  A well overdue review

  We visited the Atlantica Kalliston for our honeymoon in June 2025, and could not have been happier with our choice. This was our 3rd stay in an Atlantica, and it was the nicest and most luxurious and modern of the resorts we have visited (the others were also great). My wife has allergies, and the head chef Yiannis was always at hand to reassure us and guide us through the menu every evening. He was very patient and kind, and always visible, which we really appreciated. The food that came out of the kitchen was fantastic. I come from a Greek Cypriot background, and the 'local food' themed night was a genuine highlight of the stay. You'd be lucky to get food that good from your own Yiayia's kitchen! Breakfast was a real treat every morning, with an excellent selection. Dinner was also great, and had enough variation throughout the week to keep it new and exciting. The main restaurant serves buffet food, but it was always fresh, and never seemed too busy. We also dined at two of the other restaurants at the hotel during our stay, and the food was excellent, as was the service. How beautiful to be able to dine by the beach in the comfort of your own hotel. The beachfront was one of my favourite parts of the hotel, on a beautiful stretch of sand, with sunbeds always available. There was also a coastguard out every day, and they took their duties very seriously. The pools were also great, and very well designed. There was plenty of space in the grounds in and around the hotel, so it felt very relaxed and open. The staff at the hotel were all fantastic. The guest experience Manager, Daria, really looked after us when we let her know it was our honeymoon. Our room had the most fantastic views, and we couldn't have asked for more. Antonia in the restaurant was also very cheery and helpful, as was Anastasia on the snack counter by the spa. Overall, a really beautiful hotel, run by genuine and welcoming people. Thank you all for making our honeymoon so special and memorable.

  Fantastic Hotel on the beach

  Fantastic hotel, very chilled atmosphere from the moment you step into the hotel.Lovey and helpful staff.Directly on the beach.Bus stop very close for trips to Chania.Decoration and rooms are exceptional.The food is excellent.   Keep forgetting to leave a review but just wanted to say thank you to all staff at Kalliston. My husband and I had the best honeymoon and love Chania. We were pleased we picked this hotel as we really enjoyed our stay and staff were really helpful, especially the guest services team.   We stayed for 1 week in September. In a swim up suite on an all inclusive basis. This cost over £6k which we felt was very expensive for what we got. There are some wonderful aspects of the hotel, but also some others really let it down. ProsStaff were generally very attentive and friendly. À la carte restaurants were beautiful, the food was delicious. Especially in the Japanese and the Italian. Areas of the hotel which have been renovated are well designed and stylish. The main bar is lovely, with a fantastic view, but service is slow. Great location, lovely beach nearby and easy access to Chania. Reception staff were helpful. The room was cleaned daily and there was a basic turndown service. Generous welcome gifts included a bottle of wine, fruit, raki, chocolate and other local snacks. The buffet restaurant has a good vegan/vegetarian selection. ConsWe witnessed a physical fight between a coach driver and the hotel porter. A man who seemed to be the hotel manager saw this and did nothing to intervene. We mentioned it to the lady at guest relations later in the day and she made a joke about it, no apology offered. Our room was clean and stylish, however was very dark. I had to do my make up in the bathroom to be able to see properly. There seems to be some confusion about who is supposed to clear empty glasses and food plates. Although the room was cleaned each day these were not cleared from our room quickly. We had to take them back to the cafe area to get rid of them. The areas of the hotel which have not been renovated feel dated and a bit sad. Unfortunately this is mainly the buffet restaurant and the spa. The buffet feels a bit like a canteen in my opinion. I had a lovely massage with Irina, who was wonderful. However the room felt like I was in a store cupboard and there was no music playing for atmosphere. Another couple decided they wanted to use the sun loungers outside of our room all week, so when we opened our curtains there was a middle aged couple staring in at us, not the hotel’s fault, but it was awkward. We spent most of our time outside of the hotel, eating in Chania and Rethymno a lot which was gorgeous. This shouldn’t have been the case given how much we spent and although we had a wonderful time, that was largely due to Crete rather than this hotel.   We had spent tremendous money to stay at a 5 star hotel on a half board basis and this has been the most disappointing stay so far. This hotel is a 4 star at most. Not worth the money and I would look elsewhere. I would also recommend in reading the reviews as some reviews really are true to their word. Pros:With the half board basis you can choose between lunch or dinner on the day which is good. The a la carte restaurants were superb except the Greek restaurant as the food was mainly covered in oil. Staff - Antonia she gets one of the stars in this review. She’s so lovely and had made our stay a little memorable as she was always smiling and was always greeting us. Nola from the Asian restaurant was also lovely.Swimming pool is good and lounge area. However, we came here in October and it was not that busy. We can only imagine what the busy period is like. Really close proximity to a sandy beach which was nice. Lunch was big portions and delicious also. Nice view from the pool.Shops are within close proximity Bus stop is just outside with 2€ fare to go into Chania ans €2 return. Cons: Check in - We checked in late enough on a Monday and one of the customers that had already been staying at the hotel had asked Olympia loudly if their hot water was working?? which wasn’t very nice to hear upon arriving. After that the woman at the desk had quickly checked us in with minimal explanation to the hotel or the half board basis and then another woman only provided a tour of the room and that was it, even though during the week we seen so many guests getting tours around the hotel. Room - We booked and paid extra for a sea view bedroom and this was disappointing. See photos of dark underwhelming outdated room, small bathroom, scratches on walls and the view from the room barely seeing the sea with a tree fronting the balcony. This room felt like a 3 star. They had left a bottle of wine and fruits on the table as a nice gesture but this did not take away our disappointment. I had emailed the hotel in advance asking for a quiet room an Daria emailed back saying she will ensure this is the case, however, the room is not sound proof at all as you can hear people moving upstairs and the room beside us. The room was on level 3 the same floor as the entertainment in which we could hear it from the room.Food/restuarants: Breakfast - at first we thought it was nice with everything in it - juices and coffees you can order as much, which is nice, however, as the week went along the hot food ALWAYS remained the same and luke warm - boiled eggs, quiche, omlette, french toast, beans, porridge, mush rooms, tomatoes, sausages, hot dogs, bacon, poached eggs and friends eggs and that really was it. No changes in the hot food at all and the mushroom and tomatoe and the omelettes were ALWAYS covered in OIL. The food had become boring.Dinner in deep blue: Again similar experience to the breakfast there were good variety a few times but as the week went on, they merely had chicken, pork and beef and barely had any sea food when this island is surrounded by the sea. The seafoods left were pasta octopus and some white fish but the white fish were all crumbled. There was also a lack of hot side dishes. One of the nights I had also found a small styrofoam on my food. It’s €40 per person for this buffet and it’s not worth it. Best to go into Chania town for half the price and decent food. Managing: There was this manager who wore all dark gray during breakfast and dinner who was micro managing the staff and we could tell he was only prioritising some customers but not all. He did not wear a name tag. We could also tell when he was not on shift, that time it was Giorgos, the atmosphere and the staff was more relaxed and a lot more smiling. Giorgos seemed like a manager who trusted the staff and it really shows. Overall I would not recommend this hotel for a 5 star experience and would go else where.
