  WARNING!!!!!! DO NOT BOOK!

  I booked Novum Hotel Hamburg Stadtzentrum through Opodo and later found it’s in a red light area with shared bathrooms, which wasn’t made clear. When I tried to cancel, or move hotels within the group, both Opodo and the hotel and their reservation team, kept passing me back and forth - spent hours on the phone! No one took responsibility. I booked a Premier Inn and lost my Novum hotel payment. Very disappointing — I’d avoid booking with Opodo or Novum Hotels in future.

  Lying manager and rooms full of mould

  Awful hotel and surroundings. The hotelrooms were full of mould and smell. We and two other families were promised a refund by the manager when we said it wasn't possible for us to stay in there, but when we applied for refund later they never responded so we had to pay even though we didn't stay there. We tried to take it through travellink, where we booked our stay, but they didn't managed to get a refund for us. Outside the hotel people were using needles to get to heaven so very unpleasent to walk through the streets.

  Basic hotel on a terrible street

  Should have read reviews before we booked, hindsight’s a wonderful thing! Took us a while to find the hotel as Google maps wasn’t picking it up but eventually we got there, we were a bit put off by the massive sex shop next door but laughed it off. Room was very basic but luckily we had a relatively clean room, which from the reviews I’m reading there wasn’t many, so thank god! Except the carpets, many questionable stains. Breakfast was a nice touch, probably the only reason I’ve given 2 stars and not 1. Very out dated but for the price we thought it would do, we just wanted a cheap place for a couple nights, you get what you pay for, right? This ‘stay positive it could be worse’ mind set quickly diminished at sundown, it was like every hobo, prostitute, drunk and druggie in the city flocked to that particular street as soon as it went dark. It was awful, thankfully I was with my boyfriend but we always made sure we were back in the room before 9-10pm as after that it was like GTA. Police sirens none stop ALL night, fights, shouting and bottles smashing, we watched out the window as police in riot gear were taking people down each night. The noise was unbearable and it lasted right up until around 5-6am. I’ve never seen anything like it, very intimidating, especially when you have to wait to be buzzed in at the door you can’t just use your card to get in, so every night you’re basically just stood with a load of prostitutes outside while people smacked off their face are fighting infront of you and you’re just hoping you don’t get caught in the middle. Very unsafe. I get that the hotel can’t help what happens on the street and it’s not their fault, I’m just stating what the area is like so others can be warned. In the day time it’s like a whole different street, loads of shops and markets and people going about their day, very busy, but a normal street. Then the night comes and it’s like Gotham when Batman’s away. If I weren’t with my boyfriend and I was with friends instead, I wouldn’t have stayed more than the first night as I wouldn’t have felt safe coming in and out of the hotel.

  Very disappointed!

  Dear friends,Unfortunately it was very disappointing.From moulds in the bathroom as well as in the room.The carpet so stained that we had to keep shoes on even to go to the bathroom.It was disgusting. No air conditioning, no fridge.The breakfast was ok, but every second day the bread rolls tasted from previous day, left over - very hard. The staff are very nice and helpful.The location is very good.The reviews scared us but the people were so polite, nice and very kind, as they said the area is not safe.We felt extremely safe - 2 ladies!You just need to be open to different nationalities and experience interactions.Restaurants, supermarkets and fresh fruits, bakeries are plenty.The main train station is near by - 5 min walk.Our advice - choose a better hotel in the area.

  We got to the hotel. Man at reception said that was an issue with our room and told us to go to another one of the hotels down the road. This new hotel was much more welcoming inside with a proper lobby, friendly staff and nice rooms. Lucky us! :)The hotel that I’m writing the review on looked like a cheap and not so cheerful place. Although, I didn’t get past reception so maybe the rooms & bar area is nice. The area it’s in however is a dodgy area, especially at night. Wasn’t the worst problem as we just used Uber taxi from the front of the hotel to the city centre. But if you’re looking for a hotel you can walk to and from, probably best to pick a hotel that’s the other side of the train station (more central).
