We were very well looked after

    rating12 May 2026

My wife stayed at this wonderful hotel with her sister last year (as part of a tour group). She was certain I would love it so we came together this year. The room was very comfortable, very well-maintained and cleaned, excellent breakfasts and with the sea view option we had some stunning sunsets as well a fabulous aspect for the old harbour. It is superbly-situated to explore the fascinating backstreets and myriad marvellous restaurants. The beach at Nea Chora is a 20-minute walk away and further beaches, such as Chryssi Akti, about 50 minutes by foot. It also made a great base for exploring Chania’s museums and going further afield to the Botanical Gardens, Knossos and a tour of food and drink production. All of the staff were tremendously welcoming, of good humour and extremely helpful. Highly recommended. Tru;y excellent

We have been visiting Chania since 1964, which was before this hotel was built. We have stayed in about 17 different places in the city but for the last 20 and more years we have settled very happily in the Porto Veneziano on our Cretan visits. Its location is superb - no hotel would be built there these days but in 1964 the site was simply a war-damaged area, not a Venetian building. The rooms are not vast but they are very well furnished with good bathrooms. The standard of housekeeping remains high, and we were especially pleased to find how very good the current crop of cooks is. The cooked breakfasts were very well produced: the waiter listens to your request and if you want an egg that has spent 3 minutes in boiling water, that is what you get. We ate in the hotel restaurant three times in the evenings and the food was truly excellent. If we have the good fortune to be able to go to Chania again we shall certainly stay in this glorious hotel with its superb staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. Yannis Platsidakis, General Manager at Porto Veneziano Hotel, responded to this review Dear Valued Guest,Thank you for your continued trust and loyalty over so many years. It is truly an honor to know that Porto Veneziano has become your home in Chania during your visits to Crete.Your kind words about our team, housekeeping and culinary experience are deeply appreciated and will be shared with everyone. Elegant and beautiful hotel. Do book the sea view suite if possible.

    rating18 Apr 2026

My husband and myself had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel for 8 nights during our recent holiday together in their superior sea view suite. We were allocated Room 110 which at first I was slight disappointed as I felt being on the first floor and too close to the marina would be noisy. But nothing prepared us for how breathtaking it was when we finally checked in.Our suite had 3 balconies and a window as well as a partition in the room separating the bedroom from the sitting space and creating an insulation against any sound. On hindsight I feel Room 110 was the best room in the whole hotel as our room got ample sunlight and great views of the old port. We have hardly done any day trips during our trip as we did not feel like leaving our room for extended periods of time as it was just too cozy. The hotel is on the quieter edge of the old port which was a welcome respite for us as the hordes of people around the marina sometimes felt too chaotic and like a mad house. But at the same time the location of the hotel is perfect if you want to join the activities at the port. The KTEL bus station was around a cool 20-25 minutes stroll from the hotel and same for Nea chora beach which was on the other end.The staff at the hotel was professional, courteous and polite and greeted us warmly every time. We also felt nice when the hotel manager greeted us in the mornings and the Reservations Manager also shook our hand. We were also offered a complimentary meal on behalf of the hotel which was a touching gesture. We opted to have the dinner and couldn't be happier. My husband absolutely loved the saganaki made by the hotel (he cannot stop praising it) along with the spinach risotto. The tiramisu dessert too was absolutely mouth watering. A special thanks to the server as well for helping us with meal recommendations. Our absolute favorite hands down was the freshly squeezed lemon juice made by the hotel. Enough praises have been lavished by the previous guests about the breakfast the hotel provides and we too concur that it was the best breakfast we've ever had. Especially the orange juice in the morning. At this point we would like to extend our special thanks to the woman who was always there in the morning to take our breakfast order. She was professional and always remembered our room number and that we would prefer extra coffee at times. Her kindness was extremely touching. I'm sorry I don't know any of the staff names personally. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants at every side. We managed to frequent amongst other places Pita goal (on the road towards Halepa) , Mafioza (behind the hotel), Michalis Taverna on the port as well as Fresh point Juice bar which served delicious watermelon juices and snacks. We are touched by the kindness and hospitality of the local people as at most places we were offered a free dessert or raki which has never happened on any of our trips before. We would like to come back to Chania as well as Crete and especially to Porto Veneziano hotel.
