  No need to look any further!

  We found this hotel through a friend and will be recommending it to anyone coming to Athens. We stayed a few days and then did an overnight on an island and back to the Modernist. When we got back our bags, which they held for us, were in our room and we felt like we had come home. Despina and Dimitris , as well as all the other staff we met were helpful, friendly and simply a delight. The breakfast was excellent. The two different rooms we had were extremely clean and comfortable. The location was perfect- quiet area, a very short walk to the metro And one stop or a 15 minute walk to the center of the city. Our stay in Athens was extra special because of the Modernist and their staff. The Modernist team, Other at The Modernist Athens, responded to this review Dear Alan, thank you for this lovely review.   Should have reviewed earlier but still want to share. I was in the hotel for several nights and had a wonderful experience. Very friendly and professional staff, clean rooms and an excellent location very close to transit. Wide selection of fresh items at breakfast - most enjoyable was the apparently locally-produced and plentiful Greek yogurt. Also enjoyed a tasting of Greek wines on the top floor patio. The finishing touch was a to go breakfast for my early trip to the airport as I departed. One of my favorite hotel stays in any city!   Stayed four days at the Modernist during a recent trip to Athens.The hotel is a little out of the centre around a 15 minute walk to Syntagma Square, but just a couple of minutes from the Evangelismos metro stop. National Gallery literally across the road. Plenty of restuarants, cafes etc in the streets around the hotel. So a bit quieter and less hectic than staying in the very centre, but with a lot of benefits from being just that little bit removed. A relaxing oasis to return to at the end of a busy day.We has a "large" room on the second floor. Well presented and spotlessly clean. Two terraces though to have a view across the city you'd need to be on a higher floor. Very comfortable bed, storage space perhaps a bit limited. Very good range of lighting, and very efficient aircon. Large shower in ensuite with both waterfall and hand held shower attachment. A very good shower. Nice fluffy towels. Housekeeping did a fantastic job every day and we returned to an immaculate room. One thing the hotel might want to think about is a vanity mirror and power socket - a brilliant hair dryer is provided, but would be great to be able to dry and style in the bedroom rather than the bathroom.Our sons has a "medium" room on the fifth floor which did have the views across the city and over to the port and island beyond.So a "large" room on one of the two highest floors probably the best choice if available.Reception team really excellent, friendly and helpful with restaurant / eating recommendations, making reservations etc.Good breakfast buffet, though slightly strange arrangement with guests needing to chase down staff to order a coffee, or something from the cook to order menu. Though this did get better during the second half of our stay. Food from the cook to order menu was very good, as indeed was the food from the buffet - just a slight mismatch with the service on those first two mornings. One of our party was a ceoliac and the offering (with nothing obviously gluten free in the buffet beyond fruits, meats etc) was a challenge. Perhaps a link up with the Marinos Kosmas bakery? In the grand scheme of things not a huge problem and certainly did not spoil our stay.The rooftop bar provides fantastic views, including across to the Acropolis, and some very comfortable seating. Great staff. Worth noting the hotel lift only goes as far as the sixth floor, not the seventh floor where the rooftop bar is situated. Stylish twisting staircase to access it which might benefit from a handrail. Still a great location to unwind at the end of the day with a cocktail or glass of wine. Two of our party also tried the hot dog one evening which was also very well received.Overall very pleased with our choice of the Modernist as the hotel for our stay in Athens.   A good option in Athens

  Good:The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and the staff were really nice!Breakfast was great. Not a huge variety, but the food was very tasty, nicely served, and the staff was great. A wide variety of yogurt options and excellent coffee.The beds and shower were great.Rooftop with a great view of the AcropolisBad:Location - it is not in the center, but it is just near public transportation and have many nice places to eat and enjoy at night.Room - we had a very tiny room with a window facing a wall. Since we spend only one night, it did not bother us, but make sure you have a balcony in the room (these rooms look much better)Overall, a very good option, unless the small room, with no window, I would give it 5 (assuming you are good with not being in the center) The Modernist team, Other at The Modernist Athens, responded to this review Dear 33el123, thank you for your kind words.   Dog-loving, amazing stay!

  There are dog friendly hotels and there is the Modernist. Which is dog-welcoming, cosy and truly loving towards pets. The staff is just great, thank you Asproula, Zoe, Ioanna, Pavlos, Charis, Spyros, Aristea and Smaragda! As for the amenities, so well thought-of that when I got back home I thought of rearranging my apartment to make it as functional as the Modernist room. Small details are my favourite part and they were all so amazing: the yoga mat, the amazing corridor smell, the branded cups and the mini bar which is seriously top level. As for the breakfast: unreal. My dog had a real hard timing leaving the fluffy bed that was arranged for her, but she is now happy with her new scarf that we found as a gift in the room, as it was her bday!
