    A real Greek vacation

    rating22 Apr 2026

I spent one week at KriKri with my family last year and it was one of the most memorable and relaxing vacations I have had in a while! The atmosphere is relaxing, the rooms clean and very spacious, and the area even though it doesn’t have many things to do, offered such a calming and comfortable place to spend our vacation. And the people, such warm hospitality from Jenny and her family, and of course I can not forget the dogs, Molly and Sarah that welcomed us and send us on our way everyday with pets and hugs. We will definitely be back!

Great small and friendly family-run hotel/self-catering apartments

    rating30 Aug 2024

This small and friendly family-run hotel/self-catering apartments is a great find. Jenny, the owner is very organised, warm, friendly and always on hand to answer any questions. She runs the accommodation with help from a few of her family. Our late afternoon flight was delayed by several hours prior to departure (and en route) due to stormy weather, therefore although we had been due to reach our accommodation at 10.30, we actually arrived around 2.00 the following morning. As the hotel is very small, it does not operate a 24-hour reception. Therefore, A note was left on the reception door to let us know our room number and arrangements for the key which was all as per the note. The breakfast is good for a hotel of this size consisting of bread, cereal, one type of cheese and ham and either cake or small croissants, plus coffee, tea and juice. It is served from 8.30 – 10.30 so a good timeframe to allow a nice lie-in. The small complex is as per the photos with nicely furnished outside areas around the reception/pool where you can eat breakfast. There is a snack menu serving drinks, salads, sandwiches, pizza, etc. throughout the day. It is a very short walk from several small beaches where you will find around 5/6 cafes/restaurants overall at intervals opposite the beach areas. The small beach areas are very natural and separated by rocky outcrops with some having sun loungers/umbrellas owned by the restaurants and others where you could take a beach mat or your own chairs, etc. space allowing. Around 15 minutes’ walk up to the main road you will find a traditional Greek restaurant (live Greek music on some nights), a very small supermarket and a bakery also selling ice cream and where you can either eat in or buy food/drink to take away. On this road, you will also find the bus stop which has buses to Heraklion (every 20 – 30 minutes) and Malia in the opposite direction. This accommodation and area has everything you need for a week’s holiday in a resort that feels "very Greek" compared to some other areas of the Island.

a little oasis right next to the beach run by a warmhearted owner

    rating27 Mar 2023

The hotel is a little oasis right next to the beach and very close to restaurants and bars in a small quiet village. It is a very good place to relax and slow down and a good starting point for many activities (hiking, quad tour, boat tour, city tour, ...).The city of Heraklion can be reached by public bus every 20 minutes (for about €1.50). The bus stop is about 400m from the hotel. The service was first class and universal and we grew very fond of the warmhearted owner. So we decided to come right back after only a few months.

    Very nice place to stay.

My goal in visiting Gournes was to volunteer at the Gouves dog and cat shelter for a week. I had asked if they could recommend local accommodation and they suggested the KriKri Apartments. The recommendation turned out to be an excellent one. My initial contact was through Jenny, who responded promptly to my email and offered a good rate for the week. I was a little anxious about arriving so late at night (Easyjet) but when I got to the apartments George was there, welcoming and hospitable showed me my room and then, at my request for some food, rustled up a beautiful salad with bread and a beer, not too shabby for an 11pm guest! The room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable and I felt very relaxed there for the week. Jenny provided a custom breakfast on most of the days I stayed there and also made the best pot of tea that I have ever drunk in Greece! You Brits KNOW how we like our tea! On my first morning Jenny also arranged bicycle hire for me at a very good rate and the bike was delivered withing 30 minutes! The sea is a one minute walk from the apartments and there are lovely little beaches a short walk away that are safe to paddle in and swim. There are also many small restaurants and cafes within walking distance. An additional pleasure for me were the dogs, German Shepherds, Mama Sara and sons Kobi and Jack, sweet dogs, well-controlled by the owners with the option to pet and play with the dogs if you are comfortable. A tiny drawback was that the wifi did not extend to the inside of the apartments but it was accessible outside of the rooms, sitting on the porch, and also inside the lobby area. Jenny says that she is working on getting a wifi booster and expects that to happen soon. I definitely recommend KriKri as a place to stay and I will return there myself. Jenny and George and their son Canstantino were warm and charming hosts.
