeup remover pads and a few Q-tips. On a positive note, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom facilities were highly functional - hot water instantly available, faucets easily adjusted, cold water potable, etc. The bartenders were very bright and engaging - frankly, the highlight of our stay at the hotel. Cost was on the high side, but was the price for the less than 5-minute walk to the train station. Hotel AMANO Grand Central, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel AMANO Grand Central, responded to this review Dear Dincy,Thank you for choosing Hotel AMANO Grand Central and for sharing such thoughtful feedback. It’s great to hear our location by the Hauptbahnhof worked well for you, and that you appreciated the spotless room, comfortable beds, and the well-functioning bathroom. We’re also delighted that our bartenders made a strong impression.I’m sorry that parts of your stay felt impersonal and that noise from the rooftop bar carried to your room on Saturday night. We understand how important a restful and welcoming arrival is, and we’ll keep working on the balance between digital convenience and feeling looked after in person. Your comments about the lobby setup, printed information, and the bedside tablet are very helpful—we’ll review the device reliability and how we share hotel and city info so it’s easy to access without fuss.Regarding in-room amenities, we provide coffee capsules as a one-time welcome, and more are readily available at reception on request. We’ve moved to full-size toiletries to reduce waste, but we want the essentials to feel complete—your note about the amenity kit is noted. Thanks again for giving us such a clear picture of your experience; insights like yours help us align comfort and attentiveness with the standards we aim to uphold. We’d be glad to welcome you back for a smoother, more personable stay—ideally just as convenient, and quieter, next time.Warm regards,The Hotel AMANO Grand Central Team

    Sleepless in Berlin

    rating05 Apr 2026

Our room was on the first floor above the bar. On Friday night the music was blasted until 2 am. I could not sleep. On Saturday morning I complained and our room was moved to the third floor. On Saturday night, the music was not as loud, but the vibrations from the music still could be felt on the third floor and kept me awake. After trying to call the hotel, I sent a text to it's WhatsApp number and an AI response agreed that it was not a tolerable situation and that I should go downstairs and complain to the manager. So, near 1 am and in my PJs and went downstairs and complained to the manager. He said they would turn the music down. But I still could hear and feel it from the third floor and didn't get to sleep until after the music was turned off at 2 am. Thing is, it's a bar. Not a night club. It's a small space. But they blast the music like it's a dance club.A manager (Anastasia), who had moved our room, did profusely apologize for my discomfort and even refunded part of our payment for the two nights. But losing sleep (I averaged 4 hours each night) and getting up tired and unable to enjoy my sightseeing could not be compensated. Also, the tub in the bathroom was very tall and difficult to step into. My daughter had a tough time. She is short. At 5 feet 6 inches, I also had a tough time. At nearly 6 feet, it was even difficult for my husband. Plus, there were no handle bars to help one safely get into the tub. With a glass door that was glued in place, there was no flexibility to enter and exit the tub. This is dangerous and offered no accessibility. Hotel AMANO Grand Central, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel AMANO Grand Central, responded to this review Dear Carol,Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share such a detailed account. I’m truly sorry for the disturbed nights and the frustration you experienced—sleep is essential, and we regret that the bar’s music impacted your rest on both nights.I’m glad our team could offer a room change and tried to reduce the volume, but I understand this did not bring the quiet you needed. Your note about the late-night communication and needing to come down in person is also well taken; the process should feel supportive and effective without adding stress.I’m equally concerned about the bathtub setup you described. The height, fixed glass panel, and lack of grab bars clearly made entry and exit difficult, and your point about safety and accessibility is important. We’re reviewing how we communicate bathroom layouts in advance and how we can better accommodate different mobility needs and preferences.Your feedback is very valuable to us. It helps us balance atmosphere with guest comfort and reassess room allocations, sound management, and safety features to align with the experience we aim to provide. We’d appreciate the chance to welcome you back to Hotel AMANO Grand Central for a quieter, more restful stay. If you consider returning, please reach out ahead of time so we can note preferences and suggest the most suitable room.Warm regards,Your Hotel AMANO Grand Central Team

    Bare minimum, good location

    rating20 Dec 2025

Good location for the main train station and ok rooms. However the hotel skimps on things western travellers are used to. No kettle, No fridge, bare minimum couple of coffee capsules, no milk.Service is non existent as per the self check in and check out. It felt like an Ibis budget. Nate minimum hotel. Just be aware of this and it will suit your needs. Great Location

    rating08 Oct 2025

We spent three nights here while in town for the Berlin Marathon and overall it was a good experience. The public areas and rooms felt clean and well-maintained. The location is great, basically across the street from the central train station, so it's convenient both for arriving/departing Berlin, as well as catching public transit to go elsewhere around the city. You're also a fairly short walk from sights like the Reichstag building or the Brandenburg Gate.A couple of things to note: The bathroom has an odd setup in which only the toilet is truly closed off behind a door. The shower/sink area are separated from the sleeping area by a glass wall, and the shower has a glass door. So while this room worked fine for a couples stay, it could be decidedly awkward if you're traveling with a friend or family member. There are a few restaurants in the ground level of this building. We didn't try any of them (though they looked fine) but at least on Saturday night there was a decent amount of street noise that could be heard from our room on the third floor. Lastly, they encourage the use of a room key app, which is fine, but the app doesn't operate the key-restricted elevator so we had to stop at the front desk to get a key anyway.
