High-end resort with a friendly feel
03 May 2026
This is our 3rd visit to a Mitsis hotel and we have been delighted with our stay. The resort of beautiful, like a little Greek village, dotted with bars, restaurants and shops. It’s very well landscaped making it a very picturesque place. The rooms are spacious and clean. There is a mini bar offering beers, wine, water and soft drinks which is topped up daily. The mini bar guy has often given us a couple of extra beers too, and it’s all included in the price. Connectivity across the resort is faultless - a small but important point. In terms of food, there really is something for everyone and every occasion. The buffet is plentiful and of a high standard. Mimosas are served on Sunday mornings which is a nice touch. Best of all we have enjoyed the à la carte restaurants. The Mediterranean (‘Candia’) in particular is exquisite and on a par with a high end restaurant in London. We loved the live music on the night we were there and the view over the water - perfection! Brunch, Italian and Pan Asian have all been very enjoyable too, and tomorrow we’re trying the South American. Visits to all these restaurants are included in your stay and it’s worth booking ahead on the app to get your preferred slots. The beach restaurant offers freshly-cooked chicken souvlaki throughout the day which is easy and delicious during a day by the pool. The outdoor bars offer a high quality cocktail menu and you can ask for anything else you might fancy. I have very much enjoyed the espresso martinis after dinner. The entertainment has been of an excellent standard - dancers, gymnasts, a Greek night. Honestly, I’d have paid money for a ticket to see some of these acts. I cannot share this review without mention of the staff who make all this happen. So smiley and friendly, taking real pride in their job. Maybe it’s the Greek way or maybe Mitsis is just a fantastic place to be - I suspect it’s both. We wanted to especially highlight our appreciation of Maria (pool bar), Irene, ‘Captain’, Elvis (restaurants), George (F&B Manager), the GM who was keen to hear our feedback at Managers’ Cocktails and Iona (photographer). We have two nights left of our stay and planning to enjoy every moment before we head home. Ps, the resort is home to some gorgeous cats. They are well looked after and well fed - I think that demonstrates the care shown to each and everyone staying here. Thank you Royal Mare!!

Bit of a let down!
02 May 2026
Really nice looking hotel, fabulous gardens and architecture.Staff work so hard and always with a smile.Maria at the Kalypso bar is a star, an asset to the company and has a very good attitude! The downsides, they should drop the strap line of Premium all inclusive as very few of the drinks served could be classed as premium,You shouldn’t go hungry but the food is a bit of a let down, no prawns, smoked salmon or quality ham served at the buffet.Overall disappointing and very doubtful that we would return.

Dear Peter C,Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the architecture, gardens, and especially the dedication of our team. Your kind words about Maria at the Kalypso Bar are truly appreciated and will be gladly shared with her.At the same time, we are sorry to read that certain aspects did not meet your expectations. Regarding our culinary offering, our buffet is designed to provide a wide variety of fresh, high-quality dishes with different daily themes, focusing on balance, seasonality, and catering to a broad range of international tastes. For this reason, some premium items, such as seafood specialties or specific cold cuts, are featured on selected days or within our à la carte restaurants, where we can ensure both quality and proper presentation. We also appreciate your comments regarding the beverage selection and will take them into consideration as we continuously evaluate and improve our offerings.Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We hope you might reconsider and give us another opportunity to provide you with a more satisfying experience in the future.Warm regards,Guest Relations Team

