Great looking hotel. Rooms and service let it down

    rating05 May 2026

This First part of the review is for the spa only. ***** Five stars for the spa *****I had a back massage from Bahija who was amazing. Understood exactly where I needed attention and gave one of the best massages I have had. Bahija Was incredible. With regard to hotel overall just three stars *** - it is beautiful. It looks and feels luxurious. The pool area and the gardens are magnificent, however the general staff need plenty of training. My safe (in the room) Was broken and nobody seemed to care until I complained at front desk. The safe is also not fastened to anything so can easily be removed, And defeats the object of it being there. There is no coffee machine in the room - just two instant sachets. Would not expect this from a hotel that refers to itself as ‘luxury’.No Bluetooth speaker in the room. Instead a vintage Bose speaker that only connects to a 20year old iPod or take CD (see image).Rooms are also very dark. With all the lights on you find yourself using your phone light to find things. The rooms are not suitable for toddlers and are quite basic. Everything in the room is at toddler Height, including the kettle, glasses and tea making facilities are all at toddler height (which is really strange). We have at least an accident a day because of this. The hotel corridors smell of fried food, which is really not nice. The bed is incredibly uncomfortable and not up to my taste. Both myself and my wife wake up multiple times in the night with discomfort. We have a suite and there is no bath and only enough hanging space for one person. There are three draws and few cubby holes. The cleaners that tend to the room are very thorough. Each day the calorie is covered and they leave little roses on my daughter’s bed, which is very cute. They are a fabulous team. The Oasis restaurant looks fantastic, And feels very special but the food is very basic And poorly executed. The ribeye steak was like eating a piece of leather. It was overcooked And a terrible cut of meat. The chicken dish I had was also flavourless. The breakfast is brilliant with lots of fresh produce. A brilliant variety of food with a very good selection of local Choices. This is the highlight. The breakfast is really special In a beautiful dining room That feels elegant classy.

Penny pinching hotel with LOUD party noise next door

    rating01 May 2026

This is a disappointing Sofitel Marrakech. After the fake filthy sofitel in Casablanca, I wanted to give Sofitel Marrakech a chance thinking this cannot be as bad as Casablanca. Arrived at 2pm, looked all grand and staff are all polite. Reception was swift took our passport and swipe my credit card and told us to sit at their sofa as our room will be ready soon. We waited and waited. After 45min, I asked them what happen? They said “checking”. 3pm, I asked them again. They said politely “checking”. I lost my cool, I asked them if the room is being service at all or will we be waiting for another hour? Then I see them really checking now and told me is another half hour as my room is “very big”. I booked a Junior Suite, not a Presidential suite. Also I paid more for Junior suite which meant I was being punished for more waiting time as my “bigger” room takes longer time to clean. BTW this suite interior is ~ 56sqm. Room is typical old-fashioned dated. Black floor tiles and old tired looking carpets. Shower door is hilarious, when you close half-way it bangs on the top of the shower holder. We’ve to adjust it to ensure we can close the shower door. After each shower, the water leaks into outside floor, which is dangerous slippery if you’re not careful as is hard to see. Room 419 which is facing the road and located near the rooftop partying next door hotel is not suitable for anyone who needs a good night sleep. We couldn’t sleep well for all 3 nights here. The party was ridiculously loud and you can hear the music loud and clear till 4am. I seek reception help after 1st night to switch to a quieter room. Reception said all their suites are near the rooftop garden next door. So they’re all noisy. Really? This is also the 1st 5 star hotel which we stayed in a suite who will not top up coffee capsules. They’ll only provide 6 capsules for our entire 3 nights stay here. Breakfast is about quantity not quality. They have so many items on display but if you look closely, sadly not much quality. I’ll rather they focus on smaller quantities and improve in each quality. It has a 24hr gym but the main door is always locked and I’ve to ask the reception every morning to unlock the main door at 5am. What stands out was their confiscation of our wine which we bought at Carrefour for our Atlas mountain trip. Our mountain guide told us to buy the wine at Carrefour to bring to tthe mountains. We did and was stopped by the security guard as guest are not suppose to buy wine or food into Sofitel for consumption. Despite us telling them this is not for consumption here, we’re heading to the mountains after 3 nights with Sofitel. But they couldn’t help behaving like old school petty principles trying to protect their revenue. I’m sure Sofitel will respond and said they are worried about their past guest who bring in fast food and cheap wine or beer. The day before we checked out, I circled out a manager and told her we need the wine back as I’ve to pack for my trekking trip which we have to depart early morning next day. She said no problem. When we came back from our tour. Nothing. I called the reception to please bring the wine up as I need to pack. She said “checking”. After waited an hour, checking didn’t happen. I called again and told the next person if Sofitel has lost our wine? If yes, is fine! Just tell us instead of playing hide and seek and get “so worried” we’ll be drinking in our room. Finally my wine appeared. Sofitel Marrakech looks all grand and welcoming, but is marred by the general manager who set strict old petty rules and so penny pinching to “save cost” for the hotel. AND a poor place to have a good night sleep. I feel sorry for the staff here as there are outstanding staff Johar and Ilham and I can imagine the oppressive managers ruling this place. I’ll never be back in this hotel and will ensure I warn my friends coming to Morocco. AHMED Benkirane, General Manager at Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial & Spa, responded to this review Dear SuperShan,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. Please allow us to sincerely apologize for the disappointments you experienced during your stay, this is certainly not the level of service we strive to deliver, and we are truly sorry that your visit fell short of your expectations.Regarding your check-in wait, we completely understand your frustration, and we sincerely apologize for the lack of proactive communication from our team during that time. This is something we are addressing directly. We are also sorry to hear about the noise disturbance that affected your sleep over three nights. We understand how important rest is, and we regret that we were unable to offer you a more suitable room due to a high occupancy during your stay amoung us.Your comments regarding the room's condition, the gym access, and the coffee capsules have been noted and will be reviewed with the relevant departments. As for the wine incident, we sincerely apologize for the way this situation was handled. While our policy exists to ensure a consistent guest experience, it should always be applied with flexibility, good judgment, and above all, respect for our guests. We are glad to know that Johar and Ilham made a positive impression, we will make sure to pass on your kind words to them.Should you ever wish to give us another opportunity, we would welcome the chance to restore your confidence in us.Warm regards,
