  Staff rude, don’t follow up on promises, crap breakfast. Avoid.

  I am absolutely gutted about this experience as I booked the hotel for me and my partner and his best friend and partner for my partners birthday. It was a complete surprise for him so I tried to find a lovely hotel. I emailed in advance in regard to paying extra to having the room decorated for my partners birthday with a birthday banner and a couple of balloons. They emailed and said everything will be organised along with a card and they won’t go over my budget and not to worry about it due to them knowing my room number etc. When we arrived, they denied us bed and breakfast which we had already payed for unless we proved it as it wasn’t on their system. We showed them that we had payed for this and it was sorted but it took a while. We arrived at the room and there was no decorations in the room and no apology that this wasn’t done when agreed. No one in the hotel spoke English including any other residents, the staff spoke very limited. A female member of staff on reception was rude to us and was making faces and comments when we asked for our luggage to be kept in the storage room before departure at the airport. The breakfast was very limited with only eggs and sausages being served under the hot counter. The pictures looked like there was an outside roof top seating but this isn’t the case, it is on the main floor. I thought we had the pool and sauna included in the cost of the hotel but it was an additional £10 per person for one use. We didn’t do this and went to an alternative spa with more facilities but we were really disappointed with this. The room was clean and the bathroom was decorated lovely although our friends bed had black hairs in it when they arrived. Overall, the location wasn’t brilliant and we had to get Ubers everywhere but this was our fault for not looking into it more. I would not return to this hotel again.

  I had an extremely disappointing experience at The Yard Hotel that involved both inadequate service and inappropriate conduct from the front desk person Andreas.Upon checking into my room, I discovered that the Wi-Fi was non-functional throughout the hotel rooms, working only in the lobby area. When I brought this to Andreas's attention, he explained that they had been waiting over a week for replacement components. I expressed my surprise that such a basic amenity remained unresolved for so long.Andreas's response was both unprofessional and offensive. He claimed that "the majority of guests have their own WLAN devices," and when I pointed out that it was unreasonable to expect hotel guests to provide their own internet access, he made several disparaging comments about Americans. He stated several times that "Germans are self-sufficient and Americans aren't," adding that "in Germany we deal with things and Americans just sugarcoat things." He repeatedly contrasted German "self-sufficiency" with American inadequacy.Rather than offering an apology, Andreas blamed me for not bringing my own internet device. His attitude was dismissive and accusatory throughout our interaction. When I requested assistance booking alternative accommodations, he was reluctant and unpleasant.During eight weeks of travel, this was the only instance where I encountered such unprofessional behavior and discriminatory commentary about my nationality.

  A Hygiene Disaster – Completely UnacceptableI stayed here on a business trip and was genuinely shocked by the state of this hotel. The first room I was given looked like it hadn’t seen a cleaner since the 1980s—filthy and clearly neglected.After complaining, I was moved to a so-called “clean” room, only to find disgusting stains all over the toilet. At first, I honestly thought I was being pranked. Staff kept responding with vague reassurances like “Oh no, we will check, yes,” regardless of what I said.The overall level of dirt and lack of basic sanitation was horrifying. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone—avoid at all costs.

  Hidden Hideaway

  Had a wonderful stay for my birthday and really enjoyed this hidden hideaway. The staff were all fantastic, very helpful and attentive and made sure we were enjoying our visit to the city. It's a little bit out the way, but easily accessible via the U-bahn. The hotel itself is great, with fresh feeling rooms, a cosy boutique feel and a fantastic pool and fitness centre with a sauna, which was perfect in the afternoon after sightseeing in cold temperatures! Highly recommend booking this hotel if you're planning a trip to Berlin.

  Dried bogies on the wall & the cleaner puts a ‘do not disturb’ sign on your door to save cleaning the room. And no pool

  We booked this hotel because it had a pool, despite it being far from Berlin centre. When we arrived, we were told by reception that the pool was out of use for 4 months. No one notified us, and it was still being advertised with a pool. We got to the room and there was dried bogies on the wall and then to add insult to injury, we stayed for 3 nights and the room was not cleaned once. We returned on day 3 to a ‘Do not disturb’ sign on the door by the cleaner. I’ve never seen anything like this before and the reception staff didn’t seem surprised or apologetic. We were then told there was no fresh towels. Basically, I paid over 500 for 3 nights in a hotel with a pool, which actually didn’t have a pool, had dried bogies up the wall and the cleaner can’t be bothered to clean the room, which they’re paid to do and I paid for. We contacted booking.com about the issues and they came back to us saying the hotel never bothered replying to them, which doesn’t surprise us at all.
