    The perfect location and these family run apartments just added to the charm.The owners made us very welcome , treated us like family, very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was fresh and plentiful. The most delicious cakes plus perfect fried eggs. And home farmed honey!The rooms are exceptionally clean for an older building, the sheets pillows and towels are spotless, and there is plentiful hot water for showers.I went with my son and Grandchildren who live in China, I wanted to show them the Greece I remembered from the 70's, this place had it all, location , food, and wonderful hosts. I would recommend Sunrise hotel and apartments 100%. Even with beautiful beaches within walking distance The pool just adds to the experience. Thank you for looking after us so well!I hope to return.A real 5 star experience.

    We absolutely loved our stay here! The quiet ambiance is perfect at breakfast outside by the pool. Breakfast was always delicious, and the selection of breads and cakes is too numerous to count and all delicious. Manolia was a gracious host and great cook. One evening, we returned late and our host, I can't recall his name, he gave us fresh grapes from his vines and fresh Honey from his private hives (photo included) Our room was perfect with a sea view from our balcony. Korakas Beach is just a short walk and is a beautiful pebble beach, not sandy. A small market is nearby as well as a few Tavernas. I highly recommend Nikos & Anna's Taverna for dinner, I had the very best seafood I've ever eaten, EVER! We will most definitely return to the Sunrise Hotel and Apartments. If you enjoy a quiet and relaxing vacation instead of the tourist crowds, this this your place!

    Fantastic little hotel in a beautiful remote area of South Crete

    Spent a fantastic 6 nights at Sunrise Apartments in Crete this June. Booked this holiday quite last minute with my partner for a bargain price so wasn't entirely sure what to expect, especially after reading some of these other negative reviews but we have a fab time!We arrived at the hotel very late (2-3am ish??) but were still met by someone in the reception to answer any questions we had and show us to our room. In the morning, we paid the tourist tax (only 3 euros!) and also paid for AC. The staff were very lovely and made us feel very welcome. We paid extra for the breakfast each morning which was lovely with a wide variety of hot food, yogurt, cakes, breads and jams etc and fresh orange juice. Its clearly a family run hotel but that made the experience even more genuine and comfortable having the family eating as well. The pool was nice and big with very few other guests in it most days - we often were the only ones by the pool and in the pool. Our room was also perfectly suitable, maybe slightly dated but very traditional greek looking, clean and had enough space for all our clothes and extras bits. Our balcony had a beautiful view as well, of both the sea and the mountains. The entire hotel was covered in different plants and flowers and overall was very aesthetic looking. The only faults which make us rate this hotel 4 instead of 5 stars was the lack of pool cleaning. Most days, there were lots of dead bugs in the pool which we fished out ourselves as best we could. The pool is surrounded by lots of greenery so it does make sense why there was so many bugs floating about but maybe just needed more attentive netting and cleaning of the pool tiles. Overall, this hotel is fantastic and we would definitely go again. There are some lovely little taverns near by and a pretty beach. There is also a supermarket within walking distance but would HIGHLY recommend also driving because there are so many things to see and do outside of walking distance. Our favourite recommendations for places to visit not too far would be Kalypso beach, Kourtaliotiko gorge and a day out in Plakias. + there were some rams, sheep and goats which would visit the surrounding area of the hotel - very cute!

    The hotel is clean, quiet, quite small, has a nice small pool & is within 2 minutes walk of the beach. The menu was quite restricted & expensive. There are only maybe 2 shops in the vicinity, although there are some nice places to eat. The nearest ATM is in Plakias, ~10km away. If you want to stay here you will definitely need your own transport due to its distance from towns, no local bus, the state of some of the roads, the hilliness & the cost of taxis - the 20 minute drive from Plakias to the hotel costs 25 EUR - for 10km! The aircon was extra & costs 7 EUR/ day.

    Ok. Let's start from the beginning.1. The hotel together with one booking website ripped us off for breakfasts. Room only on our dates cost 135 GBP, with breakfast 192 GBP. I chose the option with breakfasts (I wouldn't book the hotel without), paid 194 GBP (currency difference), and received confirmation with room only!I spoke with Destinia and they refused to give me what I paid for but that's another story...Obviously, prices were set by the hotel owner who knew about what prices he set. Ok, even if it was mispriced (but I don't think so) I asked to give my money back so I can book another hotel. No - they said. They refused to give us breakfasts. Thieves!2. Arrogant owners and you feel there like they constantly watch you, somebody sits there all the time and looks into our balcony. Completely no privacy! And "don't do this, don't do that"...4. Loud and noise from the kitchen behind the wall and in the corridor from 6 am...3. Stinking bathroom. All the time. Keep the fan going if you don't want that smell in your room. No curtain at the shower so the bathroom is all wet after a shower. Broken toilet - water constantly flushing - you have to open the lid to fix it. Disgusting.4. The best part now. On the last night, I spotted a rat on our balcony - it went to the hole and the corner, probably leading somewhere to the kitchen, cause it was behind the wall. The next morning it was lying dead on our balcony. Asked the owner to remove it - "oh" - she said - that's it. No sorry, nothing... So happy that we didn't eat these breakfasts there...5. A little frog in the room on the first day. Cute though but still...Fortunately, we stayed there only 4 nights out of 14. Guys, honestly, don't book it if you don't want your holiday to be ruined. The worst place we have ever been to.
