    Deteriorated from last year.

    rating31 Oct 2025

Having been very impressed by this hotel and the quality of our stay last October 2024, I did something I rarely did, and rebooked to come back again this year in October for another half-term mini-break. The proximity to Rethymnon and the location in the resort of Platanes makes it an ideal retreat. My son especially asked to return. However, this year we weren’t as impressed. The vibe was different. I completely understand it’s the end of season - but the hotel had no atmosphere at all. It was half-closed: more so than last year. For example, we wanted to book a spa treatment and the spa was closed and we had to do it by appointment via reception (it was open last year this time). I gave it a miss. My son booked a treatment but told me the steam room wasn’t working - which I thought was not fair as the prices are extortionate. Breakfast was disappointing compared to last year. My son complained about the cooked breakfast saying the bacon was tough and chewy. He was also upset there were no beans or hash browns. Last year there was more variety and the lady at the buffet was a lot more polite offering to make my gluten- free son omelettes and being generally more accommodating whereas the one this year looked like she just wanted to go home. Even the fruit was the dregs-end by the time we came to breakfast and not replenished. It was all minimal for a 5-star hotel. It seemed they were cutting back. The hotel is aesthetically pleasing and the rooms are nice but they offer no view from the balcony and our room this year was so overlooked that I didn’t want to open the curtains- let alone go out on the balcony. There was no privacy whatsoever. Most of the staff were polite and professional, though I thought it odd that the evening receptionist complained at me about my parking too close to the front of the hotel the day before I left (?) I thought that was very random and sudden and couldn’t work out why they would bring up where I parked 4 days into my stay when I had parked in that exact spot since I arrived if it was such a problem. I think they were all getting ‘end of season-itus’.I can safely say that that will be our last visit to Atermono as we don’t plan to return again. It was nice but neither of us were thrilled this year.

    Delightful, classy hotel, nice location

    rating25 Oct 2025

We are just back from a week’s stay. The hotel is beautiful. It’s located on the beach. The decor is modern and stylish, especially the bar, pool and restaurant area which is at the top of the hotel with views over the beach. The rooms are very nice and spacious. Most have balconies. Toiletries and towels are provided. There is a lovely central courtyard where movies of your choice can be projected in the evening. The food is excellent. Breakfast is varied with all the usual options and more. During the day food can be ordered from the main or beach bars. Evening meals are served in a cozy restaurant next to the pool. The menu is small but delicious and the lady who runs the restaurant is delightful. The gentleman who runs the bar is also very welcoming.Beach towels are provided and there is no charge for sun loungers. If you want to eat out, there are lots of restaurants within walking distance and the surrounding area is buzzy. We were fortunate. We had booked another nearby hotel, owned by the same company. As it was nearing the end of the season we were upgraded to the Atermono. Couldn’t be happier with the service.

Looks like a 5* but acts like a 3.5/4*. Beautifully done but missing simple things

    rating12 Oct 2025

Atermono 5* boutique resort has all the right ingredients for a 5 star hotel, but falls short repeatedly in ways that left us disappointed during our stay. It looks like a 5* but acts like a 3.5/4*. On the surface the hotel looks spectacular and is beautifully finished. The breakfast is varied, and the pool/ external areas are stunning. However, we found the surroundings to be the only elements worthy of the 5* rating.Despite booking directly with the hotel we were given the incorrect room, having booked a deluxe room with an exterior view at a higher rate, we were given a superior room with an interior view. The room we were given was looking straight in to other rooms. When we raised this the reception seemed surprised and acknowledged the error when they checked the booking. We were then told they only had one deluxe room left and I was shown obviously the worst option which was smaller than all their other rooms and looking at the car park, not the same as on the website. Having had 3 hours sleep and an early flight we didn’t fight the matter, but also not offered a refund on the rate difference. The rooms are beautiful and well done. But the showers flood, badly, the whole way in to the room and almost in to the corridor. These were not long showers but it happened every time. We had to use the bath mat and hand towels to move the overspill back in to the shower. This became harder when for 2 days the bath mat was removed from the balcony drying rack and not replaced. On the second day we had to call reception and request a new bath mat, as well as replacement shower gel which hadn’t been renewed for 4 days. The showers also weren’t cleaned in our whole 5 night stay, nor was the sink/sink area. The bed was made, but the second blanket was taken off the bed and screwed up on the sofa. Other items missing from the room were coffee pods, despite a nespresso machine in the room (however without drip tray). The bath robes additionally are a suitable length for a child, but a grown adult would not be comfortable quickly grabbing one of these for some modesty. The spa said this had been mentioned to them beforeWe also booked the Atermono because of the spa facilities. On one of the days we had adverse weather conditions so we came in to use the advertised indoor pool, steam room and sauna. However when we went to look for the sauna and steam room we were informed by the spa they were bookable for an additional 15€ for a one time appointment - complimentary only if a treatment was booked. We checked the website and in room spa booking info and no where is an additional charge for a 1 time prebooked use of the facilities mentioned. What must be mentioned is how wonderful the gentleman at the upstairs bar is. He was always in great spirits and even made a unique cocktail one evening. We booked Atermono as a luxury for our honeymoon. We made note of this on our booking but no effort was made by the hotel to make this feel like a special moment. Individually none of these things are particularly notable, however when you find yourself saying “there’s always something” when treating yourself to a 5* hotel for a once in a lifetime occasion you can’t help but be disappointed. Having stayed in multiple other boutique hotels around Europe with lower ratings we expected better,

2 week stay during July/Aug. Chose the hotel on reviews and the small size. We have stayed in large all inclusives in Europe before and wanted something smaller. The hotel did not disappoint. Beautifully clean and really helpful staff who went above and beyond to help us and make our stay comfortable. We had 2 superior rooms ( tip.. the first room we were allocated was not a superior and we asked for this to be changed so check what you booked) We were offered another room and this was fine. The rooms are not massive but you don’t need it to be. However there is virtually no storage space. A wardrobe and 2 drawers. We had a balcony overlooking the road to the hotel , not really that private but didn’t matter. You can get rooms overlooking the central courtyard for more privacy, We never sat out on ours anyway. The pool was lovely. Never any issue getting a sunbed, none of the usual nonsense with people getting up at 7am to reserve. The pool bar was lovely but a bit pricey. We had lunch there quite a few times . The service is really slow, you can wait up to an hour for your food but just order then go back to your sunbed ! They will bring it to you on your sunbed if you want. The standard of food was really high, the pizzas are lovely. The beach is literally 2 mins walk and there was loads of space there. The hotel has its own sunbeds. The sea was really rough and we only could go in twice the whole time we were there ( 2 weeks) . The local lifeguards tell you to come out of it’s not safe. The hotel provided towels but only 1 per person per day so we took our own as well , nice to lie on a dry towel after getting wet. There was loads of choice for eating out . Finikas which is literally out of the hotel and 2 mins down the road was really excellent. The service was amazing . Would highly recommend. We would return to this lovely hotel perhaps for a week r and r .
