Location

The Schildergasse, one of Europe's famous shopping zones, is located in Cologne. Cologne is a great destination for shopping lovers since here they can find a wide range of pedestrian arcades, passages and galleries that will satisfy their thirst for shopping. The Cologne hotel has good connections with the public transport system so guests can reach the shopping district as quickly as possible. Cologne - Bonn Airport is situated at a distance of approximately 15 km and Düsseldorf International Airport at around 60 km.

Facility

2 junior suites, 60 single rooms and 98 double rooms are available to guests in a 7-storey main building and a 6-storey auxiliary building. English- and German-speaking staff at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and drinks machine. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. Rooms

    Get somewhere nearer the city.

    Even though we were celebrating our 42nd anniversary they did absolutely nothing. Our first night of 3 was in room 434 right next to a very noisy lift which kept us awake all night. We were moved to 608 the next morning, much quieter. All staff were not friendly and if after 10 pm you’ll be lucky to get served at the bar. They gave us glasses so we could buy beer at the vending machine by the front door. Very poor. Rooms were fine, room 434 had a frosted glass door on the bathroom. All rooms ending 34 are at the lift shaft and you will not get any sleep until the hotel fixes it. Access to city centre is if you turn left out of hotel and walk about 600 mtrs you arrive at Koln Buchforst station. You buy tickets which last 24hrs to use on all trains around Cologne but not on trams or buses at €9 each. You go 2stops to Cologne about 15 mins. Taxi from airport to Leonardo hotel takes about 15 mins and costs about 38 euros, which is by far the easiest way to get there. Entrance to Cologne cathedral is free unless you want a guided tour. River cruises are good to see the city at day and night at 15€ pp at over 65 rates. Beer is expensive as is food. We got the train back to the airport from Buchforst, took about 30 mins at total 18€. S11 to Deutz and change to the S19 to the airport , same platform. Xmas markets, absolutely packed out, don’t expect to walk around quickly it more of a shuffle, and beware of pickpockets. Peters Brauhaus is really good. Be prepared to queue outside in the cold. Goulash with roll for 13.50 is really nice. Small beers at 2.6€ for 200ml. 3 nights is enough as we did it all in 2 days and did 23 miles walking and were both 67!! Been there, won’t be going back to Cologne

    Really disappointing experience. Have been in other Leonardos before but this one utterly failed. First room smelled like someone smoked in it. The second room on the 6th floor could only be reached by stairs. The elevator technical room was just opposite my room and every move of the elevator could be heard. Floors with big stains. Everything worn down. Only highlight was the breakfast and leaving the hotel. The room was not too expensive but yet too expensive for what I got. I say this seldom but will definitly not pick this one ever again.     Originally, booked this hotel for 2 nights from 23rd to 24th May, but missed my flight and then I had to rebook it for 1 night. Contacted hotel via email and asked them if it is possible for them to cancel for 1 night without charging the cancellation fee and they accepted my request. This shows they really care for their guests. Room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed the breakfast as well. Would strongly recommend this hotel to others.     Maybe we got the location wrong, but 15 mins on a tram ain’t central Köln. The area is quite run down, very grey apartment blocks and a motorway surround the hotel.The pool and sauna very cold.The breakfast was very poor.The staff were friendly though, from reception, to the breakfast team to the bar man.Also room was very large and the hotel is very clean.     Loud noises all night, staff typically German poor customer service

    The lift was making loud noises all night long. In order to sleep I had to use earplugs and still I could hear the noise. I had two phones playing white noise on full volume, with my earplugs in and only then I could sleep.The middle eastern? guy at reception with the man bun is not particularly helpful about this - he simply commented that there are no staff on Sundays. The caucasion German? guy at reception with the fuzzy hair is more helpful.Some positives, you get free apples.
