    Classic Cretan Hospitality

    rating10 May 2026

A lovely, family run hotel with charming hosts and idyllic views. The village is quiet for the area, although perfectly served for tavernas, supermarkets & beaches (a little stony but picturesque nonetheless). The rooms are clean and spacious, maybe a little dated, but cosy and well maintained.

    A lovely time.

If you enjoy old style Cretan hospitality, we think you will love the Antilia Apartments. Stelios & Reena are perfect hosts, relaxed and informal but super attentive in exactly the right way. The room itself was basic but spacious & scrupulously clean, thanks to the attentions of Tina the tireless cleaning lady. The village is probably amongst the quietest along this coastline but had enough amenities to serve us perfectly well. The hill to the apartments might be a challenge if you are walking, but absolutely worth it for the best views we have ever enjoyed in a holiday apartment. They really are very special. We hope to return before too long to hear more about Stelios' years as a disco dancing pirate.

    Antilia Apartments, Dempla, Tavronitis

    rating29 Sept 2025

We had a lovely 2wk stay in Sept. Stelios & Rene are lovely and very helpful. Superb views from our apartment (No.7) to Kolibari in one direction and towards Chania in the other, Air conditioning and safe were included without additional costs. Kitchen and bathroom a bit dated but fully functional. Our apartment was cleaned 6 days out of every 7 by lovely friendly cleaners, also our bed sheets and towels were changed every 3 days, the apartment was very clean. We wanted different bowls and cups in the kitchen and this was supplied within an hour, plus an extra pillow. Our shower head was clogged up only offering a trickle, I asked Rene if she could get it changed and this was promptly done. The walk up from the beach or the town can be a challenge depending on your level of fitness and which route you take, but there is a less steep route up quiet roads between the Olive trees that is easier but in the dark, you may require a torch, we didn't have any issues. We walked to the beach and used the Taverna there for nice traditional food on a couple of occasions, the walk back took us about 20-25 mins (in 28 degs), we are 66 & 74 respectively and reasonably fit. Reception can arrange car hire and trips out to places like Balos & Gramvousa, well worth going there by boat which will also take you to Gramvousa Island that is not accessible by car (advisable not to use a hire car on the dirt road towards Balos as damage will invalidate your car insurance!) The Antilia Apartments gardens are lovingly maintained. We saw Stelios cleaning the pool early in the mornings and a cleaner sweeping up. Stelios comes around the pool for a chat and has a lot of recommendations through his knowledge of places to visit. Rene does the breakfasts which you have under cover next to the pool and she's also available in the reception most of the day. In the town there are Taverna's, a pharmacy, Bakery, Supermarket, hairdressers, ATM and a bus stop where you get the bus to Chania which runs every 20 mins and you pay on board, you can also travel in the opposite direction to Kolimbari (5km) and this also runs every 20 mins or you can walk there along the footpath at the roadside, we did and it took us an hour, but we got a taxi back for 12 euro, but we had also walked another 2km further on to the Monastery and fed the tame deer opposite. We walked to Spilia (means Cave in Greek), it took us one hour along back roads using Google maps, well worth visiting for it's Cave Church, also two nice Tavernas. Close to Spilia at Vouves there's the old (at least 2000 years depending on which article you read) Olive Tree, small museum and cafe selling traditional cakes and local products. Our arrival at Chania Airport; we had an airport transfer booked though the holiday package provider, unfortunately it went wrong on the drop off and collection; the coach cannot get up to the apartments and we ended up in Kolimbari 5km away where the driver had to call a taxi to take us back to the Antilia Apts, this was paid for by the transfer company TLT, then there was confusion over our pick up from the apartments, two emails arrived one saying collection from the apartments, the other saying collection from Tavronitis, we waited at the apartments but no taxi arrived to take us down the steep hill, so Rene took us in her car to where the coach was waiting. We would love to return to the Antilia Apts for the hospitality, cleanliness', helpfulness and lovely views. Efcharisto everyone at Antilia Apartments.

    Great stay

    rating24 Sept 2025

Great apartments ,super hosts. Bar was not open which was a shame but Reena did assist us to do our shopping as the hill is a bit steep. She also showed us an easier route that was not as steep as the hill down to the beach and the amemylos taverna which was a great location for dinner. Apartments were spacious and clean with great views. Breakfast was served at the pool on request with plenty on offer. Very quiet and relaxing not a resort if you want to party 😁

'The Hill Of Death' as we christened it.

    rating06 Sept 2025

Very quiet place with really good owners. Reasonably clean but needs updating. Some old broken fixtures in the bathroom. Well designed with three units , only 20 rooms in total, all with fabulous views. Unfortunately, the pool bar wasn't open during our visit, although both TUI and the properties website say it is. So, there are no daytime drinks or snacks. The walk down to the village is about 800 metres , whith another 1200 to the beach. The village is busy but non touristy with only a grill house, one taverna and a locals bar. Returning to the property is a killer. Up an extremely steep hill, which in 36 degrees is a real test. Don't book if you have mobility problems unless you get a car. It's a long way up with shopping, especially water. Shame this wasn't available at the property. Overall, we had a good week but probably wouldn't return because of the hill.
