    Utter Nightmare!!!

    rating09 Feb 2026

Location is wonderful. Rooms are nice. Unfortunately, the staff are unbelievably rude and unaccommodating. During breakfast I was berated for asking if I could look at the available tea selection and force marched back to the kitchen where I was shown and summarily scolded to the effect that the varieties are for kitchen staff to know only?! Later I was made to move my room at increased cost-which they could not tell me the total of-late at night and after a busy series of business meetings citing ‘safety reasons’ after telling them one evening beforehand-when my request was pawned off on the morning shift-that my two teenage sons would stay with me the following night. Then they charged me at a higher room rate and for double occupancy! Additionally, both my travel agency and I-on site-informed then I would check out on the 30th, they continued charging me for the 31st, 01st and 02nd claiming both that it had to be done in their system and in person the day of departure despite an inability to do so-in ‘the system’ and informing them of an early morning departure. Moreover, their administrators cited this review as containing offensive content all to ensure their rating remains 4.8! Bottom line, avoid at all costs, there are plenty of other options. Utter nightmare!!!

    Charming and great location

    rating07 Jan 2026

Spent a couple of days here en route to elsewhere for Christmas. Found the staff charming and welcoming (and English speaking), the breakfast acceptable and the location perfect for exploring the neighbourhood. Nice little private car park too, though you need to book a slot in advance.

Charming Hotel in a Charming City

    rating29 Jul 2025

Boutique hotel with beautiful outlook of Brandenburg Gate. Good sized bedrooms, friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Novel way of helping the planet by placing a little bag on your door handle to say you didn't need your towels replaced and room made up. You got a little surprise in the bag as a way to say 'thank you'.

    A disappointing experience

    rating21 Nov 2024

This so-called four-star hotel barely qualifies as a three-star. The property is old, poorly maintained, and in dire need of renovation. My first assigned room (023) on the ground floor was a disaster—smelling of sweat and grease, with a “balcony” that turned out to be a glass door opening into a parking lot. It didn’t even have a proper lock, making it unsafe. After requesting a higher floor, I was moved to a room (300) with filthy carpets, mold in the bathroom, and twin beds so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep, even after a 10-hour flight. Pillows? Flat and unusable. Despite showing photographic proof to the receptionist, I had to wait until the afternoon to change rooms, losing half my day.The third room (301) was marginally better—cleaner carpets but still smelled like sewage mixed with cheap soap, had to keep the window open in cold weather just to air it out , with a broken shower door and a non-functioning telephone so I had to go down to the receptionist if I needed something. Meanwhile, my white colleague was assigned a clean, well-furnished room, in the other side of the building, with a great view from the start. A conversation with another guest, a woman of color, confirmed this pattern—she had also been given a subpar room and was considering leaving the hotel entirely.Room 300, in particular, is unfit for any guest until the carpets are replaced, the walls repainted, and the bathroom properly cleaned. The only redeeming features of this hotel were its convenient location and the breakfast setting—not the food itself, which was repetitive and uninspiring, served with what felt like reheated leftovers every day of my four-night stay. This place is not worth your money—or your dignity. Avoid it. Ihr Team vom Hotel Brandenburger Tor, Sonstige at Hotel Brandenburger Tor Potsdam, responded to this review Dear guest, thank you for sharing your feedback. What could have been!

    rating28 Oct 2024

What a wonderful hotel this could have been! I liked much about this hotel including: breakfast buffet was very delightful with everything you'd think of, but the sparkling wine's one bottle was finished in the first hour and not replaced! And at $25+, that is criminal! Should have offered coffee drinks besides coffee or tea. What? No lattes or cappuccino? Also, I arranged by email, an early check-in, but front desk wouldn't believe me! Not a huge deal, but why would I lie? A four star hotel with cheap toilet paper and worn towels! Terrible internet that kept buffering, so I informed them who said they would send someone, but never did. Beds were too hard, and I like a firm mattress, but not sleeping on a rock! Carpets in room were worn and stained as well! Wanted to switch hotels but waited too long to decide! Oh well! Ihr Team vom Hotel Brandenburger Tor, Sonstige at Hotel Brandenburger Tor Potsdam, responded to this review Dear Guest, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us!We’re glad to hear you enjoyed our breakfast selection and wanted to let you know that we’re always happy to provide cappuccinos and other coffee specialties upon request—your comfort is important to us. We’re truly sorry about the delay in replacing the sparkling wine; with the morning rush, our team simply missed the need for a fresh bottle, and we apologize for the oversight. We’re also very sorry for the inconvenience with the internet connection. We’re actively working on improvements to make sure our guests can enjoy a smooth and reliable experience online. It’s a shame our beds weren’t to your liking. Since we know everyone has different preferences, we do offer a pillow menu, which might help make your stay more comfortable if you decide to visit us again. Thanks once again for your feedback—it really helps us improve, and we hope we can make your next stay a great one!Warm regards, yourTeam at Hotel Brandenburger Tor Potsdam
