    The staff and location make this hotel special

    An overall pleasant stay with some very good pros and improvements needed: The good bits: The staff were brilliant, from the reception desk to cleaners, restaurant and bar staff and the kitchen. The restaurant and piano bar were nice and the food I would stay is excellent (I loved the white asparagus special). It is child friendly and we travelled with two older children. It has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. The location is excellent with many bars shops and restaurants and an easy walk to the trains. Improvements needed to the facilities:The pool was closed and has been for some time it would have been nicer to have this especially for a family. There is no air con and the ventilation in the room was poor. We were sent a fan which helped but the room constantly felt stuffy and disrupted our sleep at night. The cleaning was exceptional but they often didn’t replace water glasses or mugs as part of the clean and we had to ask for these. The cool box in the room is the same as most Marriott’s we have stayed in and does not keep things cold so food perishes quickly and drinks aren’t cold which would have been nice since it was so hot when we visited. This is a general Marriott issue. Overall I would recommend and return, and I thank the staff who really made our Hamburg experience a happy one.

    Centrally located in a good spot in city center

    My first time staying at Hamburg Marriot. Agreed with most other reviews - hotel is in a great location and within easy walking distance to all the nice spots in city center. Got a nice guestroom on the top floor where I had easy access to executive lounge. Guestroom is of decent size with very pleasant and modern decor. Staff is polite and professional - my check-in/check-out process is quick and efficient.I do, however, echo with the complaints about breakfast room being chaotic and unorganized - too many people trying to cramp into a limited space every morning. Just to be fair, the breakroom is not really small, but the problem is when you have everyone wants to go into the space for breakfast with the all food/drink set in the middle of walkaway, it makes moving around extremely challenging. I struggled to find a table for two days and decided to give up fighting for the remaining days. Executive lounge is also of similar situation - space is very limited and too many people are trying to go in there during happy hours so the traffic is super heavy. Other than the breakfast chaos, I must admit I quite enjoy my stay at the Hamburg Marriott. I previously stayed at the Renaissance and loved that hotel but in the future, I would be happy to consider Marriott as well.

    They overestimated themselves

    Fantastic location, large and clean rooms. Unfortunately, there was no shelf space or hooks in the bathroom, the shower was slippery, and the walls were veeeeery thin. The organization was chaotic: too many guests in the breakfast room, which was far too small, so we had to queue every morning. The rooms were packed, while the staff bustled around trying to clear tables and restock dishes.     No pool and bad air-quality in room on top floor

    Booked through a central booking service and specifically asked whether the pool was open, which was confirmed. The day before arrival, however, we were informed by email that the pool was closed. We asked for price compensation or an upgrade, but only received a few bonus points along with free cancellation, which we already had.Our room on the top floor (a standard room) had no working air conditioning and the window was locked, resulting in very poor air quality. Be careful when booking rooms on this floor, as the air can be unpleasant if the air conditioning is not working.Breakfast and other amenities were good.     While the hotel doesn’t have a standout “wow” factor, it delivers consistently where it matters. Service is efficient and friendly, and the room was quiet and comfortably sized—aside from the occasional door noise from other guests, which isn’t the hotel’s fault. Housekeeping was excellent throughout. Complimentary glass water bottles were a nice touch. Breakfast was a highlight, with a wide selection including fresh fruits, cheeses, seeds, nuts, and pastries. The egg station, in particular, stood out thanks to the great chef. The location is another strong point—very walkable, close to the lake and shopping/restaurants, even to Elbphilharmonie in less than 25min, with the metro only needed for the airport.