Disappointing stay
01 May 2026
I stayed at Mitsis Royal Mare this week and unfortunately the experience didn’t live up to the 5* expectations.Firstly we didn’t get given wrist bands. I noticed everyone else had them during our second night, therefore I asked at reception and they gave us them. There was no welcome drinks, which you would expect at a 5*. We asked to change the a la carte nights round at reception, due to the poor weather. The receptionist laughed at us and asked why we needed to change, before telling us we couldn’t (she didn’t really make an effort to try move the days round). The weather during our stay was poor, which obviously isn’t the hotel’s fault, but it did highlight some safety concerns. The tiled pathways around the hotel became extremely slippery in the rain and felt quite dangerous. The hotel is up hill, which made walking up to the main restaurant in the rain very dangerous. Our room doors (balcony and front door) were also leaking water into the room from underneath. Our room however was one of the better aspects: spacious, comfortable bed, great shower, and a large balcony. However, it did feel slightly awkward as the balcony overlooked other guests’ private pools. We had a side sea view. The lack of a smart TV was also noticeable, especially as we spent several days indoors due to the weather. You would expect a better TV in a 5* hotel. The indoor pool was particularly disappointing. It looked dirty and very dated, with green buildup along the sides and slimy-feeling walls, not somewhere you’d want to swim. We stayed in there for about 30 mins on a rainy day as there was nothing else to do in the hotel. Both main outdoor pools were nice, “Sun bed wars” seemed to be occurring at the bottom pool, but plenty of room at the top pool and we actually preferred this pool. Sunbeds we found many were very uncomfortable, with a metal bar across the seating area that you could feel through the fabric. The ones by the upper pool seemed newer and more comfortable. Food labelling was a real concern as a vegetarian, there was clear cross-contamination, I witnessed the mushrooms cooked on the same grill as fish in the buffet!! Dishes were often incorrectly labelled (see photo). Vegetarian options sometimes contained meat or seafood, which is unacceptable, especially for those with allergies. This really put me off. Due to my dietary requirements, I asked for a Feta Soulvaki, without the feta, basically asking for just a vegetable Soulvaki at the beach restaurant. The chef started laughing and mocking the order with one of the waitresses. Please see the photo of what I was served. I felt so annoyed at this point I just left it, I didn’t have the energy to argue. They didn’t even put chips with it. There’s a real lack of vegetarian options at the A la carte restaurants. The indoor bar felt very dated and quite dark, almost cave-like, and evening drink service was slow due to understaffing. The pool bar advertised being open until midnight, but we found it closed at around 6pm. There was also no beach bar open after 6pm which was disappointing as it would have been nice to enjoy the sunset there, feels like the hotel is really missing a trick with this. Basically the only place to sit was the main bar, if you were lucky to get a seat. The amount of cats were a real issue for us. While some may find them charming, they were frequently inside restaurants, with little effort made to remove them, and guests were feeding them at tables. There was even cat poo near sunbeds by the main pool, which is particularly concerning from a hygiene and health perspective (especially as I am currently pregnant)! There were some positives; when the sun does come out, the resort is visually appealing and has a village-like feel, and the on-site shops are convenient. They do take you to and from your room when you have your luggage. You cannot fault the waitresses and waiters, they work around the clock, always smiling and happy to help. I just can’t help but compare it to a 4* we went to in Rhodes last year which was so much better than this hotel. I wouldn’t return based on this experience.

Dear Mrs. ROBERTS,Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are truly sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. At the same time, we would like to clarify that during your visit we experienced exceptionally unusual weather conditions, with continuous rainfall lasting nearly 48 hours. This was indeed beyond the norm for the season. Our team made every possible effort to ensure guest comfort and safety, and we appreciate that many guests recognized and valued these efforts.Regarding dining, we would like to note that we follow a strict policy for guests with special dietary requirements. Our Executive Chef and culinary team are always available to personally consult with guests in order to ensure suitable options are provided, while also preventing any risk of cross-contamination. When necessary, meals can be prepared separately to meet specific needs.Concerning the operation of our outdoor bars, their schedule may be adjusted due to weather conditions, particularly in colder or rainy periods, when it is not feasible to operate them as usual. During periods of stable weather conditions, all outlets operate according to the full schedule. We are pleased to read that you appreciated aspects such as your room and the friendliness of our staff, and we will certainly share your kind words with the team.Your feedback is valuable to us, and we will take your comments into careful consideration as we continuously strive to improve our services.Warm regards,Guest Relations Team
