The location is convenient for public transport but you pay the price, they will keep you up all night. You will pretty much have to have the window open 24/7 as the room is ridiculously hot and the aircon doesn’t work, so you’ll hear the trains, trams, traffic, and most notably the constant ambulances ALL night. Our first night here we had approx 2 hours sleep, woke up to a crane right outside our room window which was lifting glass for the building opposite. I understand had my room been facing the courtyard i’d not of had these issues. Also if you don’t like dogs, i’m not sure what rules apply here regarding animals but day 3 here there was someone with a rottweiler. The room itself is standard, decent bathroom, nice bed. We were given 2 key cards but the cleaner has taken the one we left behind as we only took one out with us. I’m assuming they thought it was their key and took it by mistake. The pool and gym area is decent. I asked reception if there is a hot tub and the lady working replied “yes it is €6 per room” so I paid the fee and headed down to the hot tub to find there actually isn’t one.The lack of sleep has really ruined my cologne experience, in the day when we are exploring the city we are exhausted and just want to go to bed.Overall, if ambulance sirens, trains, traffic and trams are your white noise, you will absolutely love it here, and if you like to sleep in a pool of your own sweat :)

The hotel was good and very clean. My room overlooked the courtyard, so it was nice and quiet. My friends had rooms facing the street, and they mentioned that the trams/trains were a bit noisy in the morning. We ate at the restaurant on the first night — the food was good, though nothing outstanding. The breakfast buffet had a very decent selection, and I can’t say a bad word about it.Overall, the hotel was exceptionally clean. A few things could use some improvement, but generally, it was a pleasant stay.

VERY GOOD FOR THE EXHIBITION CENTRE

    rating06 Jul 2025

Very convenient for the exhibition centre, literally a short walk. Clean and comfortable with an excellent restaurant serving great steak. A buffet breakfast is good starting at 6 am. The lobby bar is a bit slow, with no bar staff on duty, so you have to ask someone to serve you. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

€1,262.64 for one night of sleep (but at least the burger was great)

    rating17 Jun 2025

If you're attending the Interzum Fair in Cologne, the Dorint Hotel Köln Messe seems like the obvious choice — directly across from the fairgrounds, promising pictures on Booking, and advertised comfort. I specifically booked a Superior duplex room because I needed somewhere appropriate to work after exhausting days at the fair. I paid €1,262.64 for three nights. Well, that peace and productivity never came. Night 1: I checked in past midnight. Before heading to my room, I walked about 10 minutes to the train station to grab a quick burger at McDonald’s — dinner of champions. I returned around 1:30 a.m. and finally settled into the room. The room matched the photos: clean, spacious, stylish... and absolutely boiling. I turned on both air conditioners (it's a two-level suite!) and went for a shower, expecting the room to cool down. It didn’t. The sliding bedroom door wouldn’t close either — so I improvised and used a plastic water bottle cap to keep it shut, hoping it would help trap some cool air. It didn’t. By 5 a.m., still unable to sleep, I got up to fetch some leg cream and cut my finger deeply on a razor in the process. Down I went to reception, bleeding and sleepless — the receptionist was kind, oƯered a bandage, and said they’d “look into the AC issue.”At 9:15 a.m., I was at the pharmacy buying a proper dressing and disinfectant. Still no sleep. Night 2: Same story — the room was a furnace. I then discovered that the air conditioning shuts oƯ when the keycard is removed, which explains a lot. After the fair, I returned around 6 p.m. and got some work done downstairs, where the temperature was just barely tolerable. At 8 p.m., I went out for dinner and came back around 9 p.m., resumed working, and at midnight, I headed upstairs to sleep. It was still a sauna. I called reception again. A very polite man came up and — with a straight face — suggested I sleep on the sofa downstairs. I asked if €1,300 for 3 nights entitles me to a couch. He quickly backtracked. At 2 a.m., I was moved to another room. This time, a children’s connecting room — yes, a single bed where my feet stuck out. Light seeped in from the adjacent room. Charming. To top it oƯ, this room faced the street. So naturally, at 3 a.m. and again at 5 a.m., I was treated to full-volume ambulance sirens echoing through the glass. Still no real sleep. Morning 3: I went to reception — again. They were all smiles, but clearly unprepared to oƯer solutions. I insisted on speaking with the manager. To their credit, they finally moved me to a truly exceptional master suite — complete with a dining area and living room. I was finally able to rest for one night. But by then, the damage was done. Two out of three nights ruined, and no oƯer of compensation at checkout. Everything had been prepaid, so... oh well. To be fair:  The staff are genuinely kind (even when clueless).  The hotel is spotlessly clean.  The restaurant deserves praise: I ordered a customised burger with fries (€23.90), a Coke (€3.80) and two espressos (€8) — flavour, presentation and service were excellent. Tips if you still want to stay:  Avoid rooms facing the street — unless you’re into emergency vehicle soundtracks.  Don’t book a “Premium” duplex sauna suite unless you travel with a portable air conditioner.  And most importantly: Don’t expect compensation if things go wrong. If I return for Interzum and consider staying at the Dorint again, it will only be under two strict conditions: 1. A room not facing the street, 2. And an air conditioning unit that works without an engineering degree or prayer
