    room not so spacious

    rating05 Jun 2025

we spent one night on our trip to Denmark in this hotel. welcome by the reception was very cool. there is only one small lift to take your luggage to the room. room and bath room is small with no airco. breakfast buffet is very good. as the name of the hotel says it is vey close to the harbour. Sarah Grünthal, Gästeservice/Empfang at Hotel Hafen Hamburg, responded to this review Dear Arno P,We're glad you visited us on your trip to Denmark and took the time to give us your feedback. We're delighted that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet and appreciated the proximity to the harbor. We regret that your impression of the room, as well as the size of the bathroom and the elevator, did not meet your expectations. Our rooms vary in layout and size. Please contact us directly if you plan to stay again – we will find the perfect room for you.We would also like to apologize for the lack of air conditioning. This can be challenging, especially in warmer months. Our sister hotel, the Empire Riverside Hotel, which is within walking distance, only has air-conditioned rooms. We would be delighted to welcome you again and hope to make your next visit even more pleasant.Best regards from the Port of HamburgSarah from the Guest Relations Team

    Average stay

    rating25 Sept 2024

Hotels in Hamburg were expensive during my stay, and this was no exception. I did not see before I booked that to access the hotel you have to walk 100 stairs up from the harbour side station. That or go to another station and walk past a homeless hostel near the Reeperbahn where lots of men were sitting drinking and waiting for the hostel to open. I think this needs to be better publicised before booking. I checked in early as I had arrived early and there was a charge of 40 euros for this but I was tired and wanted to get settled before going out exploring. Finding the front door of the hotel was a challenge as there were building works going on where the 100 stairs ended and that door was blocked so I was directed around the outside of the hotel by a staff member. They said they had upgraded me from a Captain’s room to a family room but I also heard them telling the same thing to the next two people to check in so it was hard to feel special. The room was very large (for one person!) with a view of the other block of hotel rooms. It would have been nice to look over the harbour but I guess this is another extra charge. It was quite old fashioned and appeared to have been remodeled in the 80s using lots of wood panelling. But not updated since. When I got to the room the TV was not working, nor was the desk lamp. I reported them both and the TV was fixed. The only English language channels were several news channels including BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera and CNBC. And the TV did not allow screen mirroring so I watched stuff on my iPad. The lamp was not fixed until I complained again on the second day. As this was the nearest light source to the desk, it was annoying. There was a bath in the bathroom with a shower over it and the room and the bathroom were both clean. Although the towels could be larger and newer, they were quite small and frayed. There was a mini fridge and safe in the room but no kettle. Fortunately I had my travel kettle with me. There was plenty of hanging space including a separate space for coats. It was not possible to control the heating in the room and it was a bit hot for me. My stay was just OK but if I return to Hamburg I will be giving another hotel a try in the hope of finding one that focuses on the quality of their offering, this one appears to be just focused on getting money out of the guests for the minimum return.

    Amazing Hotel Hafen

    rating29 Jun 2024

My husband and I have now stayed at Hotel Hafen three times during the last three years. Now this last time with our baby son. And it's about time to give an review to this amazing hotel. The beds are just the best I've ever slept in. Our little boy got his own bed with nice decorations and even a small gift when we arrived. The hotel is clean and neat. The Staff is friendly and we only have good things to say about Hotel Hafen. It's just a short walk from the Reeperbahn and the landungsbrücken. You've got shops, restaurants, pub's and everything you need right outside. We will definetly be back at Hotel Hafen. Best regards Belinda and Peter Schille. Sarah Grünthal, Gästeservice/Empfang at Hotel Hafen Hamburg, responded to this review Dear Mr. & Mrs. Schille,Thank you very much for your wonderful review and your loyalty to our Hotel Hafen. We are delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us so much and that your little son also felt comfortable. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back soon.Best wishesYours, Sarah from the Guest Relations Team

    Absolute Misery!

    rating16 Aug 2023

Absolute MISERY! Do not believe them at reception when they say they are up grading you. No this is a ticket to the tower and there the rooms are tight, there is no, and I mean NO AIR circulation in these room unless you open the windows. The vent next to the bed, and the dials to control the temperature do not do anything! Pure decoration! Because you want to breath and relieve yourself from sweating you will open the windows to lovely sounds of the trams screeching at the curve every 15 minutes, cars buzzing contantly, and the ambulance sirens of the hospital near by. We even had the pleaure of hearing an impromtu party in the park below our window in the middle of the night, and the staff cleaning the garbage cans with a pressure cleaner at 1am. A hotel room should be somewhere you can go back and relax after a day of being out in about. If you desire this do not book a room here. It is hot loud MISERY! Sarah Grünthal, Gästeservice/Empfang at Hotel Hafen Hamburg, responded to this review Dear guest,We would like to apologize for the noise and heat in your room.Always feel free to approach the reception staff and we will be happy to offer you another room.We hope you had a nice time in our hanseatic city. With kind regards from the WaterkantYour Guest Relations Team
