    During our first vacation at Alianthos, we noticed how well this hotel is managed. Many visits later our point of view rests unchanged. Friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble, in short, you feel welcome here. Restaurant Amalthea manages to deliver the best cuisine you could wish for, every year again. All credits to chef Sotiris, who presents refined, flavorful dishes that do NOT become boring after a while.It is with some sadness that we stayed at Alianthos for the last time as we have always known it. Major renovations, including a new building, are planned for this winter.     Alianthos Garden Hotel in Plakias, Crete is a real example of paradise by the sea. Those who experience the long transver are rewarded at journey’s end. The transfer is an opportunity to get to know the island in all her beauty. A sample of greater things.The warmest of greetings at reception is the start of a magical stay. Enjoy a cocktail at Nymphes, the Hotel bar, supplied by friendly staff. Nothing is too much for them to do. Say hello to the visionary owner, Manolis, I like to call him Mr. Plakias. This is a true example of how a family run hotel should be. Enjoy the special Cretan music night and dance away with Athina. You will love it. The Hotel Amalthea restaurant provides a tasty mix of traditional Cretan and Mediteranean cusine.     If the gods smiled in your favor you couldn't have a better experience. From a landscape and architectural design perspective the hotel is beautifully situated giving you curated views of the award winning Plakias beachfront. The choice of flora on the site includes a variety of local plant species mixed with English style hedges. There is a pool, terras and play area outside where you also have lemon and pomegranate trees. This habitat invites owls and other birds to come visit. The courtyard in the center of the hotel respects the existing pine and palm trees and also allows one to keep an eye on your kids in the lobby while relaxing outside. The rooms are clean and the balcony is protected by the trees while also giving a view. They have kids activities planned which gives parents a chance to relax. A couple of nights per week they have traditional music from Crete and those that know the traditional dances lead the way. The staff is super helpful and the owners a beautiful family. A great family vacation. I hope it stays as nice as it grows.     The hotel has a great location in the city center, surrounded by numerous shops and restaurants. The rooms are clean and serviced daily. The view from the window is beautiful, overlooking the mountainous landscape. The food is good, and everyone will find something to enjoy.     Delicious Food, Missing Evening Drinks

    We had half board with breakfast and dinner buffet every day. The food was very good, always fresh and a big choice, also local food. We really enjoyed it!Only small minus: in the evening no free drinks, not even water. That was a bit disappointing.But all in all, nice buffet, friendly staff, and tasty food!
