I had booked via Agoda a family room at this hotel for 2 Adults and 2 teens for 1 night in october. We were not given a room at the main building which is supposed to be the 4 star hotel but at the seperate building behind called TopplerHaus and on the signboard it had 3 stars instead. I didn't book direct but rather via a 3rd party , therefore it could be Agoda's platform misrepresentation. So perhaps if anyone else wants to book, perhaps email the hotel to enquire whether you will be at the main building or at TopplerHaus instead? Or book direct. :) That said, as it was only 1 night and the room; it was like 2 rooms but connected via a door with only 1 main door ( so it's not 2 interconnecting rooms); the room was decent, clean and no complaints about it. The stay was uneventful which is good. BAthroom was small but not an issue. Main thing is cleanliness which was fine. Overall the room was comfortable and nice enough for 1 nights stay.Booking came with Breakfast and I have to say the breakfast ( which was in the main building) was in comparison to other places pretty good and a much bigger spread that the other 4 star hotels I was staying at. So thumbs up for the breakfast. Keep this up! Breakfast room was rather crowded and I was staying during an off shoulder season.. I cannot imagine if it's peak season then the breakfast room would be even worse in terms of people waiting to be seated. So come early for breakfast ( we went at about 8.30am to 9am and it was already pretty packed) if you stay here during the peak travel season. Location of this hotel is a win. IT is RIGHT OUTSIDE the city walls, so you can walk straight in, climb up the steps and start walking the famous city walls of Rothenburg Aub der Tauber and anywhere else honestly. Parking at the hotel is free and they have tons of parking behind so not a problem. This is anther plus!Do I recommend this place for Rothenburg? Yes For sure! Just get to the bfast buffet early!

This is our fourth stay at the Rappen in Rothenburg. It is a lovely hotel, very clean, beautiful breakfast room! Very conveniently located! I will say that the hotel staff was not quite as friendly as in past years.

Excellent location and experience

The location is great-just outside the old medieval city of Rothenburg ob den Tauber. This make sit super-easy to use it as a base to explore the surrounds. The hotel is a mix of 3 and 4 star rooms, which can be quite different. Even in the 4-star wing, they have (standard) superior rooms (an oxymoron if there was one) and what looked like an upgraded variety (plusher, with more modern furnishings). We stayed in a (standard) superior room: fairly large, clean, well maintained. The toliets were good (finally an exhaust in a European hotel that audibly starts working as soon as the light is switched on!). The beds were a bit soft for our liking, but I believe they are the same in all room types. The air conditioning (split air conditioners in every room) worked a little too well. The Reception staff are multi-lingual and very helpful. The breakfast was impressive, in a huge, modern room with a full German spread and prompt replenishments with typical German efficiency. The full gamut of breads, teas, hams and a hot section with Nuremberg sausages, pancakes and the like. There was a live counter for eggs too, but the lady at the counter looked very, very uninterested in making them; a little friendliness-training wouldn't be out of place, as she was almost shouted at by a few German guests). The hotel has a couple of local restaurants in the premises, which serve steaks and typical Franconian cuisine - all excellent quality, with very friendly serving staff. The local beer was good but not chilled enough. The pork shank (a local special the way it is made) was one of the best we'd tasted in Germany. Surprisingly, even the fish was good. A few chicken dishes may have helped. There were options for children too, and lots of flexibility.Parking's free behind the hotel (their private area shared with a few neighbours), plenty of space.A mid-size shopping mall is a 6 minute easy walk-this houses a huge Kaufland department store. The hotel is located just next to the Gallows Gate, one of the 6 gates to the city. It was a pleasure climbing the city walls so easily and walking back from the old city.Overall a lovely experience-we wouldn't look anywhere else to stay when we're back next.

We booked last minute after having to modify our trip. Planned on and paid for a triple economy and they upgraded us to a junior suite at no cost. Hotel was super clean and the breakfast was excellent. There is free parking behind the hotel in front of the TopplerHaus. Can’t recommend enough!
