    It’s slipped and needs to be more transparent

    -We’ve stayed at the Maximilian before and broadly enjoyed it again — central location, comfortable apartment, courteous reception. As hoteliers ourselves, a few honest observations-1. At circa €300 a night, €30 per head for a modest, ordinary buffet is excessive. The pre-purchase option wasn’t visibly offered on Booking.com, so we paid the walk-in rate. When we politely raised it on departure, we were told it was “standard.” It isn’t — and it has risen sharply since our last stay. By comparison, the Platzl — widely rated one of the Altstadt’s best breakfasts — sits below the Maximilian’s rate, Hotel Torbräu charges €25, the Mercure Altstadt bundles it in at €18, and even the 5-star Louis Hotel is €39 à la carte for a markedly superior spread.2. The biggest issue — and not disclosed at booking — the hotel is currently surrounded by active construction (Marienhof / 2nd S-Bahn works), running even on Sundays.Would we return? Possibly — but we’d skip breakfast and check the construction status first. More transparency required.
