    What I expected from a 3 star hotel.

    Given some if the other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. Check in way easy and all the front desk staff spoke good English, making up for my poor German. The room was fine. Clean and everything worked. Mine faced away from the main road so was quiet. Breakfast was decent. Location was perfect for the cathedral, station, old town and various sights and museums.I had one issue when, an hour after checking out I was mysteriously charged the room fee twice more on my credit card. I went back to the front desk straightaway and they sorted it out immediately without fuss.It seems that they have implemented an AI driven system for check out which had made this error. I would advise not trying to settle any room bills on this and just do it at the front desk instead. Either way my issue was managed promptly and efficiently.

    Room didn’t seem so bad when we arrived. As we got more settled we only found more things wrong. Dust/cobwebs all over the room. Bathroom full of mould, hairs over walls, bathroom doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned ever. We had to leave the main hotel to access our room which are not easy doors to get in to. The way up to the rooms which are outside have a horrible dirty smell lingering in the hallway. Staff weren’t the friendliest and seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Both times we were at reception no receptionist present.     Do not book! Unsafe and Dirty, Rude Staff Also

    We left on the first night due to the appalling conditions of the “hotel” and behaviour of staff members.This hotel is unsafe, mouldy rooms and certain staff members are extremely rude.On arrival, approximately 9:30-10am, we asked politely to put our cases in the storage room, due to us arriving earlier than check in time. We spoke to a colleague who clearly was not interested in helping us, he uttered a few words, pointing to the door and being very unwelcoming, giving no details about the stay or any kind of standard procedure you would expect with staying at a hotel. We put the bags into the storage room and grabbed a few bits out of the case, because we would be going out for a while, due to check in not being till 3pm. He then proceeded to have a go at us, saying we should be getting things out of our case somewhere else and was ushering us to hurry up. We apologised and said sorry but we didn’t know that we wasn’t allowed to get things out the case in the storage room and said sorry that it caused an inconvenience. After nipping to the toilet, my friend went to fetch her purse out the storage room, as we was handed a card saying “no liability for stolen items”, so as you would understand, we didn’t want to leave valuable items lying about. He then came into the room again, very abruptly and angrily, where my friend turned round and said that she was getting her purse. He stormed off.Once we checked in at 3pm, we were given a key and nothing else. Nothing to sign, no agreement. Once again made to feel very unwelcome, given no check in/ out times, no information whatsoever regarding the hotel, no wifi passwords, absolutely nothing but a key. He showed us to the room, which is a completely separate building to the hotel. (This was never once communicated to us until we were shown to our room.) There was no lift or anything to lift our suitcase up, eventually after a couple of minutes of walking towards the room, he offered to carry my suitcase up the stairs. (Once again no communication that there is no lifts or accessibility needs until we were shown to our room.) This hotel does not accommodate to anyone with accessibility needs whatsoever.Once entering the room, we could smell a fusty/mould damp smell. There is no smoke alarm in the room. You can see the walls are cracking and chipped as a result of mould and damp. The shower curtain looks like it should have been replaced years ago. The extractor fan above the shower is COVERED in dust and mould. The door handles aren’t even fixed on right, the floor is dirty and looks like it hasn’t been cleaned before. There is two small radiators in the whole of the room, therefore meaning the room is absolutely freezing. The cupboards haven’t even been fixed on right.After going out for dinner and arriving back around 9pm, we had then discovered there was no electricity, we couldn’t use the lights, if we wanted a shower we would have had to have one in the dark. We couldn’t charge our phones. We also discovered upon arriving back at the room, that the boiler was leaking, dripping onto the toilet seat. This is highly dangerous. As we discovered this, we reported this to the hotel and left right away due to the unsafeness of the room. We are young girls, from the offset we had been made to feel uncomfortable, unsafe and unwelcome, from a hotel that we had paid our hard earned money to. There were homeless people sleeping outside around the hotel, with doors that don’t even lock properly, this was another concern for our safety. All we have had is bad experiences from the staff, and next we were being offered the hotels only option of 2 single rooms. Why at our young age, would 2 young girls want to stay separate from each-other when we have already been made to feel unsafe. We shouldn’t be made to suffer from an issue that a hotel has created by over subscribing guests and not keeping safety standards upto scratch. We are now experiencing problems with our complaint that we have created, keep being told that they are looking into this. It does not take almost 2 weeks to look into a complaint.     Great location, poor security

    Absolutely perfect location – just a 2-minute walk from the cathedral and Christmas market and a 5 minute walk from the train station. Plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants nearby. The room was basic and quite small, but it was clean and fine for a short stay. There was no air conditioning, so I can imagine the rooms becoming very hot in the warmer months. On the positive side, the shower had great pressure and temperature and we received fresh towels every day. The reception is manned 24/7 and the staff speak English. There is also somewhere to store your luggage upon check out. There was no protective sheet on the mattress, which didn’t feel very hygienic and the rooms are close together. Although I understand this can’t really be helped due to the building layout, it did make the stay noisy at all hours as you can hear every conversation, door bang, and general noise from neighbouring rooms.We also had an issue with the in-room safe. It broke while locked and when we mentioned it to the hotel staff, instead of someone coming to sort this, we were handed the master key that opens all guest safes. This was worrying, as it made us question who else might have access to the safes and how secure guests’ belongings really are. Because of this, we chose not to use the safe at all and instead locked our passports inside our suitcase for the entire stay. Overall, an excellent location but concerns around comfort, noise, and security. I’m not sure what is “boutique” about the hotel apart from the name, which feels a bit misleading.     The location was really good and central, the staff was very helpful as we arrived and the day we left, we were also helped with a taxi back to the airport at short notice. The room was adequate for us as it had all we needed, bed, bathroom and tv.I will say the hotel was too warm for us so windows had to be kept open at night and outside noise was quite loud but expected as a busy city.Tbh we would stay again if ever in Cologne again.
