Hotel near the station
01 Jun 2026
The hotel is very convenient for Munich station, being only a 5 minute walk, but means a 25 minute walk into the city centre. The staff were all warm and welcoming, and when we found there was an issue with the booking, they accommodated the booking change without any fuss. Our room was compact but comfortable, with a small internal balcony. The hotel operate a climate friendly policy of not cleaning the rooms during short stays, and providing a station where you can obtain replacement towels and bathroom supplies when needed. This, together with the lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room made it feel a bit more like a b’n’b rather than a hotel. Although we did include breakfast which had a good selection.

Called The Police over a tiny spillage of juice. Horrific experience!!
29 May 2026
We had a lovely welcome. They seemed very hospitable. Staff were friendly. Room was basic, but clean and good value for central location. Reception area was lovely. All was going well and we were about to rebook with friends for octoberfest when we came to collect our bags everything changed. We were told that there was red wine on the sheet and mattress. What had actually happened was I managed to squirt a small amount of very dilute raspberry juice across my outfit and the sheet. It came 99% out of my outfit with just plain water. I didn’t bother with the sheet as we were leaving and it would surely be washed anyway? Presumably as there was an empty red wine bottle in the bin they thought they’d jump on the band wagon when it was clearly a dilute pink stain and obviously not wine. Due to their cheap ill fitting mattress protector, which was only covering the top (partly) but not the sides of the mattress and only held on the sides with elastic, it seemed a tiny amount was also on the mattress. Had I realised I’d have got a cloth and Ariel and wiped it totally clean. We are clean and tidy people and always leave rooms in a respectable state. It was a very minor spillage The receptionist told me he was charging me 100 euros. He initially said this was for the washing of the sheets. I questioned several times were they not going to be washed anyway? He went on to say that they didn’t have a machine on site and had to send them away. I questioned is that not what you do normally when guests leave? He then said they had to clean the mattress. I said I’d do it. I got my outfit out and showed him the same barely visible stain on my outfit and said how easy it came clean. I asked him to take me to the room and if it didn’t come out then ok. Suddenly, he said they had had to change the entire mattress. I did not believe this. He told me I needed to pay or he’d call the police. I reiterated I was not prepared to pay an unreasonable charge. It wasn’t red wine, beer or sick from carelessness or drunkenness. He was being rude and wouldn’t even let me speak. He said there were new guests in the room. Within less than two minutes of the conversation he’d called the police. His colleague came along to try settle matters. He was a lot calmer and much more courteous to be fair and said he’d take me up to the room to look at it and try wipe it off, not realising that his colleague had just told me that they had changed the entire mattress so in other words he definitely was lying. There is no way they would’ve changed it for that.By this time four police officers had arrived within five minutes of him calling them. I was not abusive or aggressive, simply refused the charge it was unreasonable. I showed two of the police my outfit which had the juice spillage, wiped with plain water. It took her a minute to even see it. The police lady was lovely. I explained to her that I had a sight condition and had spilt it in error. She looked at me bewildered. Her and her colleague went to speak to the receptionist and came back and said there was no charge, but that we had to leave immediately and not return. That was stating the obvious!!! I videoed how rude he was and how I tried to calmly explain what had happened. He was just shouting over me. We also have videos of the police telling us he’d dropped the fee after speaking to the hotel manager. I really do believe they were trying it on. I have attached a photo of the same spill on my outfit wiped off with plain water. If you look very closely you can see it. Beware. If you don’t want to be surrounded by police for a minor juice spillage, best avoid this place!!! Shame as otherwise nice and we would have returned.

Dear Guest, thank you for taking the time to share your experience.First of all, we would like to say that we can absolutely understand your frustration regarding how the situation unfolded. We genuinely regret that an otherwise pleasant stay ended on such a negative note. However, we would also like to explain our perspective. When our housekeeping team discovered the stain, we did not know whether it was blood, red wine, raspberry juice, or another substance. Certain stains, particularly red wine, can require special treatment by our external laundry service and, in some cases, may permanently damage bedding and mattresses, resulting in replacement costs.A brief mention at check-out that an accidental spill had occurred and that it was raspberry juice would have helped us significantly. It would have allowed us to assess the situation correctly from the outset and would likely have changed the entire course of events. Unfortunately, without any information, we first had to investigate the matter ourselves and make assumptions, as we are not always able to immediately identify the nature of every stain. That said, we fully agree that the communication on the evening in question was not handled appropriately. We do not condone the behaviour you described and will discuss the incident internally with the colleague involved. At the same time, as management was not present during the conversation, we cannot objectively determine whether the situation escalated solely from one side or whether emotions unfortunately intensified the discussion on both sides. What makes the outcome particularly unfortunate is that your check-in, your stay, and all previous interactions had been entirely positive. We sincerely regret that the final impression was overshadowed by this incident. We would also like to point out that despite the additional work and investigation required on our side, no charges were ultimately applied. Our intention was never to create an unpleasant experience, but rather to clarify a situation where the extent and cause of the stain were initially unclear. We regret the way this matter concluded and wish you all the best for your future travels.Kind regardsPaula

A wonderful stay at the Hotel Metropol
23 May 2026
The hotel Metropol is a unique Boutique Hotel. Like much of Europe the rooms are compact, but the space is used smartly. The beds are comfortable, it was clean, the staff friendly and I would urge anyone booking to book with breakfast. It is a bargain, perhaps one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve had. One thing to note this is not like an American hotel. Do not expect your rooms to be made up daily. But do expect to have any amenity that you need. I would highly recommend when you are in Munich to consider a stay at the hotel Metropol.
