A Nightmare Unveiled: Deception and Disarray at the disgusting Daisy Apartment Hotel
03 Sept 2023
Our stay at the Daisy Apartment Hotel in Rethymno can only be described as a horrifying ordeal that no guest should ever have to endure. Prepare yourself for a nightmarish journey through incompetence, deception, and a total disregard for guest well-being.We arrived at the hotel around 5:00 PM, and from the very beginning, it was evident that our experience would be nothing short of a disaster. To start, we were intentionally assigned a smoking room, a detail conveniently omitted during booking. The receptionist, Stavroula, had the audacity to demand full payment upfront, even before we had a chance to see our room. It struck me as highly unusual, given my extensive experience in the hotel industry, where payment is typically processed as either pre-payment or after check-out.As we entered the room, the puzzle pieces fell into place. The room was a repulsive, nightmarish spectacle of filth. Strands of hair, varying in length and color, adorned every possible surface - the bed, bedsheets, pillows, towels, and the very floor we had to tread upon. An appalling 3 out of 4 towels were visibly soiled, bearing disgusting stains, including bloodstains. The room reeked of cigarette smoke, but not just any smoke – it was the unmistakable stench of old, cold, and stale cigarette smoke, as if generations of chain-smokers had made this room their haven. We promptly went to the reception to complain about the abhorrent cleanliness and the overwhelming smell. Stavroula assured us that she would contact the manager and promptly left us hanging in the room for an excruciating 45 minutes without a single update or phone call, despite the presence of a phone in the room.Frustrated and desperate for answers, we headed back to the reception to inquire about the status. It was then that we were told the cleaning lady was "on the way."An entire hour passed before the cleaning lady reluctantly arrived around 6:00 PM. Throughout her reluctant efforts to clean the room, she muttered explicit swear words and other curses, as overheard by my partner.Despite the cleaning attempt, the room still reeked of cigarette smoke. The only remedy offered was a feeble attempt involving toilet spray, which did nothing to alleviate the suffocating odor. To add insult to injury, we discovered more stray hairs on the floor.Fed up with the appalling conditions, we returned to the reception once again to voice our dissatisfaction. Shockingly, the receptionist flat-out refused to change our room, citing that all rooms in our category were occupied. In a display of sheer audacity, they proposed an "upgrade" to a "higher category room" for an exorbitant additional cost of 100€. This was utterly unreasonable for a single night, especially considering that the other room would not have been sold for the night anyways. Our sole desire was a decent night's sleep in a clean, smoke-free environment, but the receptionist made it clear that they had no intention of offering such basic comfort without squeezing every last euro from our pockets. When I requested a refund due to my non-smoking partner's severe discomfort, they denied it, citing their so-called "policy." Demanding to speak to the manager, Noula, was met with reluctance, but the receptionist finally made the call. After speaking with Noula, the manager, my partner and I were essentially accused of lying. Both the receptionist and the cleaning lady, both of whom admittedly were smokers, shamelessly lied to our faces and denied any smoke smell in the room.Once again, all we were offered was a paltry 50% refund or the opportunity to pay extra for the "higher category" room. The manager's explanation regarding ashtrays was laughable. Our room, #127, arguably the worst in the hotel, lacked a balcony, rendering the ashtrays' intended purpose impossible. When pressed, Noula offered the excuse that there are "other uses" for ashtrays in Greece – an explanation that defies logic and common sense. Despite their efforts to mask the smoke smell, the room remained unbearable, complete with a hairy-black-moldy shower and crusty curtains. (Pictures attached)As if the situation couldn't get any worse, we stumbled upon crusty, dirty underwear hanging in the hallways. The attached pictures tell the gruesome tale.Neither Booking.com nor the hotel's official website mentioned that this was a smoking hotel. When I questioned the receptionist about their smoking policy, her baffling response of "smoking is normally not allowed" only added to the confusion. Smoking policies are straightforward – it's either allowed or not in hotels. What does "normally not allowed" even mean?Nowhere within the room did we find any indication that it was designated as a non-smoking room. On the contrary, the ashtray on the table suggested that smoking would be welcome in the room.To further add insult to injury, my partner's complaint was met with astonishing audacity, as the receptionist blatantly asked if we didn't want a smoking room. The foul stench of smoke permeated every inch of the room, leaving no doubt that we had been intentionally assigned a smoking room, even after repeated complaints. We are genuinely concerned about our health after staying in this hotel. I have never in my life been treated with such disrespect, disdain and dishonesty in a hotel, let alone being accused of lying when it was clear that the staff had maliciously placed us in their worst room for the night. To make matters even more unbearable, upon returning from dinner, the room had somehow managed to reek even worse than before, as the window had been closed during our absence.Astonishingly, the "higher category room" remained unsold for the night, proving that the receptionist, manager, and owner would rather leave a room vacant than allow us a peaceful night's rest. Our clothes, suitcases, and personal belongings now bear the unmistakable stench of smoke for at least the remainder of our holidays, perhaps even longer.Following an agonizingly short and uncomfortable night, my partner awoke with rashes covering her body. It's evident that this goes beyond a mere inconvenience; it's a case of physical harm resulting from blatant negligence. We are determined to pursue legal action against such a grievous lapse in responsibility.Amidst the entire harrowing ordeal, it's important to highlight that neither the receptionist, Stavroula, nor the manager, Noula, ever extended a single apology for the deplorable conditions and the distress we endured. Their complete absence of empathy and accountability only compounded the horrors of our stay at the Daisy Apartment Hotel in Rethymno.During checkout, we were shocked to discover, through the genuinely friendly and understanding receptionist Konstantina, that the individuals we had dealt with the night before, who had presented themselves as the manager and receptionist, had provided us with false names! Astonishingly, Konstantina, who exuded warmth and kindness, had never heard of a manager named Noula or a receptionist named Stavroula. As it turns out, the true identity of the unhelpful receptionist was Xrista (long, light red hair)! This revelation only adds to the layer of deception and malicious intent that tainted our entire experience at this hotel. I can only wish, that we had met Konstantina sooner as I’m sure, she would have handled this situation differently. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly and emphatically urge anyone reading this review to avoid the Daisy Apartment Hotel in Rethymno at all costs. Under no circumstances should you subject yourself to such deplorable conditions, callous staff, and an utter disregard for guest comfort and well-being. This disgusting hotel is a disgrace and should be avoided like the plague.

Rip off at Daisy hotel apartments rethymno Crete
25 Jun 2022
Very dishonest operators, booked and paid for in full online with bookings dot com with wi-fi swimming pool and air-conditioning, got to the hotel and was told the air-conditioning is 9 euro extra per day that was not in my budget and if i had been told before i would have booked another hotel. The temperature average is from 29c to 35c the room was like being in a sauna, i asked the owner for a fan his reply was we don't have any fans, i find this very dishonest business practices and not the correct way to treat a customer. They also have a safe box in the room that was 12 euro for 7 days for the key which i paid in cash and they refused to give me a receipt. I feel they ripping the public off and they must be exposed and the tax authorities and the tourism ministry must be alerted about their bad behaviour
