  Perfect Advent Weekend in Cologne

  I stayed in Cologne at the 4th Advent weekend (2025) to meet some of the family members that also arrived to the region for few days.The hotel façade is not impressive (I guess that some colour would help), but the hotel is a well-kept 4+ Star hotel with a consistent professional service and amenities.The hotel was fully booked for that weekend (as the Christmas Markets in Cologne are really something one should visit). The reception area was packed with people, but as it was fully staffed I had to wait less than 5 minutes. I was greeted with a big smile and a very cheerful front desk lady. I guess that as I am a higher tier member of their reward programme, she decided to give me an upgrade (I saw that I was assigned a room in a lower floor, but she switched it to a room in the top floor with a view to the cathedral, which was quite amazing view).The room was huge, with a well appointed working desk, good desk lamp (I had to work for few hours when I came). There was already a seating area. Everything was clean, efficient and in top form.I came back to the hotel late evening after dinner with my family – The bar area was crowded, but the service was excellent. I asked for Old Fashion cocktail with Woodford instead of Maker’s Mark, and the barkeeper was like “Machen Wir”, and they didn’t charge extra.Breakfast was excellent, the egg cooking station was working in full speed, and staff was everywhere. One comment though – The tea section should be a bit better, maybe with proper teapots (but really, all the rest was just very good).It is not a luxury hotel, but it is a perfect business (and also family friendly) hotel, with a decent location (there was a Christmas Market just outside the hotel, and the city centre is available with a 3 or so underground stations ride), and as in many Steigenberger Hotels, old-style hotel service (“Old-Style” on the good side – Professional and full service Hotel).Highly recommended, good value for money.   Great location, but disappointing comfort and noise issues

The room itself was comfortable and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good, with a nice selection, and having on-site parking was definitely a plus.However, overall the hotel did not provide a sense of comfort or luxury that one would expect at this price level. The welcome experience was disappointing, especially at the front desk and reception. The staff were not very helpful and not particularly friendly, which made the hotel feel less welcoming.The biggest issue was the noise level in the room. The sound insulation was extremely poor — street noise came through as if the window was open, and we did not sleep well at all because of this. While the bed itself was comfortable, the noise completely overshadowed that positive aspect.There was a pillow menu, which is a nice idea, but unfortunately the pillows we requested were not available.In summary, while the location and some basic features are good, I do not feel the service and overall experience were worth the price paid. For this price range, better value and a more comfortable stay can be found elsewhere.   This is a basic hotel, which is very centrally located in the heart of Colon. The rooms are quality, but nothing lavish. There are some nice views from both sides of the hotel. The HVAC system was not accommodating many of our gas. The hotel lobby bar is sufficient there is a grab and golocation for drinks and snacks. It’s just not quite up to standard. There’s certain issues throughout the hotel. the breakfast was nice so it almost could be a four star.   Stylish and comfortable stay in central cologne – with a few minor flaws

  The Steigenberger Hotel Cologne offers a relatively central location and impresses with its stylish and modern interior. The atmosphere is appealing, and the bar is definitely worth mentioning. There are enough elevators, so waiting times are not an issue. Overall, the hotel is very clean and well-maintained.The rooms are beautifully designed and provide a high level of comfort. A particular highlight is the air conditioning system – it actually works and comes with a short, easy-to-understand manual. A coffee machine is available in the room, although the minibar is empty.The staff are professional and matter-of-fact – not overly warm, but consistently competent. The food at the restaurant is of good quality. A downside: the room service line was not reachable by phone.A clever feature is the small self-service shop in the lobby, offering drinks, snacks, and essentials guests might have forgotten.The hotel is worth the price!
