  We visited in the second open week of the season and so maybe that’s why we had a different experience to most but the hotel location is BEAUTIFUL, absolutely breathtaking. I’ve been a frequent visitor to Crete for years and this hotel is amazing. Clean, modern, friendly and informative staff, selection of pools, restaurants, something for everyone!Unfortunately we stayed during the earthquake which did dampen the spirits for the rest of our holiday however we did enjoy the time we had aside from that. Train upto the rooms is NEEDED especially when you’re high up. The staff are also kind enough to drive you up in a golf buggy after the train finishes too.Water park is brilliant! Again, the most breathtaking views.Only downfalls to this hotel - the entertainment was terrible, especially for kids (but as I said it was the beginning of the season so it may have improved!) nothing to do outside of the hotel’s resort, you are literally in the middle of nowhere. We visited fodele village one day when it was overcast and it was a bizarre experience, like a deserted, ancient town in a horror movie. Really a shame that there is nowhere local to walk to of an evening as, although the hotel complex is big, it does feel a little claustrophobic for the week when you can’t really go anywhere. Pools were absolutely freezing to the point it hurt and our 2 year old turned was blue on the lips. No proper doors on the pool toilets/changing areas. Female toilets near the day time restaurant are ceiling to floor doors and the locks are temperamental.. I was locked in one which was terrifying and no one came to help nor could hear me! Most upsetting experience until the lock finally decided to work again. Complained to reception but the woman didn’t care.Lifts are very ropey so wouldn’t recommend if you have a fear, like me. Kids amphitheater stunk of sewage and the entertainment was very outdated and low budget, considering the price you pay for the holiday.We took a day trip by coach to Heraklion and that was way more up my street!   Our stay at Fodele was amazing! You can stay in the hotel and have a wonderful time. A huge selection of delicious food, stunning views, very friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful entertainment every evening! P.S. Yoga or stretching on the beach overlooking the sea is amazing. We were there on the last night of the season and there was still no shortage of excellent food, drink choices and quality entertainment.   Don't believe the complainers!

  Stayed here for a week, and had a lovely holiday. The staff are the best I have ever experienced in any hotel and country, they were very friendly and very helpful. The hotel is located off the main road between Heraklion and Chania, about 30 minutes from Heraklion (Airport). Your bus transfer might take about an hour depending on other drop offs. The hotel is a resort type which includes the hotel, waterpark and beach which has its own private beach club included with all inclusive. The food has a wide selection and is of a very high quality. You also have the option of eating in the Italian and Greek a la carte. restaurants once each if you want something a bit more formal and special. The location of the hotel will suit any family or couple wanting to just stay on site, but there is a bus leaves for Heraklion main bus station each morning at 9.30 and returns at 2.00pm. The bus coming back is a bit chaotic, you need to buy tickets in the bus station and then wait to find out which platform it is leaving from, but it Heraklion is worth visiting especially the Archaeological Museum.The weather for our stay in the 3rd week of October was perfect 25/26C and sunny for most of day. There is one small heated pool which can be very busy, a small quieter pool, and one main freshwater pool which was just about warm enough at this time of the year. The rooms are of a very high standard with newly refurbished bathrooms, and a small balcony or terrace (standard room).The only draw back maybe for some guests that it is on a split level site, there are a lot of small steps around the complex, so it might not suit anyone with mobility issues. A free courtesy hotel tourist type train brings guests to the other rooms at the top of the complex and water park.Very popular with families and couples from UK Germany and Netherlands, and the entire week there was a lovely atmosphere amongst all the guests (No drunk people fro being all inclusive). The animation team were very good and there are daytime activities and nighttime entertainment.If you want to see a bit more of Crete you would need to either rent a car or book some of the excursions.   Great hotel and loved our stay. A few improvements could be made but our stay was lovely.

  On the whole, the hotel was really clean, picturesque and well managed however there were a couple of points we felt that could be improved. The hotel is presented beautifully and opens up onto a lovely cove which is great for swimming in the sea and relaxing. It also has a bar for snacks and drinks whilst you relax on the beach. The pools are big but at this time of year very cold, almost a bit too cold. The heated pool probably needs a member of staff/lifeguard on it due to many children jumping in etc completely unsupervised (which isn’t the hotels fault) but the heated pool was the only pool my young children wanted to play in as the others were too cold for them. The bar staff were fantastic and the drinks selection was brilliant, same for the food in the restaurants throughout the day and into the evening. Maybe some more staff could be added to the evening bars as at times the queues were quite large. The rooms were clean and well maintained daily. However the double bed was incredibly hard and very uncomfortable. The single beds were much more comfortable. I would also say the pictures on the website are slightly misleading, the water slides aren’t suitable for younger children, my 3 and a half year old couldn’t really go on any as they were too big/fast. Great fun for me though when I went on them. The train service to and from the water park is also good fun for the kids. The games room/arcade is great fun albeit a tad expensive. The hotel staff were great and any requirements we asked for they were addressed with maximum efficiency. All in all though this is a lovely hotel and I would definitely recommend.
