  SEVERE SECURITY BREACH: Intruder in My Room, Hacked Lock, and IHG Offered €5. (Case ID: 10580344073)

  This review is intended to inform future guests about a major security failure and how IHG responded to a serious incident at the Holiday Inn Express Wuppertal, Germany.​I rarely write reviews this long, but what I experienced was horrifying and unacceptable. I returned to my assigned room late one night, opened the door with my key card, and discovered a non-guest intruder—half-naked and intoxicated—lying on my bed. Reception was informed and Police were immediately called, interviewed me, and detained the man. The hotel staff confirmed that the door lock system had been hacked or experienced a security failure, allowing the intruder access.​I must commend the Front Office Staff who were on duty. They handled the immediate emergency with professionalism and genuine concern including moving me to a new room, doing their very best with a situation far beyond their authority.​However, the trauma was compounded by the Management's total failure:​Managerial Silence: No hotel manager contacted me for over 24 hours to check on my well-being, apologize, or offer support. This demonstrates a shocking failure of duty of care and accountability by the executive team.​Corporate Insult: I escalated this severe security failure to IHG Corporate Guest Relations (Case ID: 10580344073). Their final resolution was an insulting offer of 5,000 IHG One Rewards points, valued at approximately €5 to €10.​Conclusion​My loyalty as an IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite member and my safety were valued by the standard IHG process at less than the price of a cup of coffee. I share this experience so future guests understand that while the frontline staff are excellent, when a crisis occurs, the managerial and corporate structure fails completely.   Newly built hotel next to the central station. Everything looks brand new and clean. Comfortable room. Free breakfast was plentiful and refilled timely. Lots of seating as well.Hotel parking was small and fully booked when I arrived - so parked at Parkhaus Bundesallee P1 across the river just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Turned out as a huge modern parking, several floors, fully digital and just 4 EUR per calendar day (i.e. come in afternoon, leave next day = 8 EUR).

  Disappointed by Sofa Bed in Family Room (Room 409)

  I stayed at Holiday Inn Express Wuppertal - Hauptbahnhof from July 11–13, 2025, in Room 409 with my wife and two children. While the staff were generally polite, the sofa bed provided for the extra guest was extremely uncomfortable. I had to sleep on it with my son, and I could barely rest.On July 12th, I asked the receptionist if a better mattress or an alternative room was available. Unfortunately, I was told the hotel was fully booked and no mattress replacement could be provided.This was a family room, and I expected better sleeping arrangements. I’m writing this to inform the hotel and to advise families to double-check the bed situation before booking.   The Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Wuppertal is located in the train station district, directly opposite the suspended railway station. There are a few unclear parking spaces right in front of the hotel entrance, but it is better to park your car in the train station's monitored parking lot, which is open 24/7 for a flat rate of €12 per 24 hours or €1 per hour. The reception is open 24/7, with a receptionist always available to assist you.The room rate includes a self-service breakfast. The room is modern and contemporary, well-heated during winter, and features a bright bathroom. The bed is comfortable. The self-service breakfast is convenient and enjoyable. The hotel, in general, is clean and well-maintained. The rooms are always thoroughly cleaned and tidied daily.A big thank you to the housekeeping team and the breakfast service staff. The Holiday Inn Express is twice as good as its counterparts in the express hotel category.

  Great Place to Stay, Especially If You're In Town for the Schwebebahn

  The Holiday Inn Express Wuppertal is a fantastic place to stay, especially if you're in town to experience the Wuppertal Schwebebahn. The hotel is located a short walk from both the main train station and the Schwebebahn hub. It's also located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and neighborhoods worth exploring.The rooms, while perhaps a bit smaller than what one might expect in America, are clean, comfortable, and functional. The staff were friendly and accommodating, as well. Finally, breakfast is a true highlight, with fresh pastries, cereals, cold cuts, pancakes, fruit, nice coffee, and more.The Holiday Inn Express Wuppertal provides fantastic value for money, and I would absolutely recommend it to those who find themselves in the charming city of Wuppertal.
